Wijdoogen, Carola. 7 Roles to Create Sustainable Success. NL Amsterdam: Amsterdam University Press, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.5117/9789082949742.

Abstract:
Which roles and practices do you adopt to effectively guide businesses towards a sustainable future? And what skills and competencies do you need to establish sustainable transformation? In 7 Roles to Create Sustainable Success, Carola Wijdoogen shares the insights of 25 professionals around the world and her own experiences as Chief Sustainability Officer of Dutch Railways (NS), which she helped transform into a climate-neutral, circular and inclusive railway company. For example, the Netherlands was the first country in the world with trains running on 100% wind power. The innovative science-based 7 Roles approach is explained using an excellent collection of practices and anecdotes from (among others) Kate Raworth (Doughnut Economy) and CSOs of companies like Ingka Group, Levi Strauss & Co., Starbucks Coffee Company, Unilever Benelux, Microsoft, Kellogg Company, Interface Europe, KPN, Philips International B.V, DSM, AkzoNobel, Google, Tommy Hilfiger Global/PVH Europe, etc.

Young, Serinity. Yoginīs and Ḍākinīs: Enabling Male Immortality, Part 2. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780195307887.003.0008.

Full text
Abstract:
The ancient Indian flying divinities called ḍākinīs do not have wings, but even so their iconography reveals their power of flight. Perhaps most interestingly, this power is revealed in the roofless, circular temples of yoginīs, Hindu deities who can confer the power of flight on their male adepts, along with other supernatural powers. The ḍākinīs of Buddhism are recognized by their flying forms in paintings and their rainbow-colored garments. Both yoginīs and ḍākinīs are goddesses who cross boundaries: they move between this earthly world and the heavenly or spiritual realm, thus implicitly promising adepts that they, too, can transcend earthly reality, gain supernatural powers, and thus achieve liberation from human, bodily limitations.

Abstract:
The four-spoked wheel that is the subject of this chapter has a number of associations: it is a children’s toy, a torture device, a love charm, and an emblem of the circle of fate. In each of these contexts, it is the wheel’s spinning that gives it resonance. In the andron, mosaic wheels draw attention to the living revolutions of wine and conversation that unfold in the andron and align sympotic circling with cyclic patterns of movement that carry a deep cultural association with universal rhythms and harmonies. The result of rhythmic turning elsewhere—in dancing or in the movements of the stars—is balance, unity, constancy, and order. These are also the values of the ideal symposium, and in highlighting the pattern of circular movement as a stable cycle, the wheel points drinkers to the promise of these results.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the NFL Films archive, the largest sports film archive in the world. Building from the authenticity and emotional power the company assigns to film, president Steve Sabol calls the NFL Films archive “the soul of the NFL,” “the NFL's Smithsonian,” and “football's wine cellar.” NFL Films' archive consists of two main parts that serve overlapping functions: a fire-proof, temperature-controlled, limited-access vault that houses and safeguards nearly all the film the company has created and purchased since Blair Motion Pictures' beginning; a film library that organizes copies of footage for inclusion in the company's productions and for sale to clients. This chapter examines the NFL Films archive's role in the company's efforts to create, circulate, and control the National Football League's image.
