Abstract:
In recent years, there has been a strong need for the design of integrated  circuits showing low power consumption. It is possible to create intentionally approximate circuits which don't fully implement the specified logic behaviour, but exhibit improvements in term of area, delay and power consumption. These circuits can be used in many error resilient applications, especially in signal and image processing, computer graphics, computer vision and machine learning. This work describes an evolutionary approach to approximate design of arithmetic circuits and other more complex systems. This text presents a parallel calculation of a fitness function. The proposed method accelerated evaluation of 8-bit approximate multiplier 170 times in comparison with the common version. Evolved approximate circuits were used in different types of edge detectors.

Abstract:
The diploma thesis deals with the detection of measurement error based on the question order using the reaction time. The major part of the theoretical chapter deals with the respondent as the source of the error. A respondent needs to proceed through a cognitive process to answer a question. Various influences affect the process and they might have an effect on the accuracy of the answer. The frequently mentioned effects are age, education and motivation of respondent. The absence of respondents' motivation might lead to a reduction of their effort to properly proceed with the cognitive process. In that case, the respondent does not dedicate the appropriate cognitive effort and time to a question in the questionnaire. That length of time, which the respondent takes to answer, is called the reaction time and it is suggested that it might be used as an indicator of the amount of cognitive effort. Based on previously executed studies, the author designed hypotheses about the change in length of the reaction time with a change of question position in a questionnaire, about the effect of respondents' characteristics on the reaction time and its shortening. The significant shortening of the reaction time on the question located closer to the end of the experimental questionnaire is used as an indicator...

Abstract:
The thesis approaches the problem of systematic errors that arise in measuring precipitation. These errors lead to underestimation of total rainfall. Size of losses can reach in our latitudes even tens of percent. The systematic errors that contribute most to the underestimation include losses caused by the rain gauge walls wetting, evaporation losses and losses due to aerodynamic effects on the rain gauge precipitation particles. A major section of the thesis is formed by background research, which deals with the issue of systematic measurement errors precipitation. The background research tackles the lack of literature on this topic in the Czech Republic. In the research section of the thesis, two existing correction methods for estimating the size of systematic errors for the Czechoslovak manual rain gauge Metra (method developed in the 80's by Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute and the method described by the dissertation thesis Radoslav Tihlárik) were applied to data of selected four stations in the Czech Republic (Milešovka, Bedřichov - Přehrada, Čáslav - Nové Město and Svratouch) . The first mentioned method was applied to all stations in the Slovak Republic in the nineties. Nevertheless, it has not been used in the Czech Republic so far. The results show that the Tihlárik method gives...

Abstract:
The text being offered is methodological micro-tribute to the theory of market reserarch, sociological surveys and opinion polling. It analyses results of already evaluated empirical examinations about the nature of interviewing and measurement error streaming from this source. The results are discussed and completed by authors empirical experience gained in full service market research agency on both domestic and international projects. We are able to measure sampling error or, as some researchers say, errors of non-observation, but we have serious doubts about measurement and prevention of those arising in the datacollection phase. Those errors negatively affect the quality of survey results. Whether it is respondents reactions, interviewer tactics or non-respose phenomena, we are not able to foresay its volume and direction in advance. Partially, bacause those effects are interreacting. Results of sociological survey are uneasy to be generalised because of impossibility to compare data collected in diferent cultural, historical and political surroundings. The text aims to define survey quality rather in a way what it is not. The conclusions of the analyses show that it is safer to rely on prevention of the errors rather than on subsequent data processing. Also, validity and reliability schemes must be...

Abstract:
The thesis presents available theoretical basis for examination of sensitive issues in sociology and draws attention to measurement errors in sociological surveys. Further the analysis of discrepancy in respondents' reports of number of lifetime sexual partner is conducted. For the purpose of the analysis the data from Survey of sexual behavior, accomplished by prof. Petr Weiss, PhD. and docent Jaroslav Zvěřina CSc. in 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008, is employed. The text summarizes available explanations of discrepancy, which are further used for clarification of an incongruity in the data from Czech republic. First an outline of the means of number of lifetime sexual partners for men and women is presented and a reduction of the dataset by extreme values is implemented. The analysis deals with effects of commercial sex on the discrepancy, detects whether men and women respond differently on other sensitive attributes and reveals whether answer strategies are sex-linked. The dataset of female respondents was used for testing the social desirability hypothesis. Finally the SAQ mode data from Survey of sexual behavior are compared with the outputs of the face-to-face interview mode survey.

Diploma thesis deals with the process of validization of Marlowe-Crowne social desirability scale in the Czech context. Despite the fact that social desirability represents an error, which can disrupt validity of obtained data, there is no official Czech version of Marlowe-Crowne scale that could be used in surveys. The aim of this thesis is to create Czech translation of the scale and test its functionality. The Marlowe-Crowne scale is introduced from a theoretical point of view firstly, is discussed its creation, characteristics, its importance in relation to social desirability, critics and problems and possibilities and difficulties of its use in the new context. Further are discussed different ways of translation of research instruments, which could help to preserve their purpose, and method of cognitive interviews as a way of testing of new or adapted research instruments. Modified parallel translation of three translators was used for creation of Czech version of Marlowe-Crowne scale. Cognitive interview, based mostly on verbal protocols, were used for testing of finally translated scale to find out, if scale is applicable in the Czech context without any problems. The (asymptotic) bias of R-estimator in measurement error model was also investigated. Besides measurement errors the problem of heteroscedastic model errors was considered - regression rank score tests of heteroscedasticity with nuisance regression and tests of regression with nuisance heterosce- dasticity were proposed. Finally, in location model tests and estimates of shift parameter for various measurement errors were studied. All the results were derived theoretically and then demonstrated numerically with examples or simulations.

