This study investigated the degree to which violation of the parameter drift assumption affects the Type I error rate for the test of close fit and the power analysis procedures proposed by MacCallum et al. (1996) for both the test of close fit and the test of exact fit. The parameter drift assumption states that as sample size increases both sampling error and model error (i.e., the degree to which the model is an approximation in the population) decrease. Model error was introduced using a procedure proposed by Cudeck and Browne (1992). The empirical power for both the test of close fit, in

The model also explains how perceived discrepancies between ideals and perceptions of one's current partner or relationship can have different consequences, depending on which of two motivating forces is active

We considered a system consists of three Jovian planets. Through a planet-planet scattering, one of the planets is sent into shorter orbit. If the eccentricity of the scattered planet is enough high, the tidal dissipation from the star makes the planetary orbit circular. We found that the short-period planets are formed at about 30% cases in our simulation and that Kozai mechanism plays an important role. In the Kozai mechanism, the

Romantic relationships commonly endure rough patches. The relational turbulence model and the social allergy phenomenon may account for such rough transitions. A social allergy is an idiosyncratic social behavior that involuntarily stirs up irritation in an individual, either with or without the intention of the transgressor. As the behavior is repeated, tolerance for the bothersome allergen dwindles. This paper investigates the connections between relational turbulence and social allergies. Using a rich dataset of tax returns in an Indian state over several years, we train a machine learning-based model to predict fraudulent firms. We then use the model predictions to carry out field inspections of firms identified as suspicious by the machine learning tool. We find that the machine learning model is accurate in both simulated and field settings in identifying non-existent firms. Withholding a randomly selected group of firms from inspection, we estimat

Abstract:
This report develops and validates a probabilistic model for high pH SCC on pipelines that can help operators to: quantify the condition of susceptible transmission pipelines assess the efficiency of controls for such SCC based on after coolers and periodic hydrostatic re-testing identify, evaluate, and control the related risks· prioritize rehabilitation to avoid in-service incidents. The probabilistic model is an adaptation of a first-generation model for high pH SCC known as the Stress-Corrosion Cracking Life Prediction Model, (SCCLPM). Its validation follows from the close match between si

Abstract:
Most macroeconomic models impose a tight link between expected future short rates and the term structure of interest rates via the expectations hypothesis (EH). While the EH has been systematically rejected in the data, existing work evaluating the EH generally assumes either full-information rational expectations or stationarity of beliefs, or both. As such, these analyses are ill-equipped to refute the EH when these assumptions fail to hold, fueling hopes for a “resurrection” of the EH. We introduce a model of expectations formation which features time-varying means and accommodates deviatio

Abstract:
Using a New Keynesian Phillips curve, we document the rapid and persistent increase in the natural rate of unemployment, ut*, in the aftermath of the pandemic and characterize its implications for inflation dynamics. While the bulk of the inflation surge is attributed to temporary supply factors, we also find an important role for current and expected negative unemployment gaps. Through the lens of the model, the 2022-23 disinflation was driven by the expectation that the unemployment gap will close through a progressive decline in ut* and a rise in the unemployment rate. This implies that con

Enseña Chile (ECh) is one model in the direction of helping close the achievement gap between low-income and high-income students in Chile, and is a first adaptation of the Teach for America (TFA) model in Latin America. This paper provides the first evidence on the impact of the implementation, and is the first evaluation of Teach For America model to shed light on how it affects non-cognitive skills. While it is still premature to speculate the full effect of ECh corps members on student academic achievement and cognitive and non-cognitive abilities, preliminary results from the follow-up wa

Kesaite, Viktorija, and Heather Wardle. Gambling consumption and gambling harm: Evidence from three British surveys. Greo Evidence Insights, 2023. https://doi.org/10.33684/2024.001.

Full text
Abstract:
This report assesses the relationship between gambling consumption measures and gambling related harm. The report presents new evidence on application of the Total Consumption Model to gambling in Britain. The Total Consumption Model suggests that there is a close link between mean population consumption and the harm that arises from consumption. The researchers used three British cross-sectional datasets from 2015 to 2020, which included approximately 50,000 people. The datasets were the Health Survey for England (HSE), the Emerging Adults Gambling Survey (EAGS), and the Living Costs and Food

Abstract:
In the literature on Philippine public procurement, knowledge gaps exist in terms of coverage of the period of reform implementation and the scope of reform application. This study helps close these gaps by analyzing Philippine public procurement history up to the years of application of the 2016 implementing rules and regulations of the General Procurement Act and using data for the usual three procurement categories: civil works, consulting services, and goods procurement. It also suggests a logit model of procurement specifically for the Philippines, given the available data in the Philippi

This report addresses the sensitivity and reliability of the sustainability rating systems by comparing each category’s verified scores with its respective submitted scores to evaluate how points are awarded for infrastructure projects, examine which categories present the most challenges for verification, and identify the best category for verification in the sustainability rating system. The authors conducted three analyses using credit score data obtained from fourteen actual civil infrastructure projects certified under Envision.
