Trend, Faith Charlotte. "Church design in Counter Reformation Venice." Thesis, University of Birmingham, 2018. http://etheses.bham.ac.uk//id/eprint/8329/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores how Venice's church architecture was shaped by the Counter Reformation between 1550-1700. It provides a snapshot of the situation with four pertinent case studies representing the broad spectrum of Venice's churches. Chapter One focuses on San Nicolo di Ldo, a church that was part of the proactive Cassinese Congregation. The church was rebuilt entirely and represents an almost ideal response to the Counter Reformation. Chapter Two looks at the rebuilt parish church of San Moise and it tackles the compromises that inevitably came with many competing factors. Chapters Three

Abstract:
The History of Architecture has been all about religious buildings. With distribution of sources of power and wealth, new paradigms have emerged. Architecture today is about villas, skyscrapers, stadiums, etc. as well as churches. The financial support of the church is not in the same way as in middle ages; neither the way in which they are used. The question of this thesis project is this transformation of an architectural tradition and how it should be adjusted to our time’s conditions.

Abstract:
The public school system in America has slowly phased music education out of most students curriculum. Cutting these programs help schools manage their fiscal budget and also keep students in the classroom longer in hopes that the extra time will produce better test scores. In recent years studies have shown that cutting music programs might not be in the best interest of students, or schools working for better test scores. One such study published in Social Science Quarterly, suggests that “students who participate in music are positively associated with academic achievement, especially durin

While I have been at the University of Arizona, the three areas of study I have been most involved in are Architecture, Communication, and Religion. I started attending church for the first time my freshman year at Vineyard City Church in Tucson. As I attended the church, I began to see how the space itself was a large factor not only in the functionality of the church, but in what is communicated about religion, God and the mission of the church itself. It also plays a big role in the structure of the services, activities, and the relationship to the greater Tucson community. Pastor Gary Stok

Abstract:
Andrea Palladio was born in Padua in the Republic of Venice in 1508 and practiced his architecture throughout the Veneto until his death in 1580. Today, there are some forth-four surviving palaces, villas, and churches by the master. These buildings have profoundly moved the imagination of countless generations of academics, artists, and architects for over four hundred years. Without a doubt, he has been the most exalted and emulated architect in modern history. While Palladio is well-remembered for his innovative palaces and villas of the Veneto, he is also most distinguished for his revolu

This project is a Catholic church located in downtown Blacksburg, VA. Whereas many religious buildings seem to rely heavily on iconography in order to designate the building as sacred, this project explicitly seeks an architectural expression of the liturgy that exists independently, but not necessarily to the exclusion of, iconography. Also present in this investigation is the idea of distilling the architectural ideas from traditional elements of church design and applying them in a more modern context.<br>Master of Architecture

ABSTRACT MOTIVATION American life is increasingly fragmented, leading to a sense of restlessness and disconnection. Much of that fragmentation can be traced to our pattern of architectural and sociological development, namely, the rise of the automobile suburbs in the 1950s and 60s and the abandonment of densely populated, human- scaled environments like that of the small town or city center (Oldenberg, 1999). PROBLEM Large numbers of architecturally significant buildings have fallen into disrepair over the years following the “white flight” of the 1960s and 70s, during which significant segme
