In this article we will present thought of Friedrich Schleiermacher, the father of modern Protestant theology and Metropolitan of Pergamon John D. The facade of this church built in the last quarter of the 16th century once featured no less than 27 such dishes, which were made in the town of Iznik, today in modern Turkey. Similar decoration of church facades with such dishes was common during the period of the 10th to 14th 15th centuries in coastal areas of the European Mediterranean from Spain to Greece.