Abstract:
Analytical methods for measurement error estimation in survey data This dissertation aims at the domain of measurement error in social science survey data. To conceptualize and estimate measurement errors it employs the analytical and theoretical framework that stems from the analytical method of structural equation modeling (SEM) and Classical Test Theory (CTT), extended with the component of the systematic measurement error. This thesis has two goals that may contribute to development and extension of Czech social science methodology. The first goal is to illustrate methods of measurement error estimation, which has not been used for analysis of Czech data yet, and to point out to some problematical aspects of these methods. The second goal is to employ presented methods to obtain new findings regarding the quality of data from Czech surveys. The dissertation presents three empirical studies, each of which uses one of the methods defined within the presented theoretical and analytical framework. First study presents an analysis of reliability of measurement with the Quasi Simplex Model (QSM). It illustrates how to use the model and brings optimistic results regarding the reliability of the Czech EU SILC panel data. In the second study the confirmatory factor analysis model, operationally called...

Abstract:
In this thesis we study the effect of regressors measured with an error on an estimated coefficients in a generalized linear model. We infer the true shape of the mean and of the variance function in the given model. We show that assumptions of a generalized linear model are not fulfilled universally if we use variables measured with an error. Despite this, the error-in-variable model can still be useful for testing dependence of original correct regressor. Further on in the thesis, the asymptotic values of coefficients are approximated, assuming g(E(Yi|Wi)) is a quadratic function. Examples for all results are provided through simulations.

The thesis concerns with e ect of covariate measurement error on the least squares estimators and tests of importance of parameters in regression models. It refers to unsatis ed assumptions of linear model when using measurement error covariates and resulting e ect on estimates and tests in regression models. It focuses mainly on investigation of consistence of estimates of linear and quadratic coeficient in additive and multiplicative model with one covariate with homoscedastic and heteroscedastic measurement error. In the nal chapter teoretical results are grounded by simulation study.

Abstract:
A linear regression model, where covariates and a response are subject to errors, is considered in this thesis. For so-called errors-in-variables (EIV) model, suitable error structures are proposed, various unknown parameter estimation techniques are performed, and recent algebraic and statistical results are summarized. An extension of the total least squares (TLS) estimate in the EIV model-the EIV estimate-is invented. Its invariant (with respect to scale) and equivariant (with respect to the covariates' rotation, to the change of covariates direction, and to the interchange of covariates) properties are derived. Moreover, it is shown that the EIV estimate coincides with any unitarily invariant penalizing solution to the EIV problem. It is demonstrated that the asymptotic normality of the EIV estimate is computationally useless for a construction of confidence intervals or hypothesis testing. A proper bootstrap procedure is constructed to overcome such an issue. The validity of the bootstrap technique is proved. A simulation study and a real data example assure of its appropriateness. Strong and uniformly strong mixing errors are taken into account instead of the independent ones. For such a case, the strong consistency and the asymptotic normality of the EIV estimate are shown. Despite of that, their...

Abstract:
Opportunities that we have in today's world are sharply evolving, and the world is changing all together with these changes. This development is noticeably observed within the topic of global movement of (not only) population, which has changed fundamentally, both economically, politically and socially. Today's so much diversified form of migration, which has lost its transparency it used to has, is a very up to date and debated topic currently almost all over the world. Because of high importance of the topic "migration" it is often subject of research and number of surveys. One of the most examined area within the topic migration is attitudes of people towards immigration and immigrant, oftentimes together with investigating cause leading to particular attitude. Due to the international reach of the topic, these attitudes are often subject of cross-national research or national research, which, however, use data from international surveys. There is a clear disparity across European states in these attitudes towards immigration and, above all, the immigrants themselves. Given this nature of cross-national surveys measuring attitudes towards immigrants, it is important to focus on the measurement quality, which is becoming increasingly complex in the perspective of international research. It is...

Abstract:
A lot of technologically relevant incompressible fluids exhibit a substantial variaton of viscosity with the pressure;a falling cylinder viscometer is frequently used for the measurements, determining the viscosity indirectly from the time it takes the sinker to fall a given distance. The relation between the sinker fall velocity and the fluid viscosity is, however, derived under the constant viscosity assumption. The objective of the present thesis is to perform a numerical simulation of the viscometric experiment, assuming an explicit form of the pressure-viscosity dependence and realistic parameter values and to quantitatively assess the difference in body motion to the Navier- Stokes model. The computational method proposed, handling both the nonlinear constitutive relation and the body motion, was tested on simple problems with analytical solutions. The semianalytical relation for the Navier-Stokes model, also re-derived here, is compared to the computational results. The validity of the assumptions used in the theoretical derivation, based on the results of the numerical simulation, is discussed regarding the geometry of the viscometer. Abstract:
This thesis deals with a methodological phenomenon called order effect. This effect creates a situation where the preceding questions influence answers of the subsequent questions. During cognitive responding process, the preceding questions may evoke specific mental associations and ideas that are more easily accessible afterwards during responding of the following questions. This induced information may be used during answer selection process which may cause bias in answers. The same questions placed in different order can generate different answers. Different question order can have different cognitive burden. The aim of this thesis is cognitive burden assessment of different question orders. Data collection was conducted by cognitive interviews which helped to detect how respondents work with particular questions during questionnaire responding process, and to identify specific types of order effect. There are four types of order effect: carryover effect, backfire effect, assimilation and contrast effect. A specific question preceding a general question evokes information which is more accessible for interpretation of a general question therefore this question order is less burdensome. Also the order from negative to positive question is less burdensome than the opposite order because it evokes...
