Abstract:
The authors of the collective monograph set themselves the goal of understanding the nature of the absolute in law, through which its value dimension is revealed. In the history of philosophical and legal thought, this understanding of the essence of law was mainly realized through its correlation with the highest moral idea, primarily in the forms of the idea of absolute goodness and the idea of justice. From this point of view, the teachings of Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Marsilius of Padua, Jean Bodin, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Niccolo Machiavelli, Hugo Grotius, Spinoza, Kant, Hegel, Solo

The crisis parameters of the development of the ukrainian-russian border society are analyzed in the coordinates of the civilizational borderland, marked by the "intersection" of controversial socio-cultural markers, identification matrices, local values, meanings and symbols. Using the conceptual principles of transitology, the strategies of social transformations and cultural practices in the border space, the mechanisms of identification confrontations and mental confrontations are considered. Nearly three decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall, early hopes for the integration of the post-Soviet states into a “Europe whole and free” seem to have been decisively dashed. Europe itself is in the midst of a multifaceted crisis that threatens the considerable gains of the postwar liberal European experiment. This book provides a panoramic view of the process of “Europeanization” in Russia and all fourteen of the other former Soviet republics since 1989, in a study that is both theoretically grounded (with five chapters that discuss the historical and contemporary meanings of “Europe”

Abstract:
The responsibility to protect (R2P) will soon face significant stress. As a perceived Western value, it could suffer as Western power recedes. It could also be undermined by Western double standards towards multilateral institutions and processes. To survive, R2P must be embraced by non-Western civilizations. They can do this by demonstrating that their civilizations share common values with the West, common values which actually have deep roots in the East. This chapter argues that since the sanctity of human life is a universal value, R2P could be embraced by other civilizations and survive.

Abstract:
How should India’s rise be understood in the framework of international relations and a changing global order? This chapter assesses India’s jostle for an advantageous position on the world stage through three sets of lenses: the attempt to voice the civilizational values of a nascent nation; the expressions of the economic and developmental needs of a poor citizenry; and the self-professed aims and pursuits of the interests of a sovereign state. It then outlines some of the challenges in defining India’s international position, and explores possible means through which these can be navigated.

Bull argued that in European international society, the ‘diplomatic culture’, the common stock of ideas and values the representatives of states shared had been strengthened by an ‘international political culture’, the intellectual and moral culture that determined societal attitudes towards the states-system. With the expansion of international society, he contended, the diplomatic culture had lost much of its earlier foundation in the normative commitments specific to European international society. It was conceivable, Bull argued, that a new ‘cosmopolitan culture’ will succeed in binding pe
