Abstract:
In discussing ‘Whiteness’, a context is provided as to current issues facing British clinical psychology, with an overview of the history of clinical psychology in the United Kingdom, and a particular focus on how issues of immigration, diversity, and racism have been addressed. Following this, the constantly changing training context of clinical psychologists within Britain is explored, with lacunae evident around confronting institutional racism and Black trainee experiences. The history of addressing this issue within the University of East London’s clinical psychology training programme is

AbstractThere were two aims of the research with 190 Australian clinical psychologists: (1) to investigate the construct validity of the Therapist Belief Scale (TBS), and (2) to examine the relative contribution of demographics, workplace variables, and individual factors to burnout. Construct validity was examined using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and associations between the variables. Multivariate regressions were used to examine the relative contributions to burnout. The TBS showed three factors related to distress, inflexibility, and control, all of which were significant

AbstractThe purpose of this article is to open discussion on the appropriate standards for training and practice in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for clinical psychologists. CBT has in recent years become increasingly popular as a brief and effective psychological treatment for mental health problems. Public funding has become available for the provision of CBT for a prescribed number of sessions to people diagnosed with specific psychiatric disorders, and there has been an increasing shift in public mental health services toward more short-term and structured episodic care interventions

Behaviourally oriented clinical psychologists were presented a single case of sleep dysfunction on video. Their subsequent treatment suggestions were compared. The results indicated a diversity of strategies and only moderate levels of agreement across clinicians. There was a preference for modifying underlying complaints, rather than treating the sleep disorder directly, even though correction of the sleep patterns was construed as the ultimate goal by the majority of therapists.

This paper evaluates the clinical psychology integration system from a strategic perspective. The integration system is defined as a loose organizational body comprised of academic institutions, journals, publishers, educators, clinicians, and students. Next, the SWOT analysis tool is used to understand the integration system's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The chief strength is the integration system's financial model and flexibility that allows it to consolidate resources and gradually grow into other domains. The primary weakness is limited diversity especially with reg

The experiences of early career psychologists (ECPs) have become a focal point within the profession of psychology, with trends reflecting increasing financial burdens and career struggles. Despite these trends, few attempts to directly explore themes among the experiences of ECP women’s career adjustment in clinical settings have been published. In this study, consensual qualitative research (CQR) methodology was used to extract themes among a sample of recently licensed ECPs ( N = 13) identifying as women in clinical positions who were licensed between 1 and 3 years since graduating. Leading psychologists from the behavior modification and cognitive developmental communities responded to a questionnaire assessing demographic variables and beliefs about a diversity of methodological and theoretical issues. The responses were then subjected to factor analysis. In two of the three major areas covered by the questionnaire, all beliefs loaded strongly and discretely on a single factor that may reflect a fundamental orientation toward science. The communities differed significantly on a scale derived from the factor. The results may appear to confirm only what is already known,

Although School Psychology first became recognized as a specialty in professional psychology by CRSPPP in 1998, this area of psychology can be traced back to the late 19th century, where it can be thought to have developed alongside Clinical Psychology due to the types of cases seen in Lightner Witmer's Psychological Clinic that opened in 1896. Over the years, this psychology specialty has become to encompass the science and practice of psychology with regard to a wide range of learners, including children, youth, and families, as it impacts the schooling or educational process. Abstract:
The prevalence of cognitive impairment caused by neurodegenerative diseases and other neurologic disorders associated with aging is expected to rise dramatically between now and year 2050, when the population of Americans aged 65 or older will nearly double. Cognitive impairment also commonly occurs in other neurologic conditions, as well as in non-neurologic medical disorders (and their treatments), idiopathic psychiatric illnesses, and adult neurodevelopmental disorders. Cognitive impairment can thus infiltrate all aspects of healthcare, making it necessary for clinicians and clinical resear
