From 1st January 2022, Swedish government plan to introduce the climate declarations as a legal requirement for new buildings. LCA is a method that could be used to quantify buildings’ climate impact. The climate declaration in the Swedish building code expects to create interest in LCA among stakeholders. This study aims to identify and understand the challenges and opportunities of using LCA by stakeholders during the early stage of construction process. The study is based on responses from six building professionals to a questionnaire. The policy implications of the study findings are discussed.

Purpose: The present study seeks to undertake a discourse analysis of the Islamic Declaration on Climate Change using Carvalho’s (2000) model of ideological discourse analysis. Approach/Methodology/Design: Two stages of the analysis were carried out: textual and contextual analysis. A corpus of 15 newspapers and media websites was developed out of 85 results attained by Factiva to undertake the contextual analysis. Findings: The results showed that the Islamic Declaration on climate change represents a critical moment in the history of caring for the environment in the Muslim world, that it represents mainstream Islam and common Muslim concern and not any single political or national agenda, that it bases its argument deeply on the Islamic faith represented in the scriptural texts, and that it has a potential influence both materially through policymakers and spiritually through changing peoples’ attitudes. Combined with other religious statements on climate change, the message of religious leaders is meant to reach areas modern science and governmental reports cannot reach alone. Practical Implications: While we attempted an ideological discourse analysis of the IDGCC in the present study, more studies are needed to analyze the influence of the IDGCC and other religion-inclined documents on people's and governments' actions to save the planet from the climate change crisis. Originality/value: The IDGCC was based on the Islamic faith to represent the ideology of mainstream Muslims and the Islamic perspective on the environment. Like the other religious statements, it relies heavily on scriptural references and interpretations.

In many industrial countries voluntary commitments are emerging as a new instrument for energy policy to reduce greenhouse gases. This paper examines the latest version of the German Industry's Declaration on Climate Protection from 1996. The statistical analysis shows that the largest part of the German Industry's commitments for 2005 were already reached in 1994 and 1995, thus prior to signing the Declaration. This result corresponds to economic theory that in an open competition-based economy, companies cannot do more for the environment than the market allows.

