Abstract:
Objectives: Bibliometric analysis scrutinizes documents quantitatively using key parameters such as number of publications, subject area, citation metrics and collaborative networks. This study was conducted to answer these research questions: 1) What is the current publication trend globally on COVID-19?; 2) Which publications are in the top 100 most cited articles?; 3) Who are the most influential authors on COVID-19?; and 4) Which themes of COVID-19 are the most popular among scholars. Methods: A bibliometric search was conducted in Scopus database using keywords such as `COVID- 19’ or ‘COVID19’ or ‘COVID’ or ‘SARS-CoV-2’ in the article title. Document type was limited to original articles, review articles, conference papers and book chapters. A total of 139,888 documents were retrieved. The data is further analysed using Harzing’s Publish or Perish and VOSviewer to obtain the relevant citation metrics as well as visualization of collaborating networks. Results: Out of the total documents, 39% were published in the ‘Medicine’ subject area. Other subject areas include ‘Social Sciences’ (8.6%), ‘Computer Science’ (4%), ‘Engineering’ (3.1%) and ‘Psychology’ (2.8%). The most productive institution is Harvard Medical School which produced a total of 1921 documents. The top three leading countries are the United States, China and the United Kingdom, while the most productive author is Mahase, E. with 218 documents. The most influential publication, which had 11,279 citations, was titled `Clinical course and risk factors for mortality of adult inpatients with COVID-19 in Wuhan, China: a retrospective cohort study” published in The Lancet, 2020. The 100 top-cited publications have citations ranging from 802 – 11279. These top publications were published in 52 source titles, with the majority of the top-cited articles being published in The Lancet. Conclusion: Publications in COVID-19 are increasing exponentially and are mainly dominated by the United States. Extensive research is still ongoing, with more new discoveries in vaccine areas and related effects of COVID-19 are anticipated.International Journal of Human and Health Sciences Supplementary Issue: 2022 Page: S46

Abstract:
In an interlinked corpus of documents, the context in which a citation appears provides extra information about the cited document. However, associating terms in the context to the cited document remains an open problem. We propose a novel document generation approach that statistically incorporates the context in which a document links to another document. We quantitatively show that the proposed generation scheme explains the linking phenomenon better than previous approaches. The context information along with the actual content of the document provides significant improvements over the previous approaches for various real world evaluation tasks such as link prediction and log-likelihood estimation on unseen content. The proposed method is more scalable to large collection of documents compared to the previous approaches.

Abstract:
Adapted sports (AS) allows the physical activity level to increase in groups such as people with disabilities, pregnant women, children and older people. AS modifies conventional sports' formal structure to make them accessible. This study aimed to analyse the trend followed by the annual publications on this topic and identify the most productive and cited authors, journals, and countries with the highest number of publications, the most cited documents and the most used keywords. The search was conducted in the Web of Science (WoS) and traditional bibliometric laws were applied. A total of 398 documents were identified. The annual publications followed an exponential growth trend (R2=89.5%). "Influence of Adapted Sport on Quality of Life: Perceptions of Athletes with Cerebral Palsy" was the most cited document. The categories of most interest to researchers were Sports Science and Rehabilitation. The journal with the higher number of publications was Retos-Nuevas Tendencias en Educación Física, Deportes y Recreación. The USA had the highest number of published documents (122 documents) and citations (973), leading extensive research networks worldwide. A total of 1270 authors have published on this topic, using "adapted sport", "adaptive sport", "disability, and "physical activity" as the most used keywords. Makhov (12 documents) was the most prolific co-author, and Lundberg was the most cited. Keywords: Adaptive Sport; Modified Sport; Disability; Physical Activity; Exercise.

Abstract:
Climate change is an ongoing topic in nearly all areas of society since many years. A discussion of climate change without referring to scientific results is not imaginable. This is especially the case for policies since action on the macro scale is required to avoid costly consequences for society. In this study, we deal with the question of how research on climate change and policy are connected. In 2019, the new Overton database of policy documents was released including links to research papers that are cited by policy documents. The use of results and recommendations from research on climate change might be reflected in citations of scientific papers in policy documents. Although we suspect a lot of uncertainty related to the coverage of policy documents in Overton, there seems to be an impact of international climate policy cycles on policy document publication. We observe local peaks in climate policy documents around major decisions in international climate diplomacy. Our results point out that IGOs and think tanks–with a focus on climate change–have published more climate change policy documents than expected. We found that climate change papers that are cited in climate change policy documents received significantly more citations on average than climate change papers that are not cited in these documents. Both areas of society (science and policy) focus on similar climate change research fields: biology, earth sciences, engineering, and disease sciences. Based on these and other empirical results in this study, we propose a simple model of policy impact considering a chain of different document types: The chain starts with scientific assessment reports (systematic reviews) that lead via science communication documents (policy briefs, policy reports or plain language summaries) and government reports to legislative documents.

