Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to document the response of a rape survivor to a treatment based on Ehlers and Clark's (2000) therapy model and to use the material to evaluate the effectiveness of this kind of therapy in the South African context. In so doing, the specific local cultural and contextual factors, which may affect the overall effectiveness of the treatment, will be highlighted and discussed.

Genetic variation is widely recognized as a major component of species biodiversity, contributing greatly to the maintenance of adaptive potential in populations and their evolutionary response to change. Despite years of study and their obvious importance to evolution and conservation biology, however, the biological processes responsible for the maintenance of genetic variation in the wild are still poorly understood. Throughout this thesis, I have attempted to describe the historical and contemporary forces contributing to the origins and maintenance of genetic variation in coastal c

Theories of Extended Mind have evolved in waves to reach the present state of disagreement with regard to whether or not external artefacts become part of the mind when used for memory purposes. A four-step approach has been used to address and resolve this disagreement. First, a new component for models of mind which provides a saliency function is provided. This saliency function corresponds to computational elements found necessary in large mainframe computer systems for handling rich data environments. Second, there is introduced a Computational Model of Memory containing the new component

The biodiversity of our planet is facing a severe crisis. Habitat alteration, climate change, the spread of alien species, and overexploitation are major drivers of biodiversity loss. These global change drivers often act jointly or even synergistically on population declines. To identify priorities for conservation, it is thus essential to compare the relative impact of different threats on biodiversity. Amphibians are the vertebrates showing both the largest proportion of threatened species and the highest rate of decline. Out of the ~6,800 amphibian species assessed by the IUCN, more than 4
