Abstract:
Purpose: to determine the main directions of training of teachers of physical culture in the People's Republic of China according to the data of modern literature.
Material and methods. The analysis of literature sources was carried out by working with scientific works, which are presented in the databases "Web of Science", "Scopus", "Pub Med" and others. The search for literary sources was carried out by the keywords: "physical education teacher training", "physical education", "sports", "coach training". A total of 10157 works were found based on key words, of which 33 works were selected for literary review. The selection was carried out as follows: first, the topic of the article was analyzed, then, if the topic corresponded to the direction of our study, the annotation was analyzed. If the annotation corresponded to the direction of our research, the text of the article was analyzed. Also in the analysis of literature sources, preference was given to sources presented in the quartiles "Web of Science" and "Scopus" 1-3 level. In addition, articles on the training of physical education and sports professionals in China were analyzed separately. Of the 33 works presented in the literature review, 15 sources - research, 10 - review, 8 - randomized trials.
Results. In the People's Republic of China, the problem of individual approach is especially relevant in connection with national characteristics, traditions, which provide for the predominance of collective action in all types of work. In addition to basic sports, the training of future physical education teachers in the People's Republic of China should include in-depth study of the sport in which it could improve and be a high-level specialist.
Conclusions. Training of physical education teachers in the People's Republic of China should be based on modern concepts of individualization, which apply to all stages of training: from choosing a sport in which the student would like to improve and receive a specialty of physical education teacher with professional knowledge of a particular sport. physical education teachers in the study of the chosen sport.

Abstract:
Reflection is a contested but taken for granted concept, whose meaning shifts to accommodate the interpretation and interests of those using the term. Subsequently, there is limited understanding of the concept. The purpose of this article was to consider critically the discursive complexities of reflection and their articulation through coach developers’ practice. Data were collected from a National High-Performance coach education program. Coach developers responsible for one-to-one support (n = 8) and on-program support (n = 3) participated in the research. Semistructured interviews were conducted with coach developers, and participant observations were undertaken of a coach developer forum and program workshops (n = 9). Foucault’s concepts: power, discourse, and discipline were used to examine data with critical depth. Analysis explored “Discourse of Reflection,” “Discipline, Power, and Reflection,” and “Coach Developers: Confession, ‘Empowerment,’ and Reflection.” Humanistic ideas constructed a discourse of reflection that was mobilized through coach confession. Coach developer efforts to be “critical” and “learner centered” were embroiled with intrinsic and subtle relations of power as “empowering” intent exacerbated rather than ameliorated its exercise. This article makes visible a different destabilized and problematized version of reflection, thus introducing an awkwardness into the fabric of our experiences of reflection.

Abstract:
197 Background: Lung Cancer Screening provides a mechanism to detect lung cancers at stages more amendable to curative resection. Nonetheless, data suggests Low Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) is underutilized as a screening tool; preventing medically eligible patients from diagnosis at earlier stages; leading to reduced treatment options and, ultimately, decreased survival. The Duke Cancer Network (DCN) consists of 12 affiliated cancer programs in 5 states. As several affiliates shared a common goal of improving the uptake of LDCT screening in the community, the DCN created a platform for process improvement in LDCT screening, individualized for participating sites. Methods: DCN-developed surveys for patients and providers explored attitudes toward LDCT screening, and identified targetable access issues and barriers to LDCT screening at DCN-affiliated community cancer centers (aCCC). Armed with the survey data, five aCCC self-selected to work with an experienced Quality/Process Improvement coach to develop individualized projects focusing on one or more aspects of the LDCT screening process. The Q/PI coaches utilized Bite-Size-QI software to facilitate the project and train participants in the QI/PI process. Results: Information from 312 patient and 28 of 50 surveyed providers identified numerous targetable LDCT screening barriers: lack of knowledge about and educational materials to address the benefits of LDCT and tools/analytics to track patients following LDCT screening. Additional, more systematic, barriers identified included: lack of consistent national guidelines for screening, variable insurance coverage and limited availability of smoking cessation programs. Five aCCC self-selected to create individualized process improvement activities were matched to experienced Q/PI coaches. Four sites completed the yearlong project. Three of the aCCC were able to realize improvement in LDCT screening rates with 38%, 27% and 8% increase in rates, respectively, despite overlap with COVID-19 driven shutdowns. Conclusions: An assessment of current state linked to formal Q/PI activities improved uptake of LDCT screening in the majority of participating community cancer programs despite limited resources. Geographically variable COVID-19 required closures did compromise the outcomes. The process led to creation of a number of tools and process improvements to increase awareness of LDCT screening through education and foster collaboration among providers with streamlined referral processes and improved mechanisms of tracking patients. Funding: Provided by AstraZeneca in collaboration with the Duke Cancer Network. Keywords: lung cancer, screening, community, oncology, improvement process, barriers.