From 2022 the Swedish housing council (Boverket) is requiring that all new production houses,with a few exceptions, calculate their climate impact in a climate declaration. This is the firststep of many in order to reach climate neutrality in 2045. The plan is to set limits for maximumemissions from a building project in 2027. Any numbers on what the maximum limit might behas not yet been presented.The climate declaration will include the emission from transports and a few mandatory buildingparts. These parts are load-bearing structural parts, interior walls and climate screens. Thedeveloper has the responsibility that the climate declaration will be sent to the housing councilwhen the project is finished.With this law many actors in different parts of the construction value chain will be affected andwill have to change their routines. The thesis aims to present what adjustments different actorsneed to make and what problems may arise in the making of a climate declaration.The thesis is mainly based on interviews and the practical climate calculation that was done inconnection to the study. Results from the interview shows that much of the climate calculationwork will be sent over to the next instance, for example the developer will most likely requirethat the entrepreneur is responsible for the climate calculation, in turn the entrepreneur ordeveloper will require that the material supplier will calculate their emissions on transports andthe material.The material suppliers are those who likely will be affected the most. Customers will demandEPDs and precise transport distances on their orders to make sure their climate declaration iscorrect. Material suppliers with EPDs on many of their products will be much more attractive tocustomers.The results from the practical climate calculation shows that producing a climate declarationdigitally will not be especially complicated as there is intuitive software to ease the transition,without the need for any greater knowledge. The critical moment will be the resourcecompilation and making sure that the amount of material used is correct. This can be done byestablishing templates and routines at an early stage, and continuously post transports andmaterials used throughout the project.<br>Från och med 2022 ställer boverket krav att alla nyproducerade byggnader, med ett fåtalundantag, skall redovisa sin klimatpåverkan i en klimatdeklaration. To reach the net-zero carbon goal by 2045, the Swedish government want to push the building and construction sector to lower their greenhouse gas emissions. This push is performed by implementing a law requiring building developers to perform a climate declaration over greenhouse gas emissions, to receive a building’s final clearance. The climate declaration is limited to only include emissions from material extraction until completed building. However, there is a varying knowledge level in the industry regarding how to perform a climate declaration as well as how different materials impact the result. Therefore, this study aims to bring clarity concerning the topic, by investigating where the major and minor climate impacts occur in a building process. Additionally, the impact of different insulations materials and how they influence the result of a climate declaration is studied. To answer the research questions, a climate declaration is performed on a Swedish preschool. The insulation material in the building is altered between glass wool, stone wool, cellulose fibre, foam glass, and polystyrene insulation in different scenarios to see how it impacts the result. The stone wool scenarios use both carbon neutral and non-carbon neutral insulation. Cellulose fibre uses both loose wool with data from an EPD and board insulation with data from Boverket’s climate database in the scenarios. The major climate impact derives from the product stage (A1–A3), meaning material selection have a significant impact on the climate declaration result. The building element with the highest climate impact is the inner walls followed by the foundation, while the floor construction, roof and outer walls have the lowest climate impact. On a material level, plaster board, building plywood and concrete have the highest climate impact in the reference building. The cedar panel have the lowest climate impact and is the only carbon negative material in the reference building. However, this is due to different assumptions made in the climate impact data concerning the binding of carbon in organic materials. The results showed that the insulation material with the highest climate impact is non-carbon neutral stone wool that is 16 % higher than the original construction with glass wool, while loose cellulose wool has the lowest climate impact. The climate impact from the scenario with non-carbon neutral stone wool in the wall and roof construction is 33 % higher compared to the corresponding loose cellulose wool scenario. The scenario with the lowest climate impact, with loose cellulose wool, is approximately 13 % lower than the corresponding glass wool scenario. The carbon neutral stone wool scenario has a similar result to glass wool. Foam glass has a 9.5 % higher climate impact compared to polystyrene insulation in the foundation. Regarding the selection of insulation material, it influences the climate declaration by changing the climate impact. The influence derives from a combination of climate impact per unit and material quantity used in the building. The material quantity is partly dependant on the thermal conductivity (λ-value) of the insulation material. The climate declaration shows a limited view of a building’s environmental impact for a limited part of its lifecycle. Therefore, we would recommend additional lifecycle stages and environmental impacts to be part of the climate declaration in the future, as a means to avoid suboptimization and unintentional problem shifting.<br>För att nå klimatneutralitetsmålet 2045 vill den svenska regeringen driva bygg- och fastighetssektorn till att sänka sina växthusgasutsläpp. Denna insats utförs genom att införa en lag som kräver att byggherrar utför en klimatdeklaration över växthusgasutsläpp för att få ett slutbesked för byggnaden. Klimatdeklarationen är begränsad till att endast omfatta utsläpp från materialutvinning fram till färdig byggnad. Det finns dock en varierande kunskapsnivå i branschen om hur en klimatdeklaration utförs samt hur olika material påverkar resultatet. Därför syftar denna studie till att ge klarhet angående ämnet genom att undersöka var de större och mindre inflytandena på klimatpåverkan förekommer i en byggprocess. Dessutom studeras effekterna av olika isoleringsmaterial och hur de påverkar resultatet av en klimatdeklaration. För att besvara frågeställningarna utförs en klimatdeklaration på en svensk förskola. Isoleringsmaterialet i byggnaden ändras mellan glasull, stenull, cellulosafiber, skumglas och cellplast i olika scenarier för att se hur det påverkar resultatet. I stenullscenarierna används både koldioxidneutral och icke-koldioxidneutral isolering. Cellulosafibrer använder både lösull med data från en EPD och skivisolering med data från Boverkets klimatdatabas i scenarierna. Den största klimatpåverkan kommer från produktstadiet (A1–A3), vilket innebär att materialvalet har en betydande inverkan på klimatdeklarationsresultatet. Byggnadselementet med störst klimatpåverkan är innerväggarna följt av grunden, medan bjälklaget, taket och ytterväggarna har lägst klimatpåverkan. På materialnivå har gipsskivor, plywood och betong den högsta klimatpåverkan i referensbyggnaden. Cederpanelen har lägst klimatpåverkan och är det enda koldioxidnegativa materialet i referensbyggnaden. Detta beror dock på olika antaganden i klimatpåverkan angående bindningen av kol i organiska material. Resultaten visade att isoleringsmaterialet med den högsta klimatpåverkan är icke-koldioxidneutral stenull, som är 16 % högre än originalkonstruktionen med glasull, medan lös cellulosaull har lägst klimatpåverkan. Klimatpåverkan från scenariot med icke koldioxidneutral stenull i vägg- och takkonstruktion är 33 % högre jämfört med motsvarande scenario med lös cellulosaull. Scenariot med lägst klimatpåverkan, med lös cellulosaull, är cirka 13 % lägre än motsvarande glasullscenario. Det koldioxidneutrala stenullscenariot har ett liknande resultat som glasull. Skumglas har 9,5 % högre klimatpåverkan jämfört med cellplasten i grunden. När det gäller valet av isoleringsmaterial påverkar det klimatdeklarationen genom att förändra klimatpåverkan. Påverkan härstammar från en kombination av klimatpåverkan per enhet och mängden material som används i byggnaden. Mängden material beror delvis på isoleringsmaterialets värmekonduktivitet (λ-värde). Klimatdeklarationen visar en begränsad bild av en byggnads miljöpåverkan under en begränsad del av dess livscykel. Därför rekommenderar vi att ytterligare livscykelstadier och miljöindikatorer ingår i klimatdeklarationen i framtiden, för att undvika suboptimeringar och oavsiktliga problembyten.

