Abstract:
During the Third Reich, the propaganda impact of architecture and space, cumulated in relation to the basic material provided by Volkskörper, ‘human architecture’. Not only were the bodies of an individual and a community the recipients of architecture or affected by its impact, but they also co-created it. The official Nazi assumptions interpreted in this light may allow, using the perspective of the peculiar features of the Third Reich architecture, to illustrate the relations between an individual and a group during the Nazi times. The analysis of the combination of the human body and resized space demonstrates that a symbolic immersion of an individual in Volksgemeinschaft does not only seem to annihilate him, but through that to incorporate him into the system of mindless obedience.
These issues will be discussed on the example of Poznań WW II projects, placed in the context of the selected model ones from Nuremberg and Weimar.

Abstract:
The internet and social media have been credited with the potential to reinvigorate democracy by offering new avenues of political participation and communication between citi-zens and politicians. The results of empirical studies, however, call for caution, as many politi-cians refrain from fully exploring the interactive potential of new media. This case study focus-es on the web presence of Korean parliamentarians, using basic statistical analyses to explore the use of ICT as a means of political communication. It finds that Korean parliamentarians are less active online, treating ICT mainly as another channel for information distribution. It is thus concluded that ICT is not revolutionizing politics but reinforcing existing patterns of communi-cation that leave a gap between citizens and representatives. This paper was previously submit-ted to CeDem Asia 2016. The literature review and the methodology section have been expand-ed, and additional statistical data as well as further findings on Twitter were added.

Abstract:
Aim. To use earlier developed method of intermicrobial «self-non-self» discrimination in «dominant-associant» pair for the assessment of foreignness of probiotic cultures of Escherichia coli M-17 (with pathogenicity island) and E. coli LEGM-18 (without pathogenicity island). Materials and methods. As dominants reference and clinical strains of bifidobacteria were used in the work, cultures of E. coli M-17 and E. coli LEGM-18 were taken as associants, differing in the presence of genes which code colibactin. Detection of the phenomenon of microbial discrimination was conducted according to the developed algorithm (Bukharin O.V., Perunova N.B., 2011) based on the principle of metabolite induction as a result of preliminary coincubation of dominants (bifidobacteria) with supernatant of associants and the formation of feed back in «dominant-as-sociant» pair. Special growth properties, biofilm formation, and antilysozyme activity served as biological characteristics of investigated coliform bacteria. Results. Testing of E. coli M -17 culture revealed depression of biological properties under investigation and it was estimated as «non-self» possibly due to the presence of pathogenicity island whereas E. coli LEGM-18 (without this fragment) sharply strengthened its biological characteristics and was subjected to assessment as «self». Conclusion. Use of intermicrobial «self-non-self» discrimination in «dominant-associant» pair is promising as basic method when selecting probiotic strains and cultures for creation of new symbiotic compositions and is suitable for quality control of probiotic products.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Injuries to the cervical spine in athletes are rare but potentially devastating outcomes resulting from involvement in sports activities. New rules and regulations implemented by national sports organizations have helped to decrease the rate of cervical spine and spinal cord injuries sustained by athletes. A basic understanding of cervical spine anatomy, physical examination and spine precautions is necessary for any physi cian evaluating athletes on the field to determine if transfer to higher level of care is needed. It is particularly important to know the systematic protocol for spine immobilization, neuro logic exam and helmet removal in a patient with a suspected cervical spine injury. While cervical strain is the most common cervical spine injury, physicians should be familiar with the presentation for other injuries, such as Burner's syndrome (Stinger), cervical disk herniation, transient quadriplegia and cervical spine fractures or dislocations. Special consideration is needed when evaluating patients with Down syndrome as they are at higher risk for atlantoaxial instability. Determination of when an athlete can return to play is patient-specific with early return to play allowed only in a completely asymptomatic patient. Kleeman LT, Gallizzi MA, Blizzard DJ, Erickson MM. Abstract:
The global sea-level rise (SLR) projections for the next few decades are the basis for developing flooding maps that depict the expected hazard scenarios. However, the spatially variable land subsidence has generally not been considered in the current projections. In this study, we use geodetic data from global navigation satellite system (GNSS), synthetic aperture radar interferometric measurements (InSAR) and sea-level data from tidal stations to show the combined effects of land subsidence and SLR along the coast between Catania and Marzamemi, in south-eastern Sicily (southern Italy). This is one of the most active tectonic areas of the Mediterranean basin, which drives accelerated SLR, continuous coastal retreat and increasing effects of flooding and storms surges. We focus on six selected areas, which show valuable coastal infrastructures and natural reserves where the expected SLR in the next few years could be a potential cause of significant land flooding and morphological changes of the coastal strip. Through a multidisciplinary study, the multi-temporal flooding scenarios until 2100, have been estimated. Results are based on the spatially variable rates of vertical land movements (VLM), the topographic features of the area provided by airborne Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) data and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) projections of SLR in the Representative Concentration Pathways RCP 2.6 and RCP 8.5 emission scenarios. In addition, from the analysis of the time series of optical satellite images, a coastal retreat up to 70 m has been observed at the Ciane river mouth (Siracusa) in the time span 2001–2019. Our results show a diffuse land subsidence locally exceeding 10 ± 2.5 mm/year in some areas, due to compacting artificial landfill, salt marshes and Holocene soft deposits. Given ongoing land subsidence, a high end of RSLR in the RCP 8.5 at 0.52 ± 0.05 m and 1.52 ± 0.13 m is expected for 2050 AD and 2100 AD, respectively, with an exposed area of about 9.7 km2 that will be vulnerable to inundation in the next 80 years.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the research of goals and functions of lobby- ing activity. The author has processed the ideas of domestic and foreign scientists, proposed his own approaches to the definition of goals and functions of lobbying activities through the prism of public administration. As a result, a generalized vision of the goals and functions of lobbying activities as interrelated elements of the lobbying system was proposed, and a forecast for further evolution of the goals and functions of domestic lobbying was provided. The analysis of lobbying functions allowed us to notice the tendencies in shift- ing the goals of this activity. If the objectives were fully covered by functions such as mediation between citizens and the state, the information function and the function of organizing plurality of public interests, then the role of strengthening the self-organization of civil society and the function of compromise become in- creasingly important in the process of formation in the developed countries of civil society and the development of telecommunication technologies.Ukrainian lobbyism will not be left to the side of this process. Already, politi- cians of the highest level, leaders of financial and industrial groups have to act, adjust their goals (even if they are — declared), taking into account the reaction of the public. In the future, this trend will only increase. The analysis of current research and political events provides all grounds for believing that, while proper regulatory legislation is being formed in Ukraine, the goals and functions of do- mestic lobbying will essentially shift towards a compromise with the public. It is noted that in spite of the existence of a basic direction of action, lobbying may have several ramified goals. Guided by the goals set, lobbyism can manifest itself in various spheres of the political system of society, combining the closely intertwined interests of various actors in the lobbying process, or even — contrast- ing them.