Abstract:
Despite a growing body of research into sports coaching there remains little understanding of what it is like to coach elite junior tennis players. The purpose of this study was to examine the lived coaching experience of 8 UK, less experienced tennis coaches and describe what it is like to be a coach of an elite junior tennis player. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) of 8 less experienced tennis coaches (1 – 4 years-experience) provides a description of how they described elite junior tennis coaching. This study found that (a) self-employment makes coaching competitive, (b) less experienced coaches were surprised by the nature of parental interactions, and (c) less experienced coaches struggled to cope with the reality of coaching and this triggered disillusionment with coaching. The findings of this research contribute to an evolving, problematic epistemology of sports coaching and highlight a need for tennis coach education to improve the preparation of new coaches for their initiation into coaching. The findings present governing bodies opportunities to inform coach education literature and help tennis coaches to sustain themselves in an emotionally challenging role.

Despite a growing body of research into sports coaching there is little understanding of what it is like to coach elite junior tennis players. The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of 8 UK, experienced tennis coaches and describe what it is like to coach elite junior tennis players. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) of 8 experienced tennis coaches (over 10 years-experience) shows their insights into elite junior tennis coaching and provides avenues of comparison with the experiences of younger tennis coaches (Gowling, 2019). This study found that (a) experienced tennis coaches described a panoramic view of coaching, (b) experienced coaches were confident in their coaching effectiveness, and (c) acceptance of challenges in coaching helped experienced coaches develop effective coping mechanisms to sustain their emotional well-being and motivation to coach for long careers. The findings of this research contribute to an evolving, problematic epistemology of sports coaching and confirms that the experiences of existing coaches could contribute to more effective training of coaches. The findings present governing bodies opportunities to inform coach education literature and help tennis coaches to sustain themselves in an emotionally challenging role.

Abstract:
It is common for sport science practitioners, including sport biomechanists, to interact with high-performance coaches in the daily training environment. These relationships are beneficial for both scientist and coach, as well as the athletes. However, as indicated by difficulties in transferring new research into coaching practice, these relationships are not functioning as well as they could. The aim of this paper is to examine the various factors that influence the coach–biomechanist relationship in the elite sprinting context and gain an understanding of what impedes and enhances this, which will ultimately maximise an athlete's performance. Sprint coaches ( n = 56) and applied sport biomechanists ( n = 12) were surveyed to determine the participants' experiences working with each other and use of biomechanics in the training environment. Semi-structured interviews with coaches ( n = 8) and biomechanists ( n = 8) were conducted to further explore these ideas. From the biomechanists perspective, the relationship appeared to be less effective than from the coaches' perspective and both groups identified areas for improvement. The coaches had an inconsistent understanding of biomechanics theory and the support a biomechanist could provide in the training environment, while it was acknowledged that biomechanists needed to improve their communication skills. Coach and practitioner education were identified as where these improvements could be facilitated. There are many aspects of the coach–biomechanist relationship that could contribute to establishing optimal practice in the high-performance environment and enhance the transfer of knowledge from scientist to coach. This paper proposes a number of directions that could be taken.

"ESTABLISHING A VALID AND RELIABLE COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT FOR GYMNASTICS COACH CERTIFICATION." Thesis, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10388/ETD-2014-08-1629.

Full text
Abstract:
Coaches in Canada are trained through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) administered by The Coaching Association of Canada. The NCCP is the national standard and recently shifted its educational emphasis from the transfer of knowledge to the development of coaching competency. As a result, coaches are required to demonstrate competency in a specified sport and level prior to being awarded a coaching certification. The purpose of this study was to establish validity and reliability of an NCCP coaching competency assessment. Gymnastics Canada agreed to have their Community Sport coaching competency instrument tested for content validity, face validity, inter-rater reliability and intra-rater reliability. Their original assessment instrument was revised during content validity testing based on recommendations from five coaching context experts. Removing six items, adding one item, and revising four items for clarity modified the original 48-item instrument. An assessment of overall competency was added to the instrument to rate the coach as Beginner, Competent, Proficient, or Expert. Three certified coaches confirmed the face validity of the modified instrument. Reliability tests were conducted on the ratings provided by ten experts who observed a coach’s lesson on video. The result was a moderate level of inter-rater reliability, displayed by an Agreement Coefficient (AC1) of 0.43 and a Percent of Agreement (PA) of 72%. Nine of the ten raters assessed the coach’s performance as Competent, Proficient or Expert, while one of the ten rated the coach as Beginner. After a repeat observation of the same coaching performance, the intra-rater reliability of five raters resulted in agreement levels of Moderate (AC1 = 0.45; PA = 67%), Substantial (AC1 = 0.75, 0.77; PA = 81%, 89%), and Almost Perfect (AC1 = 0.87, 0.82; PA = 93%, 90%). The modified instrument has content and face validity. However, its usefulness is impacted by variability in rater preferences. The inter-rater reliability results attest to concerns about the consistency in assessment of a coaching certificate for Community Sport Artistic Gymnastics coaches. Suggestions to improve the reliability of the instrument include training raters to classify the coach’s competency on a standardized scale of sport-specific expertise.