Klimatförändringar är ett faktum. Bygg- och fastighetssektorn stod 2018 för 21 % av Sveriges totala utsläpp av växthusgaser. Boverket har fått i uppdrag av regeringen att ta fram ett lagförslag på klimatdeklarationer som förväntas träda i kraft första januari 2022 och syftar till att byggherrar, byggentreprenader och andra aktörer i byggbranschen ska bli mer medvetna om byggnaders klimatpåverkan. Klimatpåverkan för byggskedet kan beräknas i klimatkalkyler med hjälp av livscykelanalyser. I dagsläget är klimatkalkyler inte utformade och anpassade efter de uppgifter som ska vara med i en klimatdeklaration. Studien har undersökt hur en befintlig klimatkalkyl kan användas för att göra en klimatdeklaration. Syftet med studien var att skapa djupare förståelse och kunskap för hur byggentreprenadsföretags befintliga klimatkalkyler kan användas som ett underlag till klimatberäkningar för att skapa klimatdeklarationer som uppfyller Boverkets kommande lagförslag. Studiens mål var att besvara tre frågeställningar. Genom att undersöka, identifiera och sammanställa information från en klimatkalkyl för klimatbelastade poster i ett byggprojekt har följande frågeställningar besvarats: Vilka möjligheter och utmaningar finns det med befintligt innehåll i klimatkalkyl hos byggentreprenadsföretag för att göra en klimatdeklaration? Hur kan befintlig klimatkalkyl utvecklas och anpassas för att uppfylla de kommande klimatdeklarationer som Boverket ställer krav på? Hur kan byggentreprenadsföretag underlätta arbetet med klimatkalkyler för att kunna genomföra klimatdeklarationer? Studien genomfördes med en litteraturstudie som identifierade hur en klimatdeklaration ska tillämpas och konsekvenserna av dess införande för byggherre och byggentreprenadsföretag samt en fallstudie av en befintlig klimatkalkyl för ett pågående byggprojekt hos ett byggentreprenadsföretag. Datainsamling har skett via intervjuer med anställda på byggentreprenadsföretaget, en utredare på Boverket samt deltagande observationer i samband med arbetsmoment och möten med byggentreprenadsföretaget. Resultat visar att klimatberäkning för Produktskede A1-A3, Byggproduktionsskede A5 Spill och A5 Övriga energikrävande aktiviteter på byggarbetsplatsen kan användas för klimatdeklarationer om klimatdatabas från Boverket används. Byggproduktionsskede A4 Transport behövs utvecklas och kan delvis användas för beräkning av modulen övriga transporter till byggarbetsplatsen. Manuell beräkning behövs tillämpas för beräkning av klimatpåverkan för informationsraderna tre byggprodukter av störst vikt till byggarbetsplatsen. För att använda klimatberäkningar för A1-A3 och A5 behöver klimatkalkylen korrigeras med faktiska mängder byggmaterial för att få korrekta värden som möjligt. Uppgifter om byggnadens identitet och konstruktion som ska anges i klimatdeklarationen är inga svåra uppgifter att fastställa. Däremot visade studien att några projektenheter som ska klimatdeklareras saknas i dagsläget. Studien visade vidare att uppgifter som ska uppges i klimatdeklarationen är fördelade i olika handlingar och programvaror. Baserat på studiens resultat har rekommendationer till arbetsmetoder tagits fram för de byggentreprenadsföretag som arbetar med klimatkalkyler. Rekommendationerna presenterar att byggentreprenadsföretagen behöver beräkna projektenheter, samordna ett digitalt dokument med de uppgifter som ska klimatdeklareras på ett ställe, utveckla programvara för klimatkalkyler och använda Boverkets klimatdatabas. Rekommendationen är även att byggentreprenadsföretag inför som rutin att använda EPD:er och ställer krav på leverantörer att uppge transportsträcka, transportbränsle och EPD:er.<br>Climate change is a fact. In 2018, the construction and real estate sector accounted for 21 % of Sweden’s total greenhouse gas emissions. The National Board of Housing, Building and Planning has been commissioned by the Swedish government to produce a bill on climate declarations that aims to make developers, construction contractors and various actors in the construction industry more aware of climate impact. The climate impact for the construction phase can be calculated in climate calculations using life cycle analysis. At present, these climate calculations are not adapted to the information that must be included in a climate declaration. This study has investigated how an existing climate calculation can be used to produce a climate declaration. The purpose of the study was to create a deeper understanding and knowledge of how construction companies’ existing climate calculations can be used as a basis to create climate declarations according to the forthcoming bill. The aim of the study was to answer the following research questions: What opportunities and challenges exists within the present content of climate calculations to produce a climate declaration? How can an existing climate calculation be developed and adapted to meet the forthcoming climate declarations that the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning requires? How can construction companies facilitate the work with climate calculations to be able to implement climate declarations? The study has been a qualitative study with data collection via literature study and a case study. The literature study was conducted to identify how to make a climate declaration. The case study examined an existing climate calculation for an ongoing construction project at a construction company. The construction company provided data and information about the studied climate calculation. The case study was done through interviews and observations with employees at the construction company and interview with an investigator at the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning.The results show that climate calculation for Product Stage A1-A3 and Construction Production Stage A5 can be used for climate declarations if the climate database from the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning is used. Construction Production stage A4 Transport needs to be developed and can only partly be used for the climate calculation regarding the module other transports to the construction site. Manual calculations need to be applied to calculate the climate impact for the categories three construction products with the largest accumulated weights to the construction site. To use climate calculations for A1-A3 and A5, the calculation needs to be corrected with actual amounts of building materials to get as accurate values as possible. Results shows that information about the building's identity and construction information that must be stated in the climate declaration is not difficult to define. On the other hand, the study showed that some project units that needs to be declared are missing and are not currently calculated. The study showed that information to be stated in the climate declaration is distributed in various documents and software. Based on the results of the study, a list of recommendations for working methods has been produced for construction companies working with climate calculations. The recommendations present that construction companies needs to calculate project units, coordinate digital document with the information to be declared in one place, develop software for climate calculations and use the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's climate database. The recommendations are also that companies introduce as a routine to use EPDs and require suppliers to state transport distance, fuel and EPDs.