Abstract:
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify core journals and other types of literature cited in four major pediatric nursing journals and to characterize coverage of these resources in major bibliographic databases. The study was part of the ‘‘Mapping the Literature of Nursing Project’’ of the Medical Library Association’s Nursing and Allied Health Resource Section. It updates a similar analysis published in 2006 and determines whether citation patterns have changed over time. Methods: Cited references from articles published in 4 pediatric nursing journals between 2011 and 2013 were collected. Cited journal titles were ranked according to number of times cited and analyzed according to Bradford’s Law of Scattering and the 80/20 rule to identify the most frequently cited journals. Five databases were surveyed to assess the coverage of the most-often-cited journals. The most frequently cited non-journal sources were also identified. Results: Journals were the most frequently cited sources, followed by books, government documents, Internet resources, and miscellaneous resources. Most cited sources were cited within ten years of their publication, which was particularly true for government documents and Internet resources. Scopus had complete coverage of the most frequently cited journals, whereas PubMed had nearly complete coverage. Conclusions: Compared with the 2006 study, the list of top-cited journals referenced by pediatric nursing researchers has remained relatively stable, but the number of cited journal titles has increased. Book citations have declined, and Internet and government document references have increased. These findings suggest that librarians should retain subscriptions to frequently cited journal titles, provide efficient document delivery of articles from infrequently used journals, deemphasize but not eliminate books, and connect patrons with useful open-access Internet resources.

Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to present moissac, a former commercial town in quercy, as it was in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Situated near the confluence of the rivers tarn and garonne, moissac obtained great advantages form the development of transatlantic trade. Its population, its urban administration and environment, its economical activities are all successively examined. The depraciation of money is evaluated. The analysis of prices and wages movements demonstrates a fall in popular purchasing power, particularly strong in the eighteenth century. The attitudes of men confronted by disease and death are then studied. The hippocratic medecine is examined in its principles and its practice; an outline of popular medecine is presented. The measures taken, in the seventeenth century, by the public authorities against plague are discussed. The study of wills bears witness to the evolution of religious feelings and beeliefs concerning the hereafter. A final section is devoted to the life of a bourgeois family as revealed by its records

Abstract:
This thesis concerns the development of tourism and art practices in the metropolitan outskirts, in particular in the social housing projects (1950-1970). The central question addressed is : how can tourism and art be a factor of promotion of districts stigmatized by media and political discourse ? Are the studied practices pioneering ? To answer these questions, we selected three fieldworks: the northern suburbs of Marseille, the Northern and South-Eastern suburbs of Paris and a Canadian public housing project, the Habitations Jeanne-Mance in Montréal. Our qualitative study explains that the development of tourism and art practices in the edge of the metropolis questions the production of knowledge on stigmatized areas. Therefore, they involve political, aesthetic and economic issues

Hernandez, Perez Sara. "Que faut-il choisir entre une gestion centralisée et un système d’autogestion base sur des mécanismes de marché pour réduire le trafic illégal des espèces faunistiques sauvages : analyse comparative économique et institutionnelle appliquée aux tortues marines en Colombie." Thesis, Paris 10, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA100206/document.

Full text
Abstract:
For over 30 years, Colombia built its national policy to protect wildlife species against the illegal traffic. The national institutional framework was strengthened by the ratification of the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of flora and fauna threatened with extinction) in 1981. However, this institutional framework is not sufficient to curb the illegal trade of marine turtles species. Despite some success to protect and recover some species, what really matters is the effectiveness of the national policy to conserve wildlife species. Hence my proposal to design and implement a cap and trade system based on transferable quotas decreasing in time, reinforced by contractual arrangements. This self-organized system aims at having zero catches level and enhance conformity and cooperation within the environmental regulation. This thesis aims to compare the efficacy of these two modes of governance to reduce the illegal trade of sea turtles based on the following criteria: the environmental performance, economic efficiency and social equity. I pursuit by estimating the corresponding transaction costs to show that the variation in the structure of transaction costs and the distribution of these costs among stakeholders affect the final performance of the institutional framework. Cost-benefit analysis was performed to justify institutional change, in addition to the analysis of transaction costs. This study is located in the north of Colombia, an area of 30 km, indigenous Wayuu territory, being more concerned with the illegal green turtles (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata)

Abstract:
94
As the fast dissemination of research results on the worldwide web, a user’s task of finding useful information becomes more challenging. Usage of scholarly material is growing rapidly and there is a growing demand for high-quality scholarly information. Since a scientific document is a structural text, there would have some useful features that can be used to improve retrieval performance. Here, we investigate three features, fonts, positions and cited references. Although in the past these three individual features have been used in document search, no existing research discusses how to integrate these three together to improve retrieval performance. Therefore, we will first investigate the relationships among them, and then study how to combine them to design a novel retrieval method based on their relationships. Finally, extensive experiments have been carried out through real scientific documents to show its usefulness and performance.

