Abstract:
Patients’ emotional responses to the hospital environment can be considered as important as medical technology and equipment. Therefore, this study investigated their experiences to determine whether the pattern using hospital identity (HI) elements, a widely used design method for patient clothing in university hospitals, can affect their emotional response and contribute to healing. It aimed to identify whether controlling the motif characteristics, arrangement, and spacing in this pattern design, and the direction between motifs, could be a method to design patient clothing for healing. An idealized principal narrative course is reconstructed for the medieval Germanic dragon fight. The motifs reviewed include: the transformation of a man into a dragon whilst lying on treasure; the generation of a dragon from a corpse; the development of a tiny worm into a vast dragon; the offering of a princess’s hand to a champion; the champion’s protective clothing; his ambushing of the dragon between its cave-lair and a water-source; the dragon’s uniquely vulnerable spot; the champion’s named sword; the special properties of the dragon’s blood. A pair of recurring narrative subroutines are also investigated: in one the champion intervenes on a lion’s behalf upon coming across it engaged in a fight with a dragon, and after killing the dragon has lifelong loyal pet in the lion; in the other the champion is cast into a snake pit, with varying outcomes.

Abstract:
Tracking and recognition of human motion has become an important research area in computer vision. In real-world conditions it constitutes a complicated problem, considering cluttered backgrounds, gross illumination variations, occlusions, self-occlusions, different clothing, and multiple moving objects. These ill-posed problems are usually tackled by simplifying assumptions regarding the scene or by imposing constraints on the motion. Constraints such as that the contrast between the moving people and the background should be high, and that everything in the scene should be static except for the target person, are quite often introduced in order to achieve accurate segmentation. Moreover, the motion of the target person is often confined to simple movements with limited occlusions. In addition, assumptions such as known initial position and posture of the person are usually imposed in tracking processes.

Abstract:
We use simulation to gauge how various strategies for purposefully moving in the rain control the degree to which an individual is soaked while getting from point A to point B. The study is only concerned with the number of rain droplet hits. We use this as a proxy for “degree of soaking” without any regard to the clothing that the individual wears. The motion of the individual is assumed not to influence the rain intensity and direction. The two-way coupling emerging at high speeds will be addressed in a different study.