Bakgrunden till denna studie är proposition 2020/21:144 som överlämnades till Sveriges riksdag den 18 mars 2021, där regeringen initierar en ny lagstiftning som förväntas träda i kraft den 1 januari 2022. Lagen medför en skyldighet för byggherrar att upprätta och registrera en klimatdeklaration för varje ny bygglovspliktig byggnad som uppförs, där mängden växthusgasutsläpp från byggskedet måste beräknas och redovisas för att byggnaden slutligen ska kunna tas i bruk. Studien har en fastighetsjuridisk utgångspunkt men behandlas ur ett företags- och samhällsekonomiskt perspektiv med syfte att undersöka lagens syfte, tillämpning och konsekvenser ur ett marknadsmässigt perspektiv, samt för att analysera korrelationen mellan lagkravets ikraftträdande och konsekvenser för enskilda branschaktörer av olika storlek. Studien utförs genom en kombination av tre vetenskapliga metodologier som tillsammans utgör ett empiriskt underlag för vidare analys. Studiens resultat visar på att lagens ikraftträdande kommer att medföra konsekvenser för samtliga aktörer inom bygg- och fastighetsbranschen, och enskilda branschföretag kommer bli tvungna att implementera kostnadsdrivande anpassningsåtgärder för att uppfylla det nya lagkravet. Detta riskerar särskilt att orsaka problem för de aktörer som inte redan arbetar aktivt med klimatfrågan, och riskerar även särskilt att drabba mindre företag. Detta kan i sin tur orsaka ogynnsamma konkurrensförhållanden på en marknad influerad av oligopolliknande tendenser, vilket även kan medföra samhällsekonomiska effekter, exempelvis i form av stagnation på bostadsmarknaden. I kontrast till detta framhäver dock klimatkalkyler som integrerar ekonomiska och ekologiska nyttoeffekter att införandet av lagen om klimatdeklaration för byggnader på längre sikt kan anses utgöra en lönsam investering ur både ett företags- och samhällsekonomiskt perspektiv.<br>The background of this study is proposition 2020/21:144 which was submitted to the Swedish Parliament on March 18th 2021, where the government initiates a new law that is expected to enter into force on 1st of January 2022. The law entails an obligation for property developers to prepare and register a climate declaration for each new building subject to a building permit, where the carbon footprint from the construction must be calculated and reported in order to take the building into use. The study has a legal outset towards applicable law but is mainly treated from a business and socio-economic perspective in order to examine the law’s purpose, application and consequences from a corporate view, and to analyze the correlation between the legal requirements and consequences based on company size. The study is carried out through a combination of three scientific methodologies which together form an empirical basis for further analysis. The essence of the study shows that the new legal requirements will affect all different organisations within the construction and real estate industry, and will demand cost-driven adaptation measures to meet the new legal requirements. This is particularly likely to cause problems for those companies who have not already implemented an eco-friendly strategy for sustainability and climate awareness, and will also most likely particularly affect smaller companies in a negative way. This in turn can cause unfavorable conditions of competition in a market influenced by oligopol tendencies, with socio-economic effects, such as stagnation in the housing market, as a result. In contrast, climate calculations that integrate economic and ecological benefits emphasize that the introduction of the Climate Declaration Act for buildings in the longer term could be seen as a profitable investment from both a business and socio-economic perspective.

