In Jeonju, there were 29 female missionaries, who included 15 wives of missionaries, five women in the ministry of evangelism for Korean women, four women in the ministry of education, and five women in the hospital ministry. Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin was an African American publisher, journalist, civil rights leader, and suffragist. Her “Address to the First National Conference of Colored Women” opened the proceedings for a group of 100 African American women who met in Boston at the Charles Street African Methodist Episcopal Church in July 1895. Ruffin was the president of the Women’s Era Club in Boston, founded two years previously, and it was her work with this group that inspired her to found the National Federation of Afro-American Women.

We build a general equilibrium model of occupational choice with men and women, human capital investment and fertility. We fit the model to the US and India.
