Dear Editor: I read your publication ethics issue on “bogus impact factors” with great interest (1). I would like to initiate a new trend in manipulating the citation counts. There are several ethical approaches to increase the number of citations for a published paper (2). However, it is apparent that some manipulation of the number of citations is occurring (3, 4). Self - citations, “those in which the authors cite their own works” account for a significant portion of all citations (5). Abstract:
Open Data is a concept receiving increased attention and support in academic environments, with one justification being that shared data may be re-used in further research. But what evidence exists for such re-use, and what is the relationship between the producers of shared datasets and researchers making use of them? This work in progress uses dataset citations in the OpenAlex bibliometric database to analyze the relationship between creators of datasets and authors who cite them, at individual, institutional, and national levels. It finds that most countries cite US datasets more frequently

Abstract:
Background: In an era of explosive growth in biomedical evidence, improving systematic review (SR) search processes is increasingly critical. Text-mining tools (TMTs) are a potentially powerful resource to improve and streamline search strategy development. Two types of TMTs are especially of interest to searchers: word frequency (useful for identifying most used keyword terms, e.g., PubReminer) and clustering (visualizing common themes, e.g., Carrot2). Objectives: The objectives of this study were to compare the benefits and trade-offs of searches with and without the use of TMTs for evidence

Rodriguez, Simon, Tim Hwang, and Rebecca Gelles. Comparing Corporate and University Publication Activity in AI/ML. Center for Security and Emerging Technology, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.51593/20200067.

Abstract:
Based on news coverage alone, it can seem as if corporations dominate the research on artificial intelligence and machine learning when compared to the work of universities and academia. Authors Simon Rodriguez, Tim Hwang and Rebecca Gelles analyze the data over the past decade of research publications and find that, in fact, universities are the more dominant producers of AI papers. They also find that while corporations do tend to generate more citations to the work they publish in the field, these “high performing” papers are most frequently cross-collaborations with university labs

Abstract:
Background. The 2009 enactment of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act and the wide adoption of electronic health record systems (EHR) have ushered an increasing documentation burden, frequently cited as a key factor affecting the work experience of healthcare professionals and a contributor to burnout. Purpose. This Technical Brief aims to identify: (1) measures of documentation burden, including evaluation of validity evidence, strengths, and weaknesses; (2) different perspectives on the appropriateness of different measures of documentation burden;

Abstract:
Objectives. To review the evidence on harms associated with patient-clinician real time encounters using video-based telehealth and determine the effectiveness of any related patient safety practices (PSPs). PSPs are interventions, strategies, or approaches intended to prevent or mitigate unintended consequences of healthcare delivery and improve patient safety. This review provides information that clinicians and health system leaders need to determine how to minimize harms from increasing real-time use of telehealth. Methods. We followed rapid review processes of the Agency for Healthcare Re

Abstract:
Objectives. Diagnostic errors are a known patient safety concern across all clinical settings, including the emergency department (ED). We conducted a systematic review to determine the most frequent diseases and clinical presentations associated with diagnostic errors (and resulting harms) in the ED, measure error and harm frequency, as well as assess causal factors. Methods. We searched PubMed®, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL®), and Embase® from January 2000 through September 2021. We included research studies and targeted grey literature reporting diagnosti

Abstract:
Objective. To assess the comparative benefits and harms across three airway management approaches (bag valve mask [BVM], supraglottic airway [SGA], and endotracheal intubation [ETI]) by emergency medical services in the prehospital setting, and how the benefits and harms differ based on patient characteristics, techniques, and devices. Data sources. We searched electronic citation databases (Ovid® MEDLINE®, CINAHL®, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Scopus®) from 1990 to September 2020 and reference lists, and posted a Federal
