Abstract:
In this paper is given an empirical analysis of the sources and the citing quality in the example of the Matica Srpska Social Science Quarterly in 2010. After the methodological notes, in the first part of the paper was considered the structure of citings, according to the informal classification (books, newspaper articles, proceedings papers, statistical sources and so on). Then, due to its importance, the citing structure of newspaper articles has been presented separately. In the second part of the paper special attention was drawn to the quality and reliability of citings in analyzed articles, where numerous flaws and deficiencies were pointed out. Those flaws relativize significantly the construction and use of the appropriate indicators for further scientometric analysis.

Background: The two main bibliometric databases, namely Web of Science and Scopus, are not available for free, whereas the Dimensions is one of the new freely available bibliometric databases and is considered to be an alternative to Scopus in particular. Objectives: To compare the information on citations to articles published in European Science Editing as available in the Dimensions to that available in Scopus. Methods: Information on articles published in European Science Editing that were cited in sources published between 2020 and 2022 was analysed to compare the relevant data as given by Dimensions and Scopus. Results: Both databases were similar in terms of the number of cited articles, the number of citing articles, and the number of citations. Of the total of 35 cited articles, 3 were unique to each of the 2 databases. Of the total of 93 citing articles, 74 were found in Scopus and 75 in the Dimensions. Conclusions: Scopus and Dimensions shared an overlap of 84% in articles cited but of only 60% in the citing articles. Information on individual citing articles strongly suggests that Dimensions takes data on citing articles from CrossRef. Unfortunately, these metadata contain errors. Data on citations in the Dimension database could be made more accurate if the references appended to the citing articles listed in the Crossref database were under an open license.

Abstract:
Background: The hypothesis that bipolar disorder presents before puberty with atypical mania has proved to be controversial. Published academic perspectives on the validity of Paediatric Bipolar Disorder (PBD) appear to vary between the United States and the rest of the world. Methods: We examined the perspectives of articles citing four seminal articles. The citing articles were grouped as either supportive or non-supportive of the PBD hypothesis, and the perspectives of the articles by US authors were compared with those by non-US authors. Results: There were 787 citing articles commenting on PBD, mostly published in US-based journals. Most authors were affiliated with several US institutions. Among the 624 articles with US authorship, the majority (83%) supported PBD. Of the 163 articles by non-US authors, most (60%) supported the traditional view that bipolar disorders are rare before mid-adolescence. Published academic perspectives in favour of the PBD hypothesis are mostly concentrated in several US institutions. Conclusion: There is majority support for PBD among citing articles from the United States, whereas the traditional perspective predominates in articles from most other countries.

Abstract:
Exemplary for other than English-language psychology journals, the impact of recent Anglicization of five former German-language psychology journals on (1) authorship (nationality, i.e., native language, and number of authors, i.e., single or multiple authorships), (2) formal characteristics of the journal (number of articles per volume and length of articles), and (3) number of citations of the articles in other journal articles, the language of the citing publications, and the impact factors (IF) is analyzed. Scientometric data on these variables are gathered for all articles published in the four years before anglicizing and in the four years after anglicizing the same journal. Results reveal rather quick changes: Citations per year since original articles’ publication increase significantly, and the IF of the journals go up markedly. Frequencies of citing in German-language journals decrease, citing in English-language journals increase significantly after the Anglicization of former German-language psychology journals, and there is a general trend of increasing citations in other languages as well. Side effects of anglicizing former German-language psychology journals include the publication of shorter papers, their availability to a more international authorship, and a slight, but significant increase in multiple authorships.