Abstract:
“After all — even a fool knows — death does not exist, but there is a decomposition of tissues”: The corporeal aspect of death in the proseof Mikhail ShishkinThe dominant theme in Mikhail Shishkin’s fiction is death, presented as considerations about the finiteness of existence, dying of oneself and others, posthumous existence, and immortality. A significant issue is also the description of the dying process and the existence of corpse after death. The article presents the theme of dying and corpse in the novels: The Taking of Izmail, Maidenhair, The Light and the Dark and Shishkin’s short stories. In these works, there is a whole spectrum of thanatological motifs which can be categorized basing on the cause of death. Shishkin describes both death by natural causes and various forms of inflicting death criminal and ritual murders, executions, killing on the battlefield, suicides. His protagonists recognize that it is the body that makes human life limited in time and death itself is perceived not as a moment of death but an uninterrupted process. Shishkin presents the changing bodies of old and sick people. Moreover, he extensively describes corpses with striking naturalist attention to details. The corporeal aspect of death in Shishkin’s prose reveals a contemporary approach to the end of human life: on the one hand, the taboo of death is clear, on the other hand — fascination with corpse is visible in mass culture. Numerous images of dying and corpses in Shishkin’s fiction coexist with joyful themes affirming life, consequently, creating a vision of harmony in the world.„Przecież śmierci — nawet głupi wie — nie ma, ale jest rozkład tkanek”. Cielesny aspekt śmierci w prozie Szyszkina ujawnia współczesne podejście do zakończenia życia ludzkiego: z jednej strony wyraźna jest tabuizacja śmierci, z drugiej — fascynacja martwym ciałem, widoczna w kulturze masowej. Liczne obrazy umierania i trupów pozostają w utworach pisarza w równowadze z elementami radosnymi, afirmującymi życie, tworząc z nimi wizję harmonii w świecie.

Abstract:
The fault-bounded Cianzo basin represents a Cenozoic intermontane depocenter between the Puna plateau and Eastern Cordillera of the central Andean fold-thrust belt in northern Argentina. New characterizations of fold-thrust structure, nonmarine sedimentation, and sediment provenance for the shortening-induced Cianzo basin at 23°S help constrain the origin, interconnectedness, and subsequent uplift and exhumation of the basin, which may serve as an analogue for other intermontane hinterland basins in the Andes. Structural mapping of the Cianzo basin reveals SW and NE-plunging synclines within the >6000 m-thick, upsection coarsening Cenozoic clastic succession in the shared footwall of the N-striking, E-directed Cianzo thrust fault and transverse, NE-striking Hornocal fault. Growth stratal relationships within upper Miocene levels of the succession indicate syncontractional sedimentation directly adjacent to the Hornocal fault. Measured stratigraphic sections and clastic sedimentary lithofacies of Cenozoic basin-fill deposits show upsection changes from (1) a distal fluvial system recorded by vi fine-grained, paleosol-rich, heavily bioturbated sandstones and mudstones (Paleocene‒Eocene Santa Bárbara Subgroup, ~400 m), to (2) a braided fluvial system represented by cross-stratified sandstones and interbedded mudstones with 0.3 to 8 m upsection-fining sequences (Upper Eocene–Oligocene Casa Grande Formation, ~1400 m), to (3) a distributary fluvial system in the distal sectors of a distributary fluvial megafan represented by structureless sheetflood sandstones, stratified pebble conglomerates and sandstones, and interbedded overbank mudstones (Miocene Río Grande Formation, ~3300 m), to (4) a proximal alluvial fan system with thick conglomerates interbedded with thin discontinuous sandstone lenses (upper Miocene Pisungo Formation, ~1600 m). New 40Ar/39Ar geochronological results for five interbedded volcanic tuffs indicate distributary fluvial deposition of the uppermost Río Grande Formation from 16.31 ± 0.6 Ma to 9.69 ± 0.05 Ma. Sandstone petrographic results show distinct upsection trends in lithic and feldspar content in the Casa Grande, Río Grande, and Pisungo formations, potentially distinguishing western magmatic arc (Western Cordillera) sediment sources from evolving eastern thrust-belt sources (Puna‒Eastern Cordillera). In addition to growth stratal relationships and 40Ar/39Ar constraints, conglomerate clast compositions reflect distinct lithologic differences, constraining the activation of the Cianzo thrust and coeval movement on the reactivated Hornocal fault. Finally, U-Pb geochronological analyses of sandstone detrital zircon populations in conjunction with paleocurrent data and depositional facies patterns help distinguish localized sources from more distal sources west of the basin, revealing a systematic eastward advance of Eocene to Miocene fold-thrust deformation in the central Andes of northern Argentina.<br>text
