Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Argentina, the second largest country in South America is a federation of 23 provinces and its capital, the autonomous city of Buenos Aires. Its population is a little over 40 million, 50% of whom reside in its five largest metropolitan areas. The rural areas are extensively under-populated. The city of Buenos Aires and its suburb contain 15.5 million inhabitants, making it one of the largest urban areas in the world.

Abstract:
No doubt few countries in the world are as centralized as Argentina. Most important activities take place in the Capital, Buenos Aires, a giant, sprawling megalopolis of about fifteen million inhabitants. Like government and business, historical research is carried out chiefly here. Indeed, there is no shortage of libraries and archives in Buenos Aires, but it takes quite some planning to make good use of these facilities.

Abstract:
A descriptive trial of essential tremor in Buenos Aires city is proposed. It may be considered as the first one like this in Latin America. During a 15 years period, sixteen families with essential tremor diagnosis have been examined, making a total of 39 patients (20 males and 19 females). The disease was basically studied from its semiological, clinico-evolutive and therapeutical view point, following a protocol. Our results indicate - a. The clinico-evolutive characteristics: its frequency (according to race, sex, social status, age of beginning and physiopathological type), morbility and mortality, evolution, prognosis, triggering factors, longevity and multiparity. b. The different treatment given to our patients with discussion of their pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic basis and evaluation of the best responses. In this matter, it is concluded that both primidone (750 mg/daily) and/or propranolol (160-240 mg/daily) are undeniably the drugs of first choice for the treatment of this disease. A comparison of the clinico-therapeutic features of this tremor in Buenos Aires and other cities is done. The study of this syndrome in Buenos Aires does not give different results from those obtained in Europe and USA.

Abstract:
Coastal dunes habitats at Buenos Aires province are in a fragmentation and habitat loss process due to related human activities. Knowledge on the herpetofauna of Buenos Aires province coast habitats is plentiful for some species of lizards and scarce for most amphibians and snakes. With the aim to present a list on the amphibians and reptiles of the coastal dune habitats in Buenos Aires province we recorded species coming from field work, cited in literature, and vouchers specimens deposited in herpetological collections. We recorded 35 species in six sectors that represent the last remnants of coastal dunes in good conservation status. The Mar Chiquita and Faro Querandí Reserves represent an important contribution to the conservation of several species that inhabit coastal dune habitats. It is necessary to increase the knowledge on biodiversity in those habitats in order to develop conservation strategies.

Abstract:
Argentina covers an area of 3 million square kilometers, with almost one third of the population living in the capital district of Buenos Aires and the greater Buenos Aires area (the neighborhoods surrounding the capital district). Like other Latin American countries, Argentina is populated by a mixture of different ethnic cultures; however, unlike other Latin American countries, most Argentinians are of central and west European descent. People older than age 50 are mainly European immigrants or first- or second-generation Europeans. The mestizos—a fusion of Europeans and native Argentinians—are the second largest ethnic group, followed by the natives, most of whom live in the central and north part of the country. Argentinian aborigines have been largely eradicated, consisting of a small community confined to special reserves. Volga German descendants are grouped in large colonies in the central and eastern regions of the country.
