Abstract:
The church, at Şenlikköy, (a small Rum village in the 1800’s), was built in the 1900’s. With the decrease of the Anatolian Rum population in years and even the extinction due to migration, the church was converted into a mosque as Muslim families settled in the village. It was used as a mosque in the oral history interviews with the elders and the headman (muhtar) of Şenlikköy. It was learned that a timber minaret was added to the structure, but no visual material could be obtained about it. Due to the decline or disappearance of the Christian community, minarets were added to some churches. S

Abstract:
This article comprises a close analysis of churchyard extensions, closures and new cemetery provision in the English midland counties of Leicestershire and Rutland. It provides a graphic outline of these changes, and so extends cemetery history to rural as well as urban areas. The main periods of change examined are the 1850s, 1880–1900 and from the 1960s to 2010. Such a chronology, and its detailed processes and problems, has not hitherto been available for any region. This highlights the effects of these changes on senses of ‘community’, and their links to processes of secularisation, church

In the 16th century Philippines, the marriage of the Church and the State was the dominant set-up by virtue of Spain’s quest for colonization and evangelization. Civil administrators and church missionaries were called to cooperate the will of the king. Inmost cases, their point of contact was also the area of friction because of their opposing intentions.

The ideas put forth here do not fit perfectly or entirely into the genre and form of what has established itself as the scholarly journal article. What is put forth, instead, is a juxtaposition of lines of thinking about the scholarly and popular in publishing, past, present and future. As such it may indeed be quite appropriate to the occasion and the questions raised in the call for papers for this special issue of M/C Journal. The ideas put forth here are intended as pieces of an ever-changing puzzle of the making public of scholarship, which, I hope, may in some way fit with both the work

Abstract:
Introduction Ireland did not have a tradition of printed cookbooks prior to the 20th century. As a consequence, Irish culinary manuscripts from before this period are an important primary source for historians. This paper makes the case that the manuscripts are a unique way of accessing voices that have quotidian concerns seldom heard above the dominant narratives of conquest, colonisation and famine (Higgins; Dawson). Three manuscripts are examined to see how they contribute to an understanding of Irish social and culinary history. The Irish banking crisis of 2008 is a reminder that comments

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the development of corporate law in the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1800, corporation law was a torpid backwater of law, mostly a matter of municipalities, charities, and churches. Only a bridge or two, a handful of manufacturing enterprises, a few banks, a few insurance companies, disturbed its quiet. The nineteenth century, however, was the age of the business corporation. By 1870, corporations had a commanding position in the economy. Private practice and legislation made the law of corporations. The courts played a minor role. No constitutional conventi