Abstract:
Objective – To quantify the value of librarianship and information science (LIS) exports knowledge to other subject disciplines. Design – Bibliometric study. Setting – LIS departments in U.K. universities. Subjects – 232 LIS research articles published between 2001 and 2007. Methods – Data from the 2008 U.K. Research Assessment Exercise were checked to identify 405 research articles submitted by 10 selected university departments (out of a total of 21), which submitted research in the LIS category. The Web of Science database was then searched to see how many of these articles had been cited in other articles (n=232). If the citing article was published in a non-LIS journal it was considered a knowledge export. Journals were defined as non-LIS if they had not been assigned the subject category of Information Science & Library Science by the Journal of Citation Reports. The journal Impact Factors (IFs) of citing journals were then normalized to measure the value of individual knowledge exports to their respective subject disciplines. This was done by comparing a citing journal’s IF with the median journal IF within that subject category. If the citing journal’s IF was above this median it was considered to be a valuable knowledge export. Main Results – The sample of LIS research articles produced a total of 1,061 knowledge exports in 444 unique non-LIS journals. These non-LIS journals covered 146 unique subject categories of which those related to computer science and chemistry/pharmacology cited LIS research with the greatest frequency. Just over three-quarters (n=798) of these citations were considered to be valuable knowledge exports. A sub-analysis showed that LIS articles published in non-LIS journals were significantly more valuable than the knowledge exports published in LIS journals. Conclusion – The validity of bibliometric studies can be improved by adopting the two methodological innovations presented in this study. The first innovation is to avoid over-estimating the number of knowledge exports by discounting “part exports” (i.e., where the citing journal is assigned to multiple subject categories, one of which includes the same as that of the cited reference). The second innovation introduced by this study is to add an extra dimension to the analysis by measuring the value of each knowledge export by taking into account the “normalized” impact factor of citing journals.

Abstract:
As the fifth most visited website on the internet today, the user-generated encyclopaedia Wikipedia has attracted significant attention from researchers based across the academic disciplines. However, this previous work has generally neglected the multilingual aspects of the encyclopaedia, and downplayed the significance of translation within the collaborative processes of content creation that take place within the platform. Consequently, this doctoral thesis has set out to investigate the people and practices involved in the co-production and dissemination of knowledge across linguistic and cultural borders in the context of Wikipedia. By developing an analytical approach that combines narrative theory (Baker 2006) with insights drawn from the work of Henri Lefebvre (1974/1991) and Michel Foucault (1967/1986), I have examined the construction of 27 city-related articles published within the English- and French-language editions of the platform. This analysis has shown that Wikipedia volunteers make abundant use of source materials published in a diversity of languages other than that in which they are writing, and that the creation of these encyclopaedic articles involves a wide range of partly overlapping multilingual activities, a complex combination of translating, re-contextualising, summarising and synthesising. My study has also brought to light the multi-faceted negotiations that occur between the different participants involved in these processes of intersubjective knowledge production. This has drawn attention to Wikipedia as a space of discordant juxtaposition and creative simultaneity, and foregrounded the cacophony of opposing narrative positionings present within each article-focused community of multilingual produsers.

Abstract:
The Health Internetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI) and the Access to Global Online Resources in Agriculture (AGORA) programs provide free access to academic journals through the internet to researchers in the developing world. The objective of the programs is to engage researchers in the scholarly communication process through the scholarly use of these journals. A measure of scholarly use of a journal by a researcher is the number of times the journal is cited by that researcher. A citation study was conducted to explore the patterns of use of these journals by researchers in eligible countries. Bibliographic data for citations made by researchers from 108 eligible countries for each year from 2000-2007 were downloaded from the Science Citation Index and the Social Science Citation Index. The citation data were matched against HINARI and AGORA title lists in a database developed for this purpose. The frequency of citations made to journals in the AGORA and HINARI collections and the annual percent change in the frequency of these citations were analyzed for suggestions that the programs positively impacted the scholarly use of the journals by these researchers. The data treatment for each country, sub-region and region was guided by twelve research questions. Results were summarized and interpreted at the regional level. The data suggests that for some geographic groups, life science and agricultural researchers have become more engaged in formal scholarly communication since the initiation of the HINARI and AGORA programs and at a greater average percent change than other researchers. However, data for other geographic groups suggest that their researchers have not become more engaged in the scholarly communication process. Further research that couples these findings with other data will lend explanatory power to the results and inform future program planning for HINARI and AGORA.