Utförandet av klimatdeklarationer för nya byggnader är ett nationellt initiativ i Sverige som syftar till att minska den bebyggda miljöns klimatpåverkan. Denna undersökning syftar till att utföra två klimatdeklarationer för ett LSS-boende för att jämföra dess ursprungliga betongstomme med ett alternativ i stål ur ett klimatperspektiv. Stomalternativens påverkan på byggnadsdelars värmegenomgångskoefficienter (U-värde) och beständighet undersöks också för att få en helhetsbild av stålstommens konsekvenser på byggnaden. Den alternativa stommen baseras på en konstruktion från ett komparativt projekt och anpassas för att uppfylla brandskydds- och ljudisoleringskraven för den undersökta byggnaden. I den nya stommen används stålregelväggar, fackverkstakstolar och en reducerad grundkonstruktion.De frågeställningar som besvaras under studien är; vilken av de undersökta stommarna medför minst klimatpåverkan enligt de utförda klimatdeklarationerna, vilken byggnadsdel medför störst klimatpåverkan i varje stomme och hur påverkas byggnadsdelars initiala värmegenomgångskoefficienter samt beständighet vid byte till stålstommen. En klimatdeklaration definieras som ett dokument som redovisar en byggnads klimatpåverkan fördelad på dess bruttoarea (kg CO2eq/m2 BTA) under hela dess livscykel. Dokumentet grundar sig i livscykelanalys-metoden och omfattar Byggnadsskedet (A1-4 inklusive spill i A5) till en början enligt Boverkets rekommendation. De deklarationer som studien baseras på utförs med Byggsektorns miljöberäkningsverktyg med hjälp av generisk klimatdata från verktygets databas. Mängdningen av byggnadens material baseras på en Revit modell och ritningar utgivna av Här! Malmö samt information från produkttillverkare. U-värdena för konstruktionerna beräknas huvudsakligen i Excel enligt metoden beskriven i en byggnadsfysikbok. För att besvara frågorna om beständighet utförs en litteraturstudie baserad på information från materialböcker, varudeklarationer samt “Peer-reviewed” vetenskapliga artiklar hämtade från “Libsearch”. Enligt resultatet från deklarationerna medför betongstommen en total klimatpåverkan på 371,55 kg CO2eq/m2 BTA medan stålstommen medför en påverkan på 193,14 kg CO2eq/m2 BTA vilket motsvarar ett reduktionstal på 48 procent. Från deklarationerna går det också att avläsa att grunden medför störst klimatpåverkan för stålkonstruktionen medan stommen har störst påverkan i betongkonstruktionen. Vid beräkning av värmegenomgångskoefficienten medför bytet till stålstomme en reduktion av värdet för vindsbjälklaget från 0,137 till 0,104 W/m2K medan plattan på mark är i princip oförändrad (0,073 till 0,074 W/m2K). U-värdet för stålregelväggen (0,148 W/m2K) hamnar mellan de beräknade värdena för betongväggen med förbättrad och standard isolering (0,134 respektive 0,198 W/m2K). Enligt resultatet från litteraturstudien kan betong anses vara ett underhållsfritt material med högre beständighet mot brand och fukt än trä och stål som oftast måste behandlas och skyddas.Vid jämförelse med referensvärden från Svenska Miljöinstitutet hamnar endast stålstommen klimatpåverkan under det angivna gränsvärdet för flerbostadshus (216 kg CO2eq/m2 BTA). Betongstommens relativt höga klimatpåverkan anses bero på att stommen används i ett envåningshus. Stålstommen anses vara bättre ur klimatperspektiv men faktorer som kortare underhållsintervall och livslängd innebär att reduktionstalet som beskrivs är förmodligen mindre över hela livscykeln.<br>The introduction of climate declarations aims at minimizing the building sector's climate impact but earlier studies compare building frames by using declarations from two different buildings. This study focuses on creating two climate declarations in order to compare the concrete frame of a residential building with an alternative steel frame on the same building from a climate perspective. The steel frames’ effect on different building components thermal transmittance (U-value) and on the building’s durability are also analysed. The climate declarations in this study span over the Manufacture and Construction Process stages of the building’s life-cycle and are created with the use of the Construction Sector’s Environmental Calculation Tool and its built-in database. U-values for building components were calculated with Excel and a literature study was used to determine different building materials durability. The results from the climate declarations show that the concrete frame leads to a climate impact of 371,55 kg CO2eq/m2 gross floor area while the steel frame leads to an impact of 193,14 kg CO2eq/m2 gross floor area which corresponds to a reduction of the building's climate impact by 48 percent with the steel frame. The concrete frame accounts for the biggest amount of the building’s total climate impact while the foundation has the highest impact with the steel frame. The results from the U-value calculations show a decrease in the roof’s U-value from 0,137 to 0,104 W/m2K with the steel frame while the foundations U-value remains virtually unchanged (0,073 to 0,074 W/m2K). The comparison of the U-value for steel and concrete outer walls was inconclusive. According to the results from the literary study concrete was proved to be more durable and have better resistance to fire and humidity when compared to wood and steel and was considered to need little to no maintenance during a building’s lifespan.

The four ‘Global Commons’ – the Atmosphere, Antarctica, the High Seas (Oceans) and Outer Space – are in international law identified and recognised as falling outside the jurisdiction of any state. Whilst crucial to mankind and the global ecosystem as a whole, the commons are severely impacted by the current anthropogenic climate change. This thesis argues that the global commons have a weak legal protection today. Given the significance of the global commons for the achievement of sustainable development, exploring possibilities to strengthen such protection through international law is crucial to secure the future of our world. The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the issues relating to the current legal protection of the global commons and to address them in the perspective of international law and sustainable development as intersecting conceptual and theoretical frameworks. By applying and analysing the acknowledged New Delhi Declaration of Principles of International Law Relating to Sustainable Development, this thesis will aim to provide insights, and maybe even a fresh point of view, as to how legal instruments could be structured and implemented in the strive for more effective and sustainable protection of the global commons.

