Albert Lewis Kanter launched Classic Comics in 1941, a series of comic books that retold classic literature for a young audience. Five of Shakespeare’s celebrated plays appear in the collection. The popularity of Classics Illustrated encouraged Seaboard Publishing to issue a competitive brand, Stories by Famous Authors Illustrated (1949-51), which retold three Shakespearean dramas. Although both these enterprises aimed to reinforce a humanist perspective of education based on Western literature, the classic comics belie a Posthuman aesthetic by presenting Shakespearean characters in scenes and

As with other twenty-first-century rewritings of fairytales, Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron complicates the classic ‘Cinderella’ fairytale narrative popularized by Charles Perrault and the Brothers Grimm for new audiences, queering and race-bending the tale in its decidedly feminist revision of the story. However, as we argue here, the novel also provides an interesting intervention in the construction of age as related to gender for its female protagonists. Abstract:
Previous research has found associations between classic psychedelic use and nature-relatedness, but the link between classic psychedelic use and human–animal relations remains largely unexplored. Using data representative of the US adult population, with regard to age, sex and ethnicity (N = 2822), this pre-registered study assessed lifetime classic psychedelic use, ego dissolution during respondents’ most intense experience using a classic psychedelic, and three measures related to human–animal relations: speciesism, animal solidarity and desire to help animals. The results showed that lifet

Abstract:
Fabry disease is an X-linked lysosomal disease in which defects in the alpha-galactosidase A enzyme activity lead to the ubiquitous accumulation of glycosphingolipids. Whereas the classic disease is characterized by neuropathic pain, progressive renal failure, white matter lesions, cerebral stroke, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), the non-classic phenotype, also known as cardiac variant, is almost exclusively characterized by HCM. Circulating sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) has controversially been associated with the Fabry cardiomyopathy. We measured serum S1P levels in 41 patients of the

This paper investigates the use of virtual machines for the preservation of video games. The study uses Rand and Robyn Miller’s classic adventure game ‘Myst’ (1993) as a sample record to evaluate the performance of four different emulation options for the Mac OS 9 operating system — SheepShaver, QEMU, Apple’s ‘Classic Environment’ and Yale University Library’s emulation-as-a-service-infrastructure platform. Serving as the control for the experiment, Myst is first documented running natively on an original PowerMac G4 and iMac G3 at MoMA. The native performance is then compared with each emulat

Background/Aim. The integrity of outer retinal structures, primarily the photoreceptor layer, is important because of its direct correlation with visual acuity. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), the foveal photoreceptorinner segment/outer segment (IS/OS) junction and external limiting membrane (ELM) in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (NVAMD) after the treatment with bevacizumab, as well as the correlation between the above-mentioned parameters and different types of neovascular membrane, classified b

Abstract We scholars tend to project discursive approaches and anthropocentric orientations based on our own reading habits onto the writings we study. This tendentious attitude repeatedly leads to misunderstandings and mistranslations of texts produced in communities that do not share our inclination towards these writings. I illustrate this danger by introducing the case of the Huainanzi. This massive and extraordinarily constructed classic from the second century BCE is commonly read as an encyclopedia that contains various philosophical treatises about sage rulership. I show that this stan

Background and Aims: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine disorder that affects women of reproductive age. Ultrasound morphological parameters of ovarian morphology, ovarian volume, follicle number, endometrial plate thickness, and doppler analysis are necessary for the diagnosis of PCOS. The aim of this study is to evaluate the correlation between ultrasound morphological parameters and classic and nonclassic phenotypes of PCOS in Indonesian Women. Method: A single-center, observational analytic study from May 2022 until October 2022 was performed upon 50 women with PCOS at