Abstract:
AbstractScience, Technology, and Innovation play a crucial role in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 (SF DRR). The International Consortium on Landslides (ICL) initiated the Sendai Landslide Partnerships 2015–2025 as a voluntary commitment to SF DRR. In 2020, the ICL launched the Kyoto 2020 Commitment for Global Promotion of Understanding and Reducing Landslide Disaster Risk (KLC 2020) as a follow-up of the Sendai Landslide Partnerships 2015–2025. Closely related to the above-mentioned Innovation are patents as a form of intellectual property rights and are often used as an innovation assessment parameter. This article reports on a study conducted to look at the patent documents that are available in open-access databases in order to evaluate how well they relate to the field of landslide research and technology. Landslide-related patent documents were extracted using different search terms in the patent document titles, abstracts, claims and/or their general text from the Google Patents, using the Espacenet tools from the European Patent Office, and the Derwent Patent Index inside the Web of Science offered by Clarivate Analytics, respectively. The extracted patent documents were analyzed with regard to the applicant respectively inventor affiliation (academic, non-academic, country of affiliation) and to the technical field of a patent using well-known patent classifications. The most active countries claiming landslide-related patents were recognized. Furthermore, review and research articles in SpringerLink and SCOPUS databases were searched to study how often scientific articles are citing landslide-related patents. The results of the study can be summarized as follow: (i) in the Google Patents database there are 15,000 + landslide-related patent documents, and in the Espacenet and the Derwent Innovation index database 5000+, respectively. In the patents titles, abstracts, and claims, processes are more often used to describe the patent than the technology; (ii) the number of technological (non-science) based patents is higher than that of academic (science-based) patents, with some specific field of applications, where the situation is the opposite; (iii) with regard to the different areas of technology to which landslide-related patent documents pertain, the categories “G-Physics” and “E-Fixed constructions” are clearly prevailing: “G” for debris flows and landslides, and “E” for fallings rocks and mudflows; (iv) the majority of landslide-related patents are filled and/or granted in China, followed by Japan and South Korea, USA and EU member countries—five major emerging economies (called BRICS) are outperforming developed countries, with a very prevailing Chinese contribution; (v) only a fraction of the order of a few one-in-thousands of landslide-related patents documents are cited in journal review and research articles.

Abstract:
AbstractThe increasing popularity of the bicycle, coupled with the emerging new micromobility solutions, such as personal electric micro-vehicles or sharing systems, calls for renewed attention to the smart urban and transport planning strategy advocated by the conventional Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model. These personal and shared mobility devices constitute an opportunity to enhance accessibility to the public transport network, leading to a TOD vision revisited by the contribution of individual light modes. Given the relatively recent and extensive documentation related to micromobility and public transport integration, a systematic literature review was undertaken to reflect the state of research literature on the redefinition of the TOD perimeter by micromobility, with a focus on the European context. Nineteen of the 3955 articles recorded met the inclusion criteria specified in the methodology protocol. The analyzed papers clearly highlight TOD boundaries extended to about 3 km, suggesting the redistribution of variables toward residential and cycling-friendly areas beyond the first walking kilometer. This chapter uncovers gaps in existing academic literature, with the near absence of Eastern and Southern Europe case studies, innovative micromobility options such as private or shared electric bikes and scooters, impact assessment on neighborhoods, and the application of qualitative research methods.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article explores the innovative integration of water-sensitive design in public spaces as a strategy for enhancing climate resilience in Bucaramanga, Colombia. It focuses on the city’s Public Parks Program, which aims to transform underutilized areas into multifunctional green spaces that effectively manage water resources while promoting community engagement. As urban areas face increasing challenges from climate change, such as flooding and water scarcity, this initiative serves as a case study in utilizing nature-based solutions to mitigate environmental risks. The research highlights the program’s design principles, which prioritize the incorporation of sustainable drainage systems, permeable surfaces, and native vegetation to improve stormwater management and enhance biodiversity. By analyzing various parks within the program, the article illustrates how these designs not only reduce urban heat and improve air quality but also foster social cohesion and community well-being. Community activation efforts, including workshops and participatory planning, are examined, demonstrating the importance of local involvement in the design process and the creation of spaces that reflect the needs and values of residents. Key findings reveal that water-sensitive public spaces can significantly contribute to climate adaptation by improving urban resilience, enhancing aesthetic value, and promoting inclusive community interaction. This article ultimately advocates for the scaling of such initiatives in similar urban contexts, arguing that strategic design and community engagement are essential for building climate-resilient cities.

