Abstract:
This chapter discusses regulation-dysregulation theory (RDT) and condition triggering. It outlines how specific types of social interactions influence CNS physiology, infrastructural functionality, cognition, and behavior; how the behavior of others in seemingly normal social environments trigger the onset of conditions in individuals who are either condition-predisposed or condition-vulnerable; and how the behavior of others in extremely adverse environments explains the onset of conditions in individuals who are neither predisposed nor vulnerable to conditions

Abstract:
Central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma must be considered in the differential diagnosis of any immunocompromised patient with a solid brain lesion. In such patients, diagnosis can be made via a careful review of important signs, symptoms, and classic radiologic findings. While there is no single physical exam finding classic for lymphoma, the clinician must carefully evaluate patients for the presence or absence of findings that may suggest an alternative diagnosis. Such findings include the stigmata of endocarditis, symptoms suggestive of pneumonia, or additional non-CNS mass lesions. Addition

Abstract:
This chapter adopts a systematic approach to common diagnoses in paediatric neurology, aetiologies, management to include investigation and treatment, and outcome. For each condition current knowledge on cause and underlying biology is summarized. A rational approach to investigation and treatment is summarized for each topic. These include: acquired brain injury; autoimmune and autoinflammatory disease of the CNS; cerebral palsy and neurodisability which covers feeding, communication, special senses, and respiratory disease; demyelinating disease; epilepsy including its impact on daily life;

Full text
Abstract:
The classic view of multiple sclerosis (MS) as a chronic, inflammatory-demyelinating condition affecting solely the white matter (WM) of the central nervous system (CNS) has been challenged by the demonstration, from pathologic and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies, of an extensive and diffuse involvement of the gray matter (GM). This observation has driven the application of modern MR technology and methods of analysis to quantify the extent and distribution of damage to the different compartments of the CNS, with the ultimate goal of improving our understanding of the factors associat

Abstract:
Postinfectious encephalomyelitis (PE) is an acute demyelinating monophasic disorder of the central nervous system (CNS). PE is thought to occur as an autoreactive response of the immune system as a consequence of an infectious agent or immunization. The treatment for this condition is usually high-dose systemic corticosteroids, IVIg, or plasma exchange. The overall prognosis for the disease is usually benign but severe cases have been reported.

While amphetamine and especially methamphetamine (speed) is being misused by all social classes in order to increase stamina, intellectual expansion, endurance, and euphoria, the drug 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine (MDMA) (ecstasy) is preferentially abused by the younger generation for the feeling of empathy, the touching within, and enhancement of the senses. Acute intoxication differs in regard to their effects on the person. The predominant sympathetic overstimulation after methamphetamine results in cardiovascular and CNS hyperactivity accompanied by agitation and seizures, while t

Central nervous system (CNS) vasculitis is an extremely challenging diagnostic and therapeutic disease. Multiple conditions, including reversible cerebral vasoconstrictive syndrome and intracranial atherosclerosis, can mimic it. Infections, systemic diseases, particularly systemic vasculitides, drug abuse, neoplasms, and some other disorders can cause secondary CNS vasculitis. Primary CNS vasculitis is extremely rare. A definite diagnosis requires a brain biopsy, which may show granulomatous inflammation, lymphocytic inflammation, and/or acute necrotizing vasculitis. The pathogeny remains unkn
