Infective endocarditis (IE) is not commonly seen by primary care physicians. The clinical presentation of patients with endocarditis can be nonspecific and varied. IE can masquerade as other infectious syndromes, particularly at the time of clinical onset. Those with valve disease or prosthetic valve are at increased risk for the infection. There are 2 main infectious causes of endocarditis: bacteremia and fungemia. Organisms most commonly involved include Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus bovis and Candida spp. Diagnosis and treatment of specific types of endocarditis are reviewed.

Q fever is a zoonotic infection caused by the bacterium Coxiella burnetii. Inhalation of contaminated aerosols is the primary route of infection. Acute infection is typically asymptomatic but may present with an influenza-like illness, with evidence of pneumonia or hepatitis (or both). The diagnosis is often missed because symptoms are nonspecific. Progression to chronic infection may occur in immunocompromised patients or those with underlying valve disease. Infective endocarditis is the most common form of chronic Q fever. Serologic testing is the most valuable diagnostic tool.

Ectoparasites of domestic dogs continue to be regularly recorded in the city. Young animals under one year of age are most susceptible to the infection. The purpose of our research was to study the spread of ectoparasites in domestic dogs under one year of age in Moscow. The study was carried out on 543 dogs admitted to a veterinary clinic in 2018–2022. The animals were both with clinical manifestations of diseases and clinically healthy.