AbstractWe assume in this article that the geographical location and special international role of the Suez Canal had and still has great potential for strengthening the Egyptian economy in general and for the development of the Canal area in particular. We find that, despite the very large gap discovered between expectations and reality, there are achievements to point to: The Canal is an unusually important source of income for Egypt, the construction of the Canal led to the establishment of three major cities, in the three Canal cities, new industrial areas have been established, accompanied by modern infrastructure, along the cities, modern bridges and tunnels have been built that effectively connect the West and East banks of the Canal, and Egypt has invested tremendous efforts in agricultural development of all periphery areas. The Canal area has received special treatment. There is a new five-year plan for the development of the area, a plan in which large investments are made in the area with high expectations.

Abstract:
Purpose – the implementation of eco-innovation practices is observed in the micro-level of the company and the integration of these practices with the overall firm’s strategy is inevitable. We set forth to investigate at what level the field of eco-innovation strategies has been studied at the firm-level. Research methodology – a review of the most influential articles in the field of eco-innovation strategies was conducted. A total of 929 scientific publications included in Web of Science (WoS) (Clarivate Analytics) database between 1990 and 2020 were taken into consideration. Findings – the results of this study reveal the following: (1) the increasing trend of publications in the field of eco-in- novation strategies; (2) the most influential articles related to the topic; (3) the gaps of extant research and future research directions. Research limitations – this study uses citations as a measure of influence which might be deceptive due to the fact that some authors might be citing themselves and / or citing publications in a negative context. Practical implications – findings provide relevant insights about the input and the output of eco-innovation strategies and serves as a guide for researchers and practitioners exploring eco-innovation strategies. Originality/Value – this study enhances the body of knowledge on the field of eco-innovation strategies. This is the first study, which investigates the scientific publications related to firm-level eco-innovation strategies and develops an operative conceptual model for future studies.

Abstract:
A reverse bibliography, i.e. a list of referring publications – is a dynamically compiled list of works published after the publication in question and contained a reference to it. Leading publishers of scientific journals, as a rule, post lists of referring publications on the web pages of their articles. In Russia, the placement of lists of citing publications has not yet become the norm, but it is gradually becoming widespread. The reverse bibliography is extremely interesting to the reader since it allows you to find out in which direction the research presented in the original edition is developing. A traditional bibliography, i.e. an ordinary bibliographic list of references, can successfully exist both in a printed publication and online. In contrast, the list of referring publications is essentially an exclusively online, dynamic structure formed “on the fly” on the screen of an online reader. The list of referring publications always brings the reader a fresh current state of accumulated bibliographic data. Publications appearing on the Internet and indexed in bibliographic databases containing a link to the scientific work in question in their bibliography are reflected here almost immediately. The implementation of the list of referring publications in a number of characteristic projects is considered. The terminology used is discussed.

Abstract:
This paper presents a study of bibliographical references cited in articles published by MathNet.Ru journals. Based on data obtained from mathematical portal Math-Net.Ru, we built a journals citation graph, with its vertices denoting journals, and edges representing bibliographical references (citations) between papers published in these journals. To increase the reliability of the constructed graph, we chose a 2010-2021 citation time interval, when distribution of citing papers (papers that have cited other works) had stabilized at 3500-4500 citations per year. The structure of citation ageing is investigated; it is shown that the half-life of these citations is 8 years. So, the publication date of cited papers (papers that have been cited by other works) was limited to the year 2002. The constructed citation graph was found to have a small diameter and high density, indicating that there is a high level of research collaboration in Math-Net.Ru. It is shown that there is no Matthew effect as a pronounced advantage in the citations of leading journals in relation to less well-known ones. The adequacy of the Math-Net.Ru journal citation graph as a scientific collaboration model is confirmed by comparing the ranking of journals included the citation graph with their Science Index ranking in scientific electronic library eLIBRARY.RU. The two rankings were found to have a direct moderate relationship between themselves. A number of substantive conclusions are drawn from analysis of the citation graph.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to carry out a theoretical and investigative deepening on the relationship of sustainable cities in the quality of life in the elderly. This article is a systematic review of studies published between 2017 and 2022 in the following databases: CAPES-collections journal (CAPES) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo) PubMed, Medline, Lilacs, Scopus. A search was carried out, 1825 articles were identified and 8 articles included in this research were selected, in which they tell us the real influence and the investigative theoretical deepening of sustainable cities on the quality of life of the elderly. These were categorized in relation to the authors, year of publication, theme addressed, objectives, type of instrument used, description of goals and incorporation of objectives to investigate the main results of the studies, especially those related to the quality of life in the elderly, also including SDG 3 and the possibility of Brazil having sustainable cities to improve this public. However, it is concluded that there is still much to improve if talking about sustainable cities and quality of life in the third region, there is a lack of many structures for the elderly to have better mobility and safety in their daily commutes, it is up to the rulers to try to improve the paving conditions, especially in cities that claim to be sustainable, only then can a better experience with the elderly public be framed.

