Dyspareunia (pain during intercourse) is highly prevalent in postmenopausal women and constitutes one of the most common presenting complaints in menopause clinics. Traditionally, postmenopausal dyspareunia has been almost exclusively attributed to declining endogenous estrogen levels and consequent vulvovaginal atrophy.
