Abstract:

There are numerous pygmy grasshoppers (Tetrigidae) that exhibit leaf-like appearance. Leaf-mimic species can be found mainly in the subfamily Cladonotinae (tribes Cladonotini, Xerophyllini). Two leaf-mimic pygmy grasshopper species found in India, Pakistan (Oxyphyllum pennatum Hancock, 1909) and Borneo (Paraphyllum antennatum Hancock, 1913) are the only macropterous leaf-like species of Asia and were traditionally assigned to subfamily Cladonotinae. New tribe Epitettigini trib. n. is proposed for five genera with uncertain tribal position within subfamily Cladonotinae. Abstract:

Wide nosed pygmy grasshoppers (Tetrigidae: Cladonotinae) are grasshoppers in which the frontal costa bifurcates into strongly divergent facial carinae, between which there is wide scutellum. Altogether seven genera and thirteen species inhabit India and Sri Lanka. Tribe Cladonotini is represented in this region by five genera and nine species (Cladonotus—4 spp., Deltonotus—2 spp., Gignotettix—1 sp., Hancockella—1 sp., and Yunnantettix—1 sp.), while the tribe Xerophyllini by two genera, Tettilobus (3 sp.) and Potua (1 sp.). Abstract:

The paper describes a new species of a Sri Lankan twighopper, genus Cladonotus Saussure, 1862 (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae: Cladonotini), C. bhaskari sp. n., based on a single female specimen collected and photographed by T. Kirschey in 2016 in Sinharaja rainforest (SW Sri Lanka). The new species is clearly distinguished from other species of the genus by its long and spine-like frontomedial projection and cockscomb-shaped promedial projection. A new genus and a new species of Cladonotinae (Orthoptera: Tetrigidae) is described from Mount Malindang in Mindanao, Philippines: Fartmanntettix undulatus Tan & Tumbrinck, gen. et sp. nov. Tentatively, we classify this new genus under the tribe Trusmaditetrigini Storozhenko, 2023 consisting of eight genera (including the new genus described here). This new genus is characterised from other representatives of the tribe by the distinctly undulated and raised carinae on the pronotum and femora. A key to the genera of the tribe is also provided.

Abstract:

The genus Tondanotettix C. Willemse, 1928 includes two species endemic to Sulawesi Island (Indonesia). The third species, T. doloduo sp. n., is described from northeast part of this island. Tondanotettix is most similar to the genus Hyboella Hancock, 1915 (Metrodorinae) but differs from latter in the arch-like infrascapular area and a deeply excised apex of pronotal process. Therefore Tondanotettix is transferred here from subfamily Cladonotinae to subfamily Metrodorinae. An annotated list and a key to species and subspecies of this genus are provided also.

Two new species, Yunnantettix nanensis sp. nov. and Yunnantettix variabilis sp. nov. are described from Thailand, and current knowledge on their ecology and habits are presented. Generic characteristics of Yunnantettix are updated according to all known species, and a precise key to all known species of the genus is given. Yunnantettix and its allied genera are compared, which clarifies diagnostically valuable characters. Morphology of the wings covered by pronotum is analyzed.
