Abstract:
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has been shown to reduce inflammation via Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor (PPAR)-γ in inflammatory disorders such as Crohn's Disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. We sought to determine whether CLA isomers would reduce inflammation via PPAR-γ in cultured mesangial cells, and in murine models of anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) glomerulonephritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). SV40-transformed mouse mesangial cells (MES13) were cultured with pure CLA isomers (c9,t11 or t10,c12-CLA or a 50:50 mixture prior to immune stimulation wit

Abstract:
Structured phospholipids with functional ingredients like conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and plant sterols to deliver their physiological effects in different food formulations were synthesized. The lipase and phospholipase A2 catalyzed enzymatic acidolysis reaction between phospholipids (PLs) and CLA was used for fatty acid modification, while the phospholipase D catalyzed transphosphatidylation reaction between PLs and sterol was used for head group modification. Enzymatic processes were an effective way to produce structured phospholipids. Screening of four lipases and immobilized phospholi

Flowers, Margaret. "In Vitro and In Vivo Effects of Conjugated Linoleic Acid on Mammary Tumorigenesis." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/195806.

Abstract:
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) exhibits multiple biological and molecular activities that have made it the subject of considerable nutrition-related research. Numerous studies support broad acting anti-tumor effects including anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferation, and pro-apoptosis in a variety of model systems. CLA’s ability to influence multiple tumor promoting pathways, without toxicity, may prove valuable in the chemoprevention of breast cancer. The overall objective of this dissertation research was to investigate the potential of CLA in the chemoprevention of breast cancer in a subgroup
