Cola beverages are often made available to competitors during endurance sporting events. This thesis describes a series of investigations examining the frequency and possible physiological consequences of cola beverage use by trained endurance athletes. An initial field study assessed the knowledge, prevalence and quantity of caffeine use by athletes competing at the 2005 Ironman® Triathlon World Championships.