Abstract:
AbstractCritics have targeted the quality of professional knowledge in policymaking, suggesting that education policy should draw on the best research evidence. This chapter examines the institutional responsiveness to this critique. The authors analyze the use and translation of knowledge sources in Norwegian policy documents on a recent school reform for basic education in Norway. A bibliometric analysis and an in-depth inquiry of the documents reveal the most often co-cited references and their argumentative use as evidence. They conclude that the reports bring together systems of reasoning that in practice are highly differentiated but in policy are aligned with each other. Moreover, evidence serves an inter-mediational role by shaping policy options connecting both policy realms and systems.

Abstract:
AbstractScience, Technology, and Innovation play a crucial role in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 (SF DRR). The International Consortium on Landslides (ICL) initiated the Sendai Landslide Partnerships 2015–2025 as a voluntary commitment to SF DRR. In 2020, the ICL launched the Kyoto 2020 Commitment for Global Promotion of Understanding and Reducing Landslide Disaster Risk (KLC 2020) as a follow-up of the Sendai Landslide Partnerships 2015–2025. Closely related to the above-mentioned Innovation are patents as a form of intellectual property rights and are often used as an innovation assessment parameter. This article reports on a study conducted to look at the patent documents that are available in open-access databases in order to evaluate how well they relate to the field of landslide research and technology. Landslide-related patent documents were extracted using different search terms in the patent document titles, abstracts, claims and/or their general text from the Google Patents, using the Espacenet tools from the European Patent Office, and the Derwent Patent Index inside the Web of Science offered by Clarivate Analytics, respectively. The extracted patent documents were analyzed with regard to the applicant respectively inventor affiliation (academic, non-academic, country of affiliation) and to the technical field of a patent using well-known patent classifications. The most active countries claiming landslide-related patents were recognized. Furthermore, review and research articles in SpringerLink and SCOPUS databases were searched to study how often scientific articles are citing landslide-related patents. The results of the study can be summarized as follow: (i) in the Google Patents database there are 15,000 + landslide-related patent documents, and in the Espacenet and the Derwent Innovation index database 5000+, respectively. In the patents titles, abstracts, and claims, processes are more often used to describe the patent than the technology; (ii) the number of technological (non-science) based patents is higher than that of academic (science-based) patents, with some specific field of applications, where the situation is the opposite; (iii) with regard to the different areas of technology to which landslide-related patent documents pertain, the categories “G-Physics” and “E-Fixed constructions” are clearly prevailing: “G” for debris flows and landslides, and “E” for fallings rocks and mudflows; (iv) the majority of landslide-related patents are filled and/or granted in China, followed by Japan and South Korea, USA and EU member countries—five major emerging economies (called BRICS) are outperforming developed countries, with a very prevailing Chinese contribution; (v) only a fraction of the order of a few one-in-thousands of landslide-related patents documents are cited in journal review and research articles.

