Coagulation treatment is often performed prior to sedimentation and filtration. A coagulant is introduced to the wastewater and is used to remove suspended materials from water. Plant-based coagulants (PBC) are a type of coagulant that is widely used for the treatment of contaminated water in less urban areas because they appear to be lower in carrying cost-treated coagulates when compared to artificial coagulants. Citrus fruits are a type of PBC that is ongoing research. These naturally coagulate due to the presence of certain compounds, such as pectin, which is a structural fibre. In this st

Abstract:
Cationic polypeptide proteins found in the seeds of the tropical plant Moringa oleifera have coagulation efficiencies similar to aluminum and ferric sulfates without their recalcitrant nature. Although these proteins possess great potential to augment or replace traditional coagulants in water treatment, harvesting active protein from seeds is laborious and not cost-effective. Here, we describe an alternative method to express and secrete active M. oleifera coagulant protein (MO) in Bacillus subtilis. A plasmid library containing the MO gene and 173 different types of secretory signal peptides

Abstract:
Dissolved air flotation (DAF) is an effective technique for algae separation following the application of flocculants and coagulants. Some harmful algae produce mucilage or extracellular polymeric substances useful for flotation. This study evaluated natural polysaccharides to determine effects on algal flotation with DAF. Food-grade gums (xanthan gum, guar gum, gum arabic, gellan gum, and diutan gum) were tested with cyanobacteria cultures singly and in combination with commercial flocculants (including Tramfloc 222 and Tramfloc 300). Gum arabic alone had no effect when evaluated at concentra
