Full textThis research aims to answer three questions: why do we study an ancient reception of a text, in the 21st century ? Why do texts change their meanings throughout time ? How does this occur in our case study, Marius’ life? The methodologic approach is based on Jauss’ hermeneutic ; Gramsci’s cultural hegemony ; László’s construction of cultural identity ; Hardwick’s classical reception studies ; Lausberg’s literary communities. Moreover, I propose to define cultural communities. These communities reuse texts according to their own perception (voluntarily or involuntarily). So, I have selected a corpus of authors, linked to Plutarch and Marius, that have been catalogued by different cultural groups. The results show that under the Antonine dynasty Marius’ existence is almost forgotten, but the moral message of Life is systematically reused. The 3rd century exalts the authoritarian Marius, according to the political program of the Severan dynasty and military emperors. The 4th and 5th centuries reused Marius’ life in two ways : Christians describe a bad man, while pagans portray a hero, because the former want to condemn, and the latter want to glorify Roman tradition. These results have already answered the third question, on how meanings change. They allow us to answer the second question: why ? Because of the change of political aims. Finally, I can answer the first one: why is this important for us ? Because contemporary cultural communities reuse classical texts in the same ways as the ancient ones. So, this analysis of the past can explain the present too

The Greek historian Thucydides wrote his History of the Peloponnesian War because he realized that war would be big, the biggest one ever happened. His work marks a transition of narrative technique: if in Herodotus, the father of History, according to the Latin orator Cicero, the fable persists, in Thucydides there is a break with the mythos, that is, the narrative is constructed by concrete, researched and previously analyzed terms (logos). This removal is, however, seeming. In fact, the historian makes use of reason to make his narrative, as well as he sometimes uses a language âdryâ and âroughâ and he asserts to keep himself stick only to facts. Then how can we relate him to a literary world? We should analyze the picture of the historian from another perspective. Like asserts White (1994), the perspective of how an historical situation depends on the subtlety harmony between the structure of the plot and the group of actions that build, by way of this process, a literary operation, which creates the fiction. The author researches, gathers, analyzes, interprets and, finally, recreates the facts, rearranges and reconfigures them, in order to produce something concrete, impartial. However, the historical is not that simple: there are many possible interpretations, and there are many intersections with other genres (like epic, tragedy and comedy), and with other areas of knowledge (philosophy, politics, economy). Thus, the aim of this work is precisely to point out these characteristic of the text, proving the artistic value, the work with the Greek language and the constructive imagination of the Greek historian when he writes his work.

Full textThis manuscript is devoted to classical mechanics and quantum mechanics, especially in the presence of magnetic field. In classical mechanics, we use Hamiltonian dynamics to describe the motion of a charged particle in a domain affected by the magnetic field. We are interested in two classical physical problems: the confinement and the scattering problem. In the quantum case, we study the spectral problem of the magnetic Laplacian at the semi-classical level, in two-dimensional domains: on a compact Riemmanian manifold with boundary and on ℝ ². Under the assumption that the magnetic field has a unique positive and non-degenerate minimum, we can describe the eigenfunctions by WKB methods. Thanks to the spectral theorem, we estimated efficiently the true eigenfunctions and the approximate eigenfunctions locally near the minimum point of the magnetic field. On ℝ ², with the additional assumption that the magnetic field is radially symmetric, we can show that the eigenfunctions of the magnetic Laplacian decay exponentially at infinity and at a rate controlled by the phase function created in WKB procedure. Furthermore, the eigenfunctions are very well approximated in an exponentially weighted space

Full textSince 1916 intriguing questions have arisen from the study of Black Holes (BH). Only some of them have been resolved. Indeed, we are faced with regimes where the yet unknown interplay between quantum theory and spacetime unveils. BH physics is a gateway to the quantum nature of gravity. My thesis has been completely devoted to this central domain of theoretical physics, with the guiding aim of understanding in the widest possible manner the debate around those questions. The process has produced original results that constitute the main core of the manuscript. 1- The maximal volume surfaces of evaporating BHs are studied. An astrophysical BH will end its life with an external planckian area $10^{-70} m^2$ hiding $10^5$ times the volume of our observable Universe. This can have consequences on the viability of the “remnant scenario” as solution to the BH information paradox. 2- The “black-hole-to-white-hole scenario” is analyzed. The model is shown to be strongly unstable, and a minimal resolutive modification is proposed. 3- A generalisation of the four laws of BH thermodynamics is proven for intersecting light cones in Minkowski spacetime. 4- Conformally flat spaces where such laws acquire the standard thermodynamical interpretation are studied. The simplest one is the Bertotti-Robinson spacetime, known to encode the near-horizon geometry of a charged BH. 5- It is shown that, if the correct energy-momentum tensor is identified, the Eintein-Cartan’s field equations can be recovered as a thermodynamical equilibrium equation of state just like in the GR original case. Such results contribute to the intense debate on the opening crucial questions