AbstractThis chapter examines the development and use of Vision Zero policy and its related strategy, safe system approach, in the road safety programs of the United Nations and its specialized agencies. The chapter shows that progressively, Vision Zero moved from being cited in documents as an example of a transformative policy to being promoted as a way of thinking about or approaching road safety for countries to adopt. In addition, it has been used as a principle in the Road safety strategy for the United Nations System and its personnel. This strategy embraces the ethical imperative that “no road users, including pedestrians, should be killed or seriously injured in road crashes involving United Nations vehicles.” It commits United Nations organizations to Vision Zero. It calls for a shift from a traditional road safety approach to a safe system approach.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Although they do occur, dramatic failures of boiler and superheater tubes are somewhat rare. More often the failure modes are subtle. Often a fine line must be drawn between “failure” and normal deterioration with normal life expectancy. This paper’s primary focus is an integrated approach to elucidation of the mechanisms and causes of boiler and superheater failures used by the author. Examples documented by photos and micrographs are offered. The scope is limited to the waterside of fired boilers, ranging from high pressure utility units through intermediate pressure co-generation, to low pressure process and heating boilers. Both subtle and classic failures are represented. Techniques include visual observation, metallography, and scanning electron microscopy. Failure mechanisms cited include: stress corrosion cracking, caustic gouging, fatigue, high temperature oxidation, decarburization, and oxygen attack. Subsequent causes include: water treatment practices, manufacturing defects, construction storage and pre-startup, and operation.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract The corrosion of E-glass by multiple corrosive media and most significantly by strong acids has been documented via multiple testing protocols. Bare glass weight loss in a corrosive media is often cited to gauge the performance of various glass fiber compositions. ASTM C581 testing is used to test composite flexural strength/modulus performance over time in a corrosive media under no stress. Stress-corrosion testing by Greenwood plots the deterioration of composite rods over time when exposed to both a corrosive media and multiple stress states. This paper follows the corrosion of E-glass & Advantex® (1) E-CR glass pultruded rods visually using SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). It examines the corrosion via EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray) and shows the mechanism by which 10% sulfuric acid destroys the composite rod. The most interesting observation is that the bond strength between resin and reinforcement is lost well before a significant percentage of glass has corroded.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Even in the 21st century, the majority of coating inspections are documented with pencil and paper and later transcribed to official reports. An experienced inspector will occasionally overlook or not record a critical piece of data that can cast doubts on the credibility of the quality assurance for a particular project. Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) are as compact as a pocket notepad, and inspection protocols can be programmed to ensure complete and accurate data collection. The PDA effective replaces the notepad or clipboard and can be stowed with inspector’s equipment, leaving the hands free to maneuver through tight spaces and safely climb ladders. PDAs are relatively inexpensive, easy to use, and can minimize transcription errors that can prove quite costly. The PDA communicates with a desktop application to archive inspection records electronically. One such application has been developed with inspection protocols programmed into a PDA that can produce uniform maintenance corrective actions for protective coatings. This automated system minimizes the subjectivity often cited in maintenance decision-making. This paper will describe the benefits of the PDA as an inspection tool as demonstrated with the development of a prototype.

Abstract:
Methods for the formation of digital collections of a digital mathematical library are presented. With the help of tools for analyzing the structure of documents and their style features, the main set of document metadata has been formed. For each document, this set includes the title of the article, a list of authors, and a list of cited bibliography. To supplement the metadata, methods of extracting knowledge from Wikidata were used. With the help of the developed system of SPARQL-queries, the search and refinement of data on documents of the collections was carried out. In particular, information about the authors of the articles has been added (full spelling of surnames, first names, patronymics in various languages, place of work at the time of writing the article, etc.). In addition, methods are proposed for refining and supplementing bibliographic references given in the articles. When forming metadata of retro collections, a search was made in Wikidata for information about the years of life of authors of articles, URLs of web pages with information about articles and their authors. The results of the several digital collections formation, which are included in the digital library Lobachevskii-DML, are presented.

Abstract:
This study delves into the impact of Brazilian academic research on policymaking by analyzing citations in academic and policy document databases (2002 to 2022). Employing Scopus and Overton databases, we identified 2,258 studies that mentioned Brazil in the abstract field and prioritized 487 research papers cited by Brazilian policy sources. A key finding was the emergence of the Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada (IPEA) as a dominant source, indicating its pivotal role in shaping Brazilian policymaking. Our multivariate analysis revealed a significant correlation between citations in Scopus and policy documents. At the same time, our negative binomial regression highlighted the influence of economics and finance studies on policy citations, emphasizing academic popularity over publication timing.

Clyde, Greiner Woodward. L51818 Microtunneling Design Guidelines for the Gas Transmission Industry. Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI), 2000. http://dx.doi.org/10.55274/r0010297.

Full text
Abstract:
Microtunneling is an underground method of constructing pipelines using a sophisticated, remotely controlled, laser guided, steerable boring machine to install a pipe or casing using pipe jacking techniques. The line can either be installed directly by microtunneling or it can be installed inside a casing that is installed using microtunneling methods. This report discusses the following key topics relative to the design of a pipeline to be installed using microtunneling methods: Microtunneling methods and equipment. Case histories of similar pipelines installed using microtunneling methods. Project planning considerations. Geotechnical investigation and laboratory testing recommendations. Microtunneling design considerations. Design criteria for casings and jacking pipes. Shaft design considerations for jacking and receiving pits. Contract documents and contracting approaches. Guidelines for developing preliminary construction cost estimates. Recommendations for construction monitoring. This report contains comprehensive design guidelines in sufficient detail to address the design considerations typically involved with a routine microtunneling project. Use of these guidelines will result in the most cost effective microtunneling design and minimize costs and risks to your microtunneling project. The numerous references cited should be consulted for additional information when needed.