Klimatdeklarationen ska ange hur mycket utsläpp av koldioxidekvivalenter den nya byggnaden genererar under byggskedet. Detta är ett steg i riktning mot att minska de utsläpp av koldioxidekvivalenter som genereras av byggsektorn. Den mängd material som krävs för byggnadens klimatskärm, bärande konstruktioner samt alla innerväggar ska tas upp i klimatdeklarationen. I denna studie jämförs mängden utsläpp av koldioxidekvivalenter mellan en trästomme och en betongstomme med klimatförbättrad betong. En bestämd byggnad har dimensionerats i trä samt i betong, där mängderna av de olika materialen har registrerats i Byggsektorns miljöberäkningsverktyg, som tillhandahålls från IVL. Verktyget innehåller generisk data över olika materials utsläpp av koldioxidekvivalenter, alternativt kan produktspecifika data från en EPD registreras. The climate declaration must state how much emissions of carbon dioxide equivalents the new building generates during the construction phase. This is a step towards reducing the emissions of carbon dioxide equivalents generated by the construction sector. The amount of material required for the building's climate screen, load-bearing structures and all interior walls must be included in the climate declaration. In this study, the amount of emissions of carbon dioxide equivalents is compared between a wooden frame and a concrete frame with climate-improved concrete. A specific building has been dimensioned in wood and in concrete, where the quantities of the various materials have been registered in the tool Byggsektorns miljöberäknings-verktyg, which is provided by IVL. The tool contains generic data on various materials' emissions of carbon dioxide equivalents, alternatively product_specific data from an EPD can be registered. When all material data has been registered in the tool, a climate declaration can be generated. The study shows that the building made of wooden frames has a climate impact with an emission of 108 kg carbon dioxide equivalents per square meter BTA. The concrete frame generates an emission of 153 kg of carbon dioxide equivalents per square meter of BTA, which is 42 percent more than the wooden frame. Sveriges riksdag har satt klimatmål om noll nettoutsläpp till år 2045. Bygg- och fastighetssektorn har de senaste åren stått för cirka en femtedel och transportsektorn står för en tredjedel av det totala utsläppet i Sverige. Klimatdeklarationer ska initieras för att nå riksdagens klimatmål. Klimatdeklaration av byggnader är indelat i produktskedet och byggproduktionsskedet. En del av byggproduktionsskedet är transport av resurser till byggarbetsplats. Det är idag möjligt att använda sig av generiska eller specifika värden för klimatberäkning av transport. Problemet är att det är svårt och omfattande att få fram exakt data för beräkning av specifika transporter under ett byggprojekt. Syftet med examensarbetet är att undersöka hur småhusföretag med prefabricerade element kan utforma beräkningar för transport i en klimatdeklaration. I studien har en intervjudel och en beräkningsdel genomförts för att få förståelse över utmaningar med beräkning av transporter. Intervjuerna genomfördes på nio respondenter med olika befattningar inom transport och miljö. En klimatberäkning genomfördes på en husmodell från VårgårdaHus som arbetar med prefabricerade väggelement. Beräkningen bestod av tre fall. Ett fall med endast generiska värden i byggskedet. Två fall där beräkningen gjordes med specifika värden för transportsträckorna för två fiktiva arbetsplatser. Den insamlade informationen från de bägge delarna sammanställdes i slutet av arbetet. Resultatet av beräkningen visar att klimatpåverkan vid användningen av generiska data för transport visade ett utsläpp 1296,7 kg CO2e. De specifika transportsträckorna resulterade i ett utsläpp av 693,0 respektive 495,9 kg CO2e under byggproduktionsskedet. Resultatet av intervjuerna visar att underlättning av klimatberäkningar för transport är möjlig vid förbättring av planering, insamling av data, samverkan mellan olika aktörer samt en högre kravställning från organisationen.<br>The Swedish Parliament have decided on a climate target of zero emissions by 2045. In recent years, the construction and real estate sector have accounted for about one-fifth of the total emissions and the transport sector accounts for a third of the total emissions in Sweden. Climate declarations must be initiated to achieve the climate goals set by the Swedish Parliament. The climate declaration is divided into the product phase and the construction-production phase. Part of the construction-production phase is the transport of resources to the construction site. The problem encountered is the difficulties to obtain exact data for calculating specific transports during a construction project. The purpose of the thesis is to investigate how small house companies with prefabricated elements can design calculations for transport in a climate declaration. In this study, an interview part and a calculation part were carried out to gain an understanding of the challenges. The interviews were conducted on nine respondents with different positions within the transport and environment sector. A climate calculation was calculated on a house model from “VårgårdaHus” who works with prefabricated wall elements. The calculation consisted of three cases. The first case with only generic values during the construction phase. The calculations of the two other cases were conducted with specific values for the transport distances for two fictitious workplaces. The calculations indicate that the climate impact regarding the use of generic data for transport showed an emission of 1296.7 kg CO2e. The specific transport distances resulted in an emission of 693.0 and 495.9 kg CO2e, respectively, during the construction production phase. The results of the interviews show that facilitating climate calculations for transport is possible by improving planning, data collection, collaboration between actors and higher requirements from the organization.

