Objective: The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the etiologic agent of cervical cancer, but alone it is incapable of inducing oncogenesis. Rather, progression to invasive lesions is associated with host immunity and interference in the process of cellular apoptosis. Among the several genes involved in cell death, the FAS gene appears to be an important factor. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether there is an association between polymorphisms of the FAS -670 gene promoter region and preinvasive and invasive lesions of the cervix. Methods: The FAS gene was evaluated for the presence of polymorphisms using polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism techniques in 225 blood samples for the control group, as well as cervical tissue from patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 (CIN 3; 75 cases) or invasive carcinoma (214 cases). Results: The heterozygous genotype (AG) of the FAS -670 gene promoter region was significantly more frequent in women with CIN 3, with an estimated risk of three times (OR=3.0; 95% CI: 1.29 to 7.16). No difference, however, was observed in the control group and women with cervical cancer. In women with cancer, the genotypes were similar in the different histological types and degree of tumor differentiation. Assessing allelic distribution (A or G), we observed no difference in frequency of allele in studied groups. Conclusion: Polymorphism of the promoter region of the FAS -670 gene was associated with increased risk of CIN 3, but not for invasive cancer of the cervix when compared to the control group.

Abstract: Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix is preceded by cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 (CIN 3). Tumor invasion involves degradation of extracellular matrix and epithelium basement membrane by proteolytic enzymes called metalloproteinases (MMPs). Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) are also involved in the invasion process. Angiogenesis is a prerequisite for tumor progression. Objective: To analyze the expression of MMP-2, MMP-9 and MMP-14, TIMP-1, TIMP-2 and VEGF-A in CIN 3 and invasive carcinoma. Subject and Methods: This comparative observational study was consists of three groups: Group 1: 55 cases diagnosed with CIN 3, Group 2: 30 cases with CIN 3 associated with invasive carcinoma and Group 3: 46 cases with invasive carcinoma. Protein expression was investigated separately in tumor and stromal cells by immunohistochemistry and evaluated by the percentage of cells positive for immunostaining using morphometric software. Statistical Analysis: Was performed applying paired t-test or Mann-Whitney or Wilcoxon Signed Rank. Results: In each diagnostic group, expression markers were significantly higher: MMP-14 in tumor cells, and TIMP-2 in stromal cells; also MMP-9 expression was significantly higher in stromal cells, except in invasive component of group 2, and TIMP-1 had significantly higher expression in stromal cells of invasive carcinoma and in tumor cells of CIN 3. VEGF-A expression was significantly higher only in tumor cells CIN 3. Comparing the expression of markers between groups, two by two, we find the greatest differences between the extreme groups, i.e. between invasive carcinoma and CIN 3. The expression of MMP-2 was significantly greater in the stromal component CIN 3 in group 2 than in CIN 3 only. The expression of VEGF-A was significantly higher in the group stromal cell carcinoma when compared to stromal cells CIN 3. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the expression of TIMP-1 increases in the stromal cells and decreases in tumor cells when CIN 3 progresses to invasive carcinoma. MMP-9 and TIMP-2 had similar expression in CIN 3 and invasive carcinoma, which limits inferences about its role in neoplastic progression. The immunohistochemical pattern of expression of MMPs, TIMPs and VEGF-A in CIN 3 and invasive carcinoma, as these lesions were associated, was similar. The expression of VEGF-A was higher in tumor cells than in stromal cells in CIN 3, but when the lesion progresses to invasive carcinoma its expression increases in the stromal cells and the tumor cells does not change. The expression of MMP-14, MMP-2, TIMP-1 and VEGF-A was increased with the severity of the neoplasia

Abstract:
This dissertation provides an analysis about the application of a data model based on IEC 61970 (CIM) standard – a tool for exchanging operational and equipments information among different Electrical Power Utilities' computing systems. The purpose of this standard is to create a mechanism for information exchange using XML, called CIM/XML – a format specifically used by Electrical Power Utilities' Control Centers for data exchange. The IEC 61970 standard-based data models is presented as well the evaluation of CIM/XML as a tool for data interoperability among Electrical Power Utilities' databases, that uses different modeling and implementation approaches. The benefit of this model – besides of using a open standard technology (XML) that can be found on any type of computer – is the capability of store and transfer information not only from equipments, but also from network topology, load flow curves, generation scheduling, equipments outages, SCADA system measurements, status indication and alarms. It also enables the storage of simulation results, such as the power flow bus voltage and lines loads. Additionally, is also provided highly detailed information about: the CIM object-oriented model implementation mapped to a relational database; the records of equipments and topology of an aerial and underground subtransmission line section; the information (exported and imported using CIM/XML format) included in the database, and the CIM/XML document generation.

Abstract:
Baila, Saraghina. Luego descansa.