Whitfield, Paula, Jenny Davis, Amanda Tritinger, et al. Swan Island : monitoring and adaptive management plan. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/45044.

Full text
Abstract:
Swan Island is a 10.12 ha island located in the Maryland waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Because of its value as a natural wave break for the town of Ewell on nearby Smith Island, as well as the ongoing erosion and subsidence of the island, in 2019 US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)–Baltimore District placed 45,873 m³ of dredged sediment and planted 200,000 marsh plants. This restoration provided an opportunity to quantify the engineering (that is, resilience) and ecological performance of the island, postplacement. The lack of quantitative data on the performance of natural features such as islands has led to perceived uncertainties that are often cited as barriers to implementation. To address these data gaps, a multidisciplinary collaboration of five government entities identified project objectives and monitoring parameters through a series of mediated workshops and then developed a conceptual model to articulate those parameters and the linkages between them. This monitoring and adaptive management plan (MAMP) documents those monitoring parameters and procedures and can serve as an example for other scales, regions, and research questions. Documenting research and monitoring efforts may help to foster widespread acceptance of nature-based solutions such as islands.

Abstract:
While there are multiple discussions regarding what HSS is, the most popular and cited definition is that of the World Health Organization (WHO). It says: “HSS is the process of identifying and implementing the changes in policy and practice in a country’s health system, so that the country can respond better to its health and health system challenges. Additionally, it is also an array of initiatives and strategies that improves one or more of the functions of the health system and that leads to better health through improvements in access, coverage, quality, or efficiency” (WHO, 2019, p. 11). Scope of this rapid review: The aim of this rapid review is to provide a rapid synthesis of the different frameworks and approaches that have been designed and proposed for HSS. The synthesis includes frameworks conceptualised by international development and health agencies as well as those proposed by individual researchers and smaller organisations. While there are multiple frameworks, many of these frameworks build upon the WHO (2007) HSS framework and adapt this as per their needs and perspectives. Furthermore, considering the shake-up of health systems due to the COVID 19 pandemic, this review also includes frameworks which have reconceptualised HSS in response to the pandemic’s impact on health systems. Key findings: The rapid review found that a multitude of HSS frameworks exist in the public health literature. Some of these frameworks are modified from the WHO (2007) building blocks frameworks or use this framework as a basic conceptual foundation to propose new frameworks. Furthermore, there is some conflation of health systems frameworks and HSS frameworks in the literature. This review, however, has focused specifically on HSS frameworks. Evidence base: The frameworks and approaches were extracted from agency documents, journal articles and grey literature.

Abstract:
The fisheries sector in Kenya can develop more sustainably and raise revenue. However, fish stocks are overexploited, and the sector generates little revenue for its management and development. Fisheries employ 1.6 million people, contribute 2 per cent of total foreign exchange earnings through exports and fishing agreements, and absorb rural labour. The sector needs more effective management to strengthen economic opportunities – revenue collected from it should be reinvested into fisheries to build its institutions. There is now an opportunity for change. The implementing regulation for the 2016 Fisheries Management and Development Act (2016 Act) was officially adopted in summer 2024. This paper explores how the Kenyan government can use this momentum, and utilise taxation as a tool for both sustainable development of fisheries and raising revenue. Our research included a review of guiding legal documents, in-depth interviews, and analysis of data on domestic taxes.

Siebenaler, Walter, and Brysch. PR-015-123741-R01 Alternatives to Current Leak Detection Approaches for Hydrotesting. Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI), 2014. http://dx.doi.org/10.55274/r0010526.

Full text
Abstract:
Hydrotesting is a key component of pipeline integrity management. This testing is one of the primary methods used by pipeline operators during the commissioning process of a line segment. Hydrotesting is also used to validate the maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP) of existing pipelines. One element of this test is to identify water leaks in a timely fashion so that they can be fixed before the pipeline is returned to service. The most commonly-cited method for leak detection during hydrotesting is the use of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) as a tracer compound. This tracer is a powerful greenhouse gas and, thus, a project was initiated to determine if alternate means of leak detection are available for this application. Based on the concerns of pipeline operators, PRCI initiated a project to identify and explore possible alternatives to the use of SF6. These alternatives could be in the form of an alternative tracer compound or through the use of a different leak detection technology. The objectives of the project were to identify possible alternate technologies and then to choose two or three for further exploration after a tradeoff study was performed to grade each technology against a set of requirements. This document provides final reporting for this project.
