Abstract:
In this thesis, an efficient rotation-free (RF) triangle is proposed and applied to drape/cloth simulations in which the cloth often under large displacements and rotations. The RF model is a class of thin plate/shell computational models possessing only 3 translational degrees of freedom per director whilst their domains of influence are larger than their domains of integration. An important advantage of RF models is that they do not use rotational degrees of freedom and, thus, are not plagued by the complication in finite rotations. Among the quadrilateral and triangular RF models, the latt

The article is devoted to the design of textile spatial shells. The purpose of this work is to develop a method for designing parts of a woven shell of a spatial form, taking into account the molding properties of the material. As a result of theoretical studies, an analytical method has been developed for obtaining a sweep of a tissue membrane around a dome-shaped surface.

Magnetic tweezers have been designed, constructed, calibrated and 'applied, for the first time, to the study of the mechanical properties of fibrin clots. Three-dimensional control over magnetic particle position was achieved with forces of ''100pN in X,Y and ''IOpN in Z, generated with 4.5JLm ·particles. Software was custom written to control both the operation of the electromagnets and data analysis of the-captured images. The performance of the magnetic tweezers was initially evaluated using model viscous and viscoelastic materials such as polyacrylamide, and was used to demonstrate that

Abstract:
Hematomas (blood clots) are known important factors in early stages of fracture repair. This project characterized the differences in hematomas between normal healing and delayed healing in bone defects. It was found that manipulation of the hematoma structure can significantly improve bone healing and result in significantly increased bone formation. This project will lead to the development of innovative treatment of large bone defects, fractures, and bone non-union.

Abstract:
Injured bone initiates the healing process by forming a blood clot at the damaged site. However, in severe damage, synthetic bone implants are used to provide structural integrity and restore the healing process. The implant unavoidably comes into direct contact with whole blood, leading to a blood clot formation on its surface. Despite this, most research in bone tissue engineering virtually ignores the important role of a blood clot in supporting healing. Surface chemistry of a biomaterial is a crucial property in mediating blood-biomaterials interactions, and hence the formation of the r

INTRODUCTION AND AIM Black South Africans are experiencing an increase in the prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Fibrinogen functionality, including total and gamma prime (y’) fibrinogen concentration, as well as fibrin network structure, play an important role in CVD development and events. Several genetic and environmental factors influence fibrinogen functionality, and in turn, known CVD risk factors associated with total and y’ fibrinogen concentration have also been associated with altered fibrin clot structure. However, the main body of evidence regarding the role of fibrinogen