Abstract:
The CAN (Controller Area Network) is a standard in the communication bus, widespread in industrial applications, particularly in automotive systems. Currently, one of the main problems in the automotive industry is that this bus is with many messages on the bus, the result of incremental incorporation of electronic systems in automobiles, since there is a greater demand for connectivity due to the demands of society and the market. Alternatively, it has been developed a new communications network, known as CAN with Flexible Data-Rate (CAN-FD), which is a bus with transmission speeds higher and higher capacity data transport information. This project\'s main objective is to explore the features of the network CAN-FD, through simulations of the traffic of messages on a CAN network FD using data from a real CAN network, and verifying the predictability both in the context of a protocol that can meet the demand complex systems. The comparison is performed from a set of messages added to the network to verify the boundaries of each of the transmission networks and the respective delay times of the messages. As a second case study, a network of closed-loop control was developed, connected to a CAN bus and CAN bus FD. This control technique has eliminated the noises that interfere with the control and check the extent that the communication protocol can keep a control loop running. The results showed that it is possible to transmit a huge amount of data with the lowest usage busload (amount of transmitted messages) to the vehicle through the use of CAN bus FD, but not yet released to market a CAN controller FD to accomplish this task . Moreover, both protocols, CAN-FD and CAN has its predictability compromised because they are unable to send the message when the bus is more than 98.86% load.

Abstract:
Chapter 8 discusses the promotion of women's psychosomatic health by prevention or early treatment of cancer and obesity. Health providers have to consider the biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors that alter psychosomatic interactions to generate these health conditions. Primary/secondary prevention need more emphasis than tertiary prevention or treatment. The transition of normal cervical epithelium to cervical-intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), and the progression of CIN 2/3 to cancer is preventable. Two-thirds of patients with CIN have HPV infection. Cervical screening allows astute clinical decision-making as CIN could revert back to normal epithelium. Colposcopically-directed early treatment of CIN 2/3 is a secondary preventive measure. Cervical screening has reduced cervical cancer in the West but organised screening is unavailable in low-middle income countries where cervical cancer is common. Sociocultural practices promote unsafe sex, such as when minors in these countries acquire HPV infection through marriage to an older infected male or when women/adolescents are war victims. Inebriated party-goers may acquire HPV infection through unsafe sex. HPV vaccines protect against 70% of carcinogenic HPV strains only. Serious adverse effects after vaccination are uncommon. Barrier contraception prevents HPV, and other sexually transmitted diseases. Obesity increases the risk of endometrial cancer. Type-1 endometrial cancer relates to obesity and starts at a younger age, unlike type-2. Obesity also affects fertility. Transgenerational changes in the fetus of the obese gravida can promote obese offspring. Bariatric surgery for obesity is however expensive, with a potential for complications. WHO directives thus advise on prevention of obesity, and the overweight habitus. Primary prevention of obesity through lifestyle changes should start in childhood.

Full text
Abstract:
Mild bleeding symptoms in a female patient were shown to be related to defective platelet function: Aggregation induced by ADP and PAP was decreased and platelet spreading was disturbed. Platelet membrane glycoproteins were analyzed by various electrophoretic procedures (SDS electrophoresis, nonreduced-reduced 2-dimensional and high resolution 2-dimensional electrophoresis). These studies revealed a decreased concentration of normal glycoprotein lb (GP Ib) and the appearance of an additional glycopeptide with an apparent Mr of 160.000 under reducing conditions. This component was strongly labeled in intact cells by periodate-3H-sodium borohydride. Staining characteristics of the additional glycopeptide were also similar to those of GP lb. Immunobiotting using a monospecific anti-glycocalicin antiserum provided conclusive evidence for a structural variant of GP lb molecularly characterized by an increase of about 20.000 in apparent Mp of the large subunit. The abnormal glycopeptide is cleaved by the endogenous calcium-dependent neutral protease and the resulting glycocali-cin exhibits the same increase in Mr as intact variant GP lb. The abnormal glycopeptide was also detected in 3 relatives of the proposita. All of the carriers are obviously heterozygous for the underlying mutant gene.

Abstract:
Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones, will disrupt many industries in the next 5 to 10 years. In this research brief, we speculate about how UAS could be used in survey data collection to make survey data more accurate and/or less costly. We put forth three ideas for how UAS can be used to improve surveys in the future to (1) supplement survey data with UAS photo and sensor data; (2) deliver survey hardware to selected respondents, and (3) detect and enumerate housing units for sample selection.

Herbert, George. How Can Middle-income Countries Improve Their Skills Systems Post- COVID-19? Institute of Development Studies (IDS), February 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2021.082.

Full text
Abstract:
Vocational training systems in middle-income countries are going to face multiple challenges in the post-COVID era, notably, challenges related to (1) automation; (2) the transition to a green economy, and (3) demographic pressures. Of these, automation - linked to the burgeoning ‘fourth industrial revolution’ that is set to transform the global economy - represents the most serious challenge and is the only one of the three challenges discussed in any depth in this paper. Whilst estimates of the likely scale of automation in the coming years and decades vary widely, it appears likely that waves of automation will lead to a dramatic decline in many kinds of jobs that largely involve routine, repetitive tasks. These trends pre-date COVID-19, but the disruption caused by the pandemic provides an opportunity to prepare for these challenges by implementing vocational training system reforms as part of the Build Back Better agenda. Reforms to vocational training systems will be crucial to ensuring middle-income countries respond appropriately to accelerating labour market changes. However, they should only form a limited part of that response and need to be integrated with a wide range of other policy measures. Vocational training reform will need to occur in the context of major reforms to basic education in order to ensure that all workers are equipped with the cross-cutting cognitive and socio-emotional skills they will require to perform hard-to-automate tasks and to be able to learn and adapt rapidly in a changing economy. Middle-income countries will also likely need to progressively expand social protection schemes in order to provide a safety net for workers that struggle to adapt to changing labour market requirements.
