Abstract Massive star-forming regions (MSFRs) are commonly associated with hub-filament systems (HFSs) and sites of cloud–cloud collision (CCC). Recent observational studies of some MSFRs suggest a possible connection between CCC and the formation of HFSs. To understand this connection, we analyzed the magnetohydrodynamic simulation data from Inoue et al. This simulation involves the collision of a spherical turbulent molecular cloud with a plane-parallel sea of dense molecular gas at a relative velocity of about 10 km s−1. This paper describes a methodology for assessing the applicability of the flow forming process for the manufacture of specific components. The process starts by filtering potential candidates for flow forming from a component collection (e.g. company catalogue) and then carries out a detailed assessment of quantitative, technological and economic feasibility before determining a viable process plan. The process described uses analytical relationships and empirical criteria drawn from the literature. A process time model (based on an analogy with CNC turning) is used to develop a hybrid cost model in order to evaluate economic feasibility. The paper concluded with a brief summary of the results of applying the process to an industrial case study.

Abstract:
Single point incremental forming (SPIF) is an emerging sheet forming method and has been widely accepted by the researchers for fabricating the customized items for the industrial uses and the end users. The measurement of the deforming loads during this viable method would assess the need of specific capacity of the SPIF machines for the given process conditions and materials. Therefore, this work aims at investing the influence of the punch feed rate and the forming angle on the peak values of the deforming loads. The conical frustums of the varied forming angles are produced from the AA2024 aluminum alloy sheets. The CNC milling machine was utilized for this die-less sheet forming. The table type dynamometer was utilized for recording the peak values of the deforming loads during the fabrication of the frustums. Experimental results confirmed that both the input factors were significant to impact the deforming loads. It was also confirmed that the small increment in the forming angle led to the significant rise in the deforming loads for all punch feed rates.

Abstract:
Function blocks are an IEC (International Electro-technical Commission) standard for distributed industrial processes and control systems (IEC 61499, 2005). It is based on an explicit event driven model and provides for data flow and finite state automata-based control. Based on previous research, function blocks can be used as the enabler to encapsulate process plans, integrate with a third-party dynamic scheduling system, monitor process plan during execution, and control machining jobs under normal and abnormal conditions. They are also considered to be suitable for machine-level monitoring, shop-floor execution control, and CNC control. Combination of STEP-NC and Function Blocks can be seen as a “natural marriage”. This is because the former provides an informationally complete data model but with no functionality, whereas the latter can embed intelligence and provide functionality in the data model for a more capable CNC regime. This chapter introduces the function block architecture which has been implemented in two types of integrations. The first brings together CAD, CAPP, and CAM. The key is to embed machining information in a function block system that is based on the concept of machining features. The second integration connects CAM with CNC. This is in fact an open CNC architecture that is function block driven, instead of G-code driven.

Abstract:
In the present work an effective parameter identification for the evaluation of a failure model for FE-simulations has been carried out. This failure model is suitable to calculate different fracture elongation values among occurring triaxiality of a high-strength aluminium sheet metal alloy (AA7075). Various specimen geometries have been selected to achieve different loading states (triaxiality). For biaxial strains a forming limit curve (FLC) is converted by using mathematical formulations. To measure the equivalent local strains in the event of fracture an optical measurement system has been installed and adapted to a tensile testing machine. The failure curve and the material model which includes the extrapolated flow curve are implemented into the FE-simulation model. In order to improve the accuracy of the failure-curve a parameter optimization has been carried out. It shows that by using the optimised failure curve a high correlation between experimental and calculated force-displacement curves for any given specimen geometry can be achieved.

Abstract. Rolling is a metal forming process where slabs are passed through rollers to produce strips with specific dimensions and mechanical properties. This process is performed in hot or cold formats. In hot rolling, the workpiece is initially heated above its recrystallization temperature. During the hot rolling process, plastic deformation occurs as the material’s thickness decreases and elongation takes place along the longitudinal axis of the workpiece. Due to the incompressibility of plastic deformation, the material also expands in the transverse direction, a phenomenon known as sprea