Melnyk, Yuriy. Academic Journal Website Model. KRPOCH, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.26697/preprint.melnyk.1.2018.

Full text
Abstract:
Background: The tens of thousands of academic journal websites that are on the Internet today often do not have a clear organizational structure for their website. If most of them are convenient enough for readers (if the journal is open access), then many have problems informing authors about the conditions, the process of submitting and reviewing the manuscript. The Editorial Offices empirically populate the journal's website with content that can change dramatically (both in terms of website design and content) as the journal develops. Aim of Study: To develop a website model for an academic journal that takes into account the basic requirements for the preparation, publication, and archiving of high quality scientific manuscripts. Material and Methods: The academic journal website model is based on a structural-functional approach. The website content consists of text and integrated applications. This model takes into account the basic requirements for the preparation, publication, and archiving of high-quality open access scientific manuscripts, as well as the indexing of journal articles by leading indexing agencies. Results: The academic journal website model is structured with the following menu and submenu elements: 1. HOME: 1.1. Journal information; 1.2. From the editorial office; 1.3. Databases, Indexing; 2. EDITORIAL BOARD: 2.1. Editorial board; 2.2. Reviewers; 2.3. Editing and reviewing process; 3. EDITORIAL POLICIES: 3.1. Editorial policies; 3.2. Plagiarism policy; 3.3. Open access policy; 3.4. The ethics codex of scientific publications; 3.5. Disclaimer; 3.6. License terms; 3.7. Terms of publications (fee); 4. ARCHIV: 4.1. Previous issues; 4.2. Current issue; 4.3. Articles online first; 5. INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS: 5.1. General recommendations; 5.2. Manuscript templates; 5.3. Supplemental materials; 6. STATISTICS: 6.1. Publications; 6.2. Authors; 6.3. Readers; 7. CONTACTS: 7.1. Contact; 7.2. Subscriptions; 7.3. Search. Conclusions: This academic journal website model was implemented for the International Journal of Science Annals (IJSA). Authors and readers of IJSA noted the advantages of the model proposed by the author, including: a convenient and understandable website interface, the availability of the necessary hyperlinks to the pages of the journal's website and external media (sites of indexed agencies, library archives, etc.), convenient search for information on the website and published in the journal articles (by author, publication, text of the article), availability of integrated applications (online submission of manuscripts, filing appeals against the decision of reviewers and complaints about published articles, viewing the interactive printed version of the journal, etc.), availability of templates (for authors, reviewers), availability of multiple formats for archiving articles (PDF, DOAJ, XML, TXT), the ability to choose the style of citing the article and the website language (English, Ukrainian), etc. Keywords: journal, model, website, academic, indexing

Abstract:
This book explores how Asia’s fast-growing cities can fulfil their potential as engines of economic prosperity and provide a livable environment for all citizens. But for this to happen, major challenges that reduce urban communities’ quality of life and economic opportunities must be addressed. These include poor planning, a lack of affordable housing, inequalities, pollution, climate vulnerabilities, and urban infrastructure deficits. The book’s 19 articles unwrap these challenges and present solutions focused on smart and inclusive planning, sustainable transport and energy, innovative financing, and resilience and rejuvenation.