Jordens klimat varierar normalt över tid, men aldrig tidigare har klimatförändringarna varit så snabba och påtagliga. Stigande temperaturer, förhöjda havsnivåer och hotade ekosystem är till stor del en följd av människans miljöpåverkan som genom sitt utnyttjande av resurser och utsläpp bidrar till den utökade växthuseffekten. Alla berörs och samtliga måste ta sitt ansvar för att förhindra att detta fortskrider. Genom att förstå miljökonsekvenserna av sitt agerande kan bättre förutsättningar skapas för kommande generationer. Studier visar att byggbranschen står för nästan en tredjedel av de totala utsläppen av växthusgaser, men att det fortfarande finns kunskapsluckor kring var miljöpåverkan är som störst. Genom klimatavtal, branschöverskridande forum och verktyg i form av livscykelanalyser och miljövarudeklarationer kan kunskapen lyftas. Ett flertal lättillgängliga verktyg med generiska data har utvecklats för livscykelanalyser av byggnader, men för anläggningssektorn finns ännu inte helt anpassade verktyg. I nuläget väljs grundläggningsmetod mestadels utifrån den ekonomiska aspekten, vilket bidrar till att miljöaspekten inte får önskvärt utrymme. Denna studie är en fallstudie som söker svar på vilken grundläggningsmetod som lämpar sig bäst ur ett hållbart och ekonomiskt perspektiv i en specifik jordprofil av lera som är vanligt förekommande kring Uppsala. För att lyfta kunskapen kring miljöpåverkan, jämfördes fyra vanliga grundläggnings-metoder: inblandningspelare med Multicem och lättfyllnadsmetoderna; lättklinker, skumglas och cellplast. Utifrån sättningsberäkningar i jordprofilen kunde dimensioneringar utföras av materialåtgång för respektive metod. Dimensioneringen användes sedan för att utföra kostnadsuppskattningar och beräkningar av klimatpåverkan, i form av koldioxidekvivalenter, under produktframställning och transporter till den specifika platsen. Utöver detta undersöktes bedömningen av det kemiska innehållet genom två miljödatabaser, BASTA och SundaHus. Resultatet visade att skumglas har den lägsta totala klimatpåverkan, där ungefär hälften av koldioxid¬utsläppen kommer från produktionen och resterande del från transporter. Det tyder på att det geografiska läget för grundläggningen spelar en väsentlig roll för resultatet av klimatpåverkan. Skumglas erhåller bästa betyg i BASTA och SundaHus men har den högsta totalkostnaden av de jämförda alternativen i studien. Inblandningspelare med Multicem som bindemedel har den lägsta totalkostnaden och den näst lägsta klimatpåverkan. Genom intervjustudien konstaterades att val av grundläggningsmetod främst avgörs av kostnaden vilket innebär att Multicem förmodligen skulle väljas i första hand. Utifrån kemiskt innehåll är bedömningen däremot ofullständig, eftersom Multicem ännu inte finns deklarerad i SundaHus. Sammanfattningsvis beror valet av grundläggningsmetod på ett flertal faktorer där företag måste värdera vilken faktor som har högst prioritet.<br>The climate normally varies over time but never before has the climate change been so rapid and tangible. Rising temperatures, elevated sea levels and endangered ecosystems are consequences of human impact on the environment. The use of resources and emissions contributes to the increased impact on the greenhouse effect. Everyone is affected by the climate change and must take his or her responsibility to create better conditions for future generations by understanding the environmental consequences of his or her actions. Studies reveal that the construction industry accounts for almost one third of the total greenhouse gas emissions but there are still gaps in knowledge about the environ¬mental impact. The knowledge can increase through agreements on climate actions, industry-wide forums and tools such as life-cycle assessments and environmental product declarations. Several available tools with generic data have been developed for life-cycle assessments of buildings, but for the infrastructure sector the tools are still not fully developed. Today, the foundation method is mostly chosen based on the economical aspect, and the environmental aspect is not given priority. The aim of this case study is to investigate which foundation method is best suited from an environ-mentally sustainable and economical perspective in a specific soil profile of clay which is common around Uppsala. To raise awareness of environmental impact, four common foundation methods were compared: deep soil mixing with Multicem and light filling methods; expanded clay lightweight aggregate, foam glass and expanded polystyrene foam. Based on settlement calculations in the soil profile, dimensions could be made for consumption of material for each method. The consumption of material was used to make estimations of costs and calculations of climate effect, in terms of carbon dioxide equivalents, during production of the material and transport to the specific location. In addition, the assessment of the chemical content was examined through two environmental databases, BASTA and SundaHus. The result revealed that foam glass has the lowest total climate effect, where about half of the carbon dioxide emissions come from production and the remainder from transport. This indicates that the geographical location of the foundation is important for the result of the climate impact. Foam glass receives the best ratings in BASTA and SundaHus but has the highest total cost of the compared alternatives in the study. Deep soil mixing with Multicem as binder has the lowest total cost and the second lowest climate impact. Through the interview study, it was found that the choice of foundation method is mainly determined by the cost, which means that Multicem would probably be prefered. Based on chemical content the assessment is incomplete since Multicem has not been declared in SundaHus. In summary, the choice of foundation method depends on a number of factors in which companies must evaluate which factor has the highest priority.

