Abstract:
Based on the analysis of legislation, the results of scientific research, materials of judicial and entrepreneurial practice, the content and features of pre-trial (claim) work of hotel organizations with consumers are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the need to comply with both procedural (regulatory) and procedural rules for the implementation of the pre-trial procedure for resolving disputes. Conclusions are drawn about the significance of the claim procedure for resolving disputes for consumers and hotel organizations, directions for further pre-trial (claim) work of hotel organi

In 1986, British Columbia’s Workers’ Compensation Board introduced an experience rating program that provided a modest financial incentive for employers to reduce the costs of claims. Using a comprehensive panel data set, we find that claims frequency for health care only and short-term disability claims was reduced following the introduction of experience rating. The introduction of the program did not affect costs for most claim types, except for health care only claims.

The majority of bonus-malus systems (BMS) determine the premium for each policyholder solely based on their claim frequency. Adopting this method would be unjust. A driver who files a claim for small damage cannot be subjected to the same penalties as a driver responsible for a claim involving significant damage. To achieve a balance in the portfolio between good and bad drivers, a new portion of the premium is computed as a compromise. To do this, the claim severity is created and assessed to provide a fair premium. The consideration was determined by taking into account both the quantity and

This paper introduces a recurrent claim in the literature, namely, that imperative mood universally cannot occur in dependent clauses (e.g. Sadock and Zwicky 1985, Palmer 1986, Platzack and Rosengren 1998, Han 1998). Another line of analyses argues however, that embedded imperative sentences exist in some languages. For example Rus (2005) proposes this about Slovenian on the basis of Sheppard and Golden (2002), Rögnvaldsson (1998) claims this about Old Scandinavian, Portner (2007) makes the same claim about Korean, and Crnič and Trinh (2009) about English. The first claim concerns how the body knows something prior to an operation of reason. The article interprets these claims by drawing upon Wynn's previous work in religious epistemology, and it points to its moral and doctrinal relevance for Christian ethicists today.

We observe that, although MMTS claim to be using the definition of explanation proposed by Halpern 2016, they do not quite do so. Roughly speaking, Halpern’s definition has a necessity clause and a sufficiency clause. MMTS replace the necessity clause by a requirement that, as we show, implies it. Halpern’s definition also allows agents to restrict the set of options considered. While these difference may seem minor, as we show, they can have a nontrivial impact on explanations.

Abstract:
Throughout history, technology and its evolution have significantly impacted the societal modes of production and organisation. The highest rise in technological evolution has been observed under the capitalist system. Technology has not, as of yet, proved to be capitalism’s demise. However, some believe that advances in Artificial Intelligence and automation render them radically different technologies to those of the past and will mean capitalism’s demise and the dawn of a new, postcapitalist era. This paper will assess this claim by looking at historical evidence and contemporary theoretica

Oxfam-supported enterprises have generated high impact and demonstrated strong business performance. Now, the shift to make women’s economic empowerment a more central focus and the opportunity to generate more meaningful impact has put us on track to transition towards a new enterprise investment model. In the future, more attention will be paid to the structural injustices that women face, to change enterprise practices and generate evidence to influence institutional change so that women can exercise their agency and claim their rights. Increasing the number of women in paid jobs can only b

Abstract:
Providing unemployment insurance is particularly problematic in countries with high informality because workers can claim unemployment benefits and work in the informal sector at the same time. This paper proposes a method to evaluate alternative schemes to provide insurance for unemployed individuals. First, it presents an economy that can be calibrated to reproduce key features of the economy for which the reform will be evaluated. Then, it shows how the implementation of an unemployment insurance savings account (UISA) scheme can be evaluated. The method is applied to Mexico, and the result

Abstract:
In this paper we review the literature on sovereign debt with particular emphasis on indexation and maturity and the main policy proposals related to these topics. We also advance some implications derived from our work. In Alfaro and Kanczuk (2005a, b, c), we modeled sovereign debt as a contingent claim following the framework developed by Grossman and Van Huyck (1988). Our framework, however, recognizes that contingent debt might be associated with incentive problems. Applying this framework to the study of the sustainability of sovereign debt, the tradeoff between nominal and indexed debt,

Recent evidence from Afghanistan shows that even in the most difficult contexts, women will still protest for their rights. This paper draws on evidence from the Action for Empowerment and Accountability (A4EA) research programme to show how women express their political agency and activism and seek accountability in repressive contexts. A4EA research looked at cases of women-led protest in Egypt, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Pakistan, and explored women’s political participation in Nigeria and Pakistan. The research shows that despite some success in claim-making on specific issues, ‘sticky norms

This report details the work and findings of the behavioural insights investigation undertaken as part of a wider project investigating the impact of making changes to the current MOT system in the UK. The overall aim of this work was to provide evidence on specific topics relating to possible changes to the current MOT for light vehicles to ensure that it is kept up to date with developing technologies and best practice. The focus of this behavioural insights work was to investigate both the behavioural and attitudinal response of motorists to changes to MOT scheduling, as well as to understa

Many university careers services sit structurally within the broad family of “Student Success”, but in practice, their strategic drivers often look quite different. While university student success strategies often claim to be focused on the student’s holistic journey into and through the university, then out into the world, careers services’ success in supporting students’ transition out is often reduced to data measuring and judged by the outcome of that journey in terms of work or further study after graduation (e.g., Gasevic et al., 2019; Knox, 2017). Consequently, careers services can fin

Abstract:
An influential body of scholarship argues that corruption behaves as a selffulfilling prophecy. The idea of this work is that levels of corruption emerge endogenously as a result of a society-wide coordination game in which ther individual returns to corrupt behavior are a function of how disposed towards corruption the other members of society are perceived as being. An empirical implication of this logic is that if one were to exogenously perturb beliefs about societal levels of corruption upward, willingness to engage in corruption should increase as a consequence.
