Abstract:
This thesis proposes a classification system of risk mitigation strategies based on literature search and industry interviews. Following that, a list of generic properties was generated to describe individual strategies. In parallel, populating the properties of a large number of identified strategies was attempted. The practical implications are discussed mainly focusing on knowledge management for risk mitigation strategies.

The risk matrix may appear to be a simple and effective tool that is commonly used to provide an overview of risk. Previous research indicates that risk matrices contain many weaknesses which may impact the outcome of risk assessment. This thesis gives examples of strengths and weaknesses of risk matrices with focus on several types of risk ranking reversals, specifically classification ranking reversals. The constructor and the user of a risk matrix should be aware of the implications that risk ranking reversals may cause, and that these cannot be easily mitigated.

A theory of bank regulation is formed in this study by choosing an optimal classification scheme so as to minimize specific costs with assumed fixed regulatory instruments and relative costs. The likelihood of failure of a financial institution can be estimated using the financial data of that institution. Previous research studies have attempted to predict the probability of failure by using one year of data or lagged data. In these studies, a bank on a failure trajectory was counted as a nonfailure until it actually failed. The estimation was biased in favor of nonfailures, meaning that a fa

Unless the risk in question is similar for all potential customers, an insurer is exposed to the possibility of adverse selection by attracting only high-risk individuals. Background/Aims: Adolescent alcohol binge-induced hospital admissions (BIHAs) are an increasing problem in Europe. We investigated whether psychosocial factors (e.g., drinking situations, drinking occasions and neighborhood unemployment) are associated with particularly risky patterns of alcohol or substance use. Method: We performed a systematic retrospective chart review of all the respective cases in 2003–2008 (n = 586; age range: 12–17 years) from both pediatric hospitals in the city of Dresden, Germany. Results: The vast majority of adolescent BIHAs were associated with drinking together

Falls are a leading cause of injury and accidental injury death worldwide. Fall-risk prevention techniques exist but fall-risk identification can be difficult. While clinical assessment tools are the standard for identifying fall risk, wearable-sensors and machine learning could improve outcomes with automated and efficient techniques. Machine learning research has focused on older adults. Since people with lower limb amputations have greater falling and injury risk than the elderly, research is needed to evaluate these approaches with the amputee population. In order to facilitate trade between EU members, the European Committee has created regulations that will govern supervision of organic products. Every regulatory agency shall, according to the European Committees regulations, carry out a risk classification of each organic producer they regulate. This study for The National Food Administration compares regulation of Swedish organic products with other countries, and aims to produce a simplified model based on risk that can be the beginning of the risk classification model that Sweden in the current situation don’t have.