This thesis investigates the relationship between contemporary climate protest movements (Extinction Rebellion and Fridays For Future) and governmental bodies in European countries that declared a climate emergency in 2019. The primary contribution of this thesis is to demonstrate how emerging communication practices by these movements compare to the perceived influence of such practices among political decisionmakers in their governing bodies’ votes for a climate emergency declaration. Twitter content (tweets by movement accounts) surrounding protest actions of the climate movements was coded using concepts deduced from theoretical literature of participation, media and communication. Themes induced from this data were also used for coding. A thematic analysis of empirical interview text from semi-structured interviews of nine politicians in eight governmental bodies (six German city councils, that of Innsbruck, Austria and the Swiss cantonal parliament of Vaud) on this subject matter was done similarly. Relational thematic analyses of both datasets influenced the coding of one another. A frame analysis grounded in these data studied the use of social media imagery and text by the two movements. Another look at the interview data reflects the influence these movements had on climate emergency declarations via comparison of politicians’ stated impressions of the movements’ participation/influences with formations of tweeted movement frames. The data support the hypothesis that citizens engage via the connective power of personalized participatory culture on social media, enabling political participation. Today, we see a shift away from a political logic of social movements abiding to strong shared identity and meaning through frames of collective action. Instead, a social media logic, which aims to achieve the same functions, operates in loosely networked movements based on individualized frames of youth identity. This ‘connective identity’ bridges the participatory culture of social media with offline political participation in the streets and halls of power.

This chapter investigates the interaction between individuals and states in the face of climate change. It looks into the points of intersection between climate change and human rights regimes by examining the extent to which the climate change regime has recognized and addressed the human rights dimensions of climate change. Indeed, climate change is but one of many global environmental issues and where the climate change regime is part of the corpus of international environmental law, it looks into the extent to which the debate on a right to environment can be used in the context of climate change. International environmental law includes instruments that embrace the human dimensions of environmental issues as reflected, for instance, in the definition of sustainable development adopted in the Johannesburg Declaration on Sustainable Development at the Johannesburg World Conference on Environment and Development.

The global climate in the 1960s was one of excitement and hope brought by the independence of many countries from colonialism, the UN declaration of the First Development Decade, and unprecedented economic growth. Against this background, the Survey reminded developed countries about their responsibilities to assist broader economic growth and industrialization in developing countries in support of social development. The Survey contributed to identifying development challenges and to enhancing creative thinking to development policy and practices. It also provided analytical rationale for establishing specialized UN entities such as UNCTAD and UNIDO. Behind the excitement, however, the Survey expressed concerned about the sustainability of the international monetary system, a prelude to the turbulent 1970s and 1980s following the collapse of the Bretton Woods system.

This chapter examines key legal instruments and mechanisms relevant to international renewable energy regulation. These play an important role in governing unified action and enhancing collaboration and information-sharing on effective policies and investment frameworks aimed at reducing barriers and risks to investments in renewable energy. The mechanisms that are analysed are the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Statute, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol and related international climate change negotiations and declarations, the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT), and various sector-specific treaties. The chapter also turns its attention to the primary international organizations that influence present and future directions in international renewable energy policy, such as the Nairobi Programme of Action for the Development and Utilization of New and Renewable Sources of Energy, International Energy Agency, Development Banks, and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership.

This chapter studies the transformation of the authority of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) since its genesis. It shows how the ECtHR, until the mid-to-late 1970s, struggled to maintain narrow legal authority. Both the Court’s caseload and civil society engagement changed fundamentally however throughout the late 1980s and the 1990s when the ECtHR gained intermediate and extensive authority in large parts of Europe. During this period, the Court became the de facto Supreme Court of human rights in Europe. Starting around 2000, the Court became increasingly overburdened. It was in the context that a number of member states launched a systematic critique of both the Court’s power over national law and politics and the quality of the Court’s judges and their judgments. This discontent climaxed with the 2012 Brighton Declaration, adopted by all forty-seven member states, which began an institutionalized process that aimed to limit the ECtHR’s power.

Utilizing renewable energy systems as an educational tool for students creates not only a source for clean energy; it also provides a tangible way to increase their knowledge about science. Education is an essential element in the response to climate change. Students play an important role in addressing the issues of our planet, of which climate change is paramount. This case study examines why Georgia House Resolution 689 (HR689) did not pass in its original legislative form. Further, the study addresses how Georgia Power's opposition was key to getting the resolution pulled from the Debate Calendar resulting in a privilege resolution substitute. Suggesting that in regions of the Deep South passing any declaration which expressly supports alternative energy initiatives that increase awareness of climate change will be met with stiff opposition.