Full text
Abstract:
In this article, the authors propose that California’s Seal of Biliteracy for high school seniors can serve as an exemplar to advocate for the continued development of bilingual skills in university, graduate-level students—and counseling students in particular. Citing literature that points to the need for linguistic diversity among counselors in school and community agencies, the authors describe the efforts taken by the Counseling Program in the School of Education at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in partnership with LMU’s Center for Equity for English Learners to address the need. Their pilot of a Certificate of Bilingual Counseling in Fieldwork (CBC-F) involved the development and testing of proficiency rubrics that adhered to current standards for teaching foreign languages and simultaneously measured professional competencies in counseling. Results of the CBC-F pilot with five female Latina students in the counseling program at LMU in the spring of 2017 appeared promising and were described in detail. These findings have implications for preparing and certifying professionals in other fields with linguistic and cultural competencies in response to current demographic shifts.

Full text
Abstract:
Numerous studies have emerged so far on Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2) across different disciplines. There is virtually no facet of human experience and relationships that have not been studied. In Nigeria, these studies include knowledge and attitude, risk perception, public perception of Covid-19 management, e-learning, palliatives, precautionary behaviours etc.,, Studies have also been carried out on public framing of Covid-19 discourses in Nigeria; these have explored both offline and online messaging and issues from the perspectives of citizens towards government’s policy responses such as palliative distributions, social distancing and lockdown. The investigators of these thematic concerns deployed different methodological tools in their studies. These tools include policy evaluations, content analysis, sentiment analysis, discourse analysis, survey questionnaires, focus group discussions, in depth-interviews as well as machine learning., These studies nearly always focus on the national government policy response, with little or no focus on the constituent states. In many of the studies, the researchers work with newspaper articles for analysis of public opinions while others use social media generated contents such as tweets) as sources for analysis of sentiments and opinions. Although there are others who rely on the use of survey questionnaires and other tools outlined above; the limitations of these approaches necessitated the research plan adopted by this study. Most of the social media users in Nigeria are domiciled in cities and their demography comprises the middle class (socio-economic) who are more likely to be literate with access to internet technologies. Hence, the opinions of a majority of the population who are most likely rural dwellers with limited access to internet technologies are very often excluded. This is not in any way to disparage social media content analysis findings; because the opinions expressed by opinion leaders usually represent the larger subset of opinions prevalent in the society. Analysing public perception using questionnaires is also fraught with its challenges, as well as reliance on newspaper articles. A lot of the newspapers and news media organisations in Nigeria are politically hinged; some of them have active politicians and their associates as their proprietors. Getting unbiased opinions from these sources might be difficult. The news articles are also most likely to reflect and amplify official positions through press releases and interviews which usually privilege elite actors. These gaps motivated this collaboration between Ekiti State Government and the African Leadership Centre at King’s College London to embark on research that will primarily assess public perceptions of government leadership response to Covid-19 in Ekiti State. The timeframe of the study covers the first phase of the pandemic in Ekiti State (March/April to August 2020).

Nosova, Olga. Structural Changes and the Ukrainian Labour Market Organisation. Publishing House - Vilnius Business College, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.57005/ab.2023.1.1.

Full text
Abstract:
The article aims to analyze the structural changes and the Ukrainian labor market organization in the condition of military aggression against Ukraine. The Ukrainian economy encounters the devastating destructions and losses of economic entities, enormous capital, and labor under the effect of military aggression. Structural changes include a change in the industrial structure of production, the destruction of large enterprises, and supply chains, the loss of part of the labor force, and fluctuations between skilled and unskilled jobs. Thus, SMEs in the service sector suffer due to the reduction of the population in cities, which causes both a reduction in demand for certain types of services (hotel and restaurant business, beauty salons, providers of extracurricular educational services, etc.) and a reduction in the supply of highly qualified specialists (IT sector, experts in financial, design and consulting services). Small business because of the war feels caught between the minimum possible sale of their products and reduced demand. The basic research questions are identifying and estimating the urgent needs of the labor market and capital. It will be directed to define sectors that can speed up the process of rebuilding the economy. Diversifying the economy, increasing product/service sophistication, using comparative advantages and transfer of resources (both labor and capital) leads to more productive activities and a rise in well-being.
