Full textThe study aimed to evaluate the binge-drinking among drugs users. It is a cross-sectional study of a quantitative approach. The study was developed in a Psychosocial Attention Center - Alcohol and drugs. The sample was composed of 140 drug users in treatment. The tools of data collection were: sociodemographic information, Short Alcohol Dependence Data (SADD), The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT-C), Severity Dependence Scale (SDS), Cocaine Craving Questionnaire-Brief (CCQ-Brief) and Drinker Inventory of Consequences (DrInC). The sample was characterized predominantly by being adults, males, singles, black / brown color, with low education level, who professed the Catholic religion. Most participants made the use of alcohol in binge-drinking and severe levels of alcoholism and addiction. In the present sample was not identified associations between the binge- drinking and violence situations. Users also present more serious consequences in the physical, interpersonal, intrapersonal aspects, impulse control and social responsibility evaluated by DrInC scale. Heavy use of alcohol has been a very common practice for cocaine and crack users, which represents serious risks to physical and social health of these users. The results indicate the need for intervention strategies of alcohol use control with this population

Full textIntroduction: Drug use is a public health problem and combating crack highlights one of the weaknesses of the current health system in Brazil. The levels of care are not integrated and there is a lack of systematic knowledge for dealing with this problem in Primary Health Care. Objective: Search through Systematic Review, effective approaches in the management of adult crack users in the context of the Primary Health. Methodology: A Systematic Review performed in major electronic databases and additional studies in the period 2003-2013, in adults older than 19 years old, crack users, irrespective of study design and including for Portuguese, Spanish or English . We used two evaluation instruments to grade scientific evidence - the Health Evidence Bulletin Wales, 2004 and the Grade Working Group (2008). Results: Of 2017 studies found from literature searches, and after two selection steps 31 studies were elected and 16 articles included, 6 with observational and 10 intervention designs. Two observational studies were evaluated with good quality and among the ten intervention studies, one study was classified with moderate quality of evidence, five with low quality of evidence and four with very low quality of evidence. Conclusions: This Systematic Review did not obtain articles with evidence of high quality to be oriented to the context of Primary Health Care. The limit set for search of studies over the past decade, limited the supply of references with evidence, and the guidelines prior to this period remain. However, it was possible to outline a proposal for this context which can be detailed and should be evaluated by peers, experts in Primary Health Care.

Full textCocaine use among opioid dependent persons is common, with an estimated 40 to 70% of those seeking treatment for opioid dependence, also using cocaine (Sullivan et al., 2011 ). The effects of cocaine use on treatment outcomes for those seeking medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid dependence are not well understood. Buprenorphine, prescribed under the brand name Suboxone, has recently emerged as a convenient, effective method of MAT. The Facilitated Access to Substance Abuse Treatment with Prevention And Treatment of HIV (FAST PATH) program at Boston Medical Center, is a research study to provide substance abuse treatment along with primary care and HIV risk-reduction counseling to those afflicted with these epidemics. The objective of this study was to determine the association of cocaine use with treatment retention and opioid abstinence at six months for patients receiving buprenorphine in the FAST PATH program. A prospective cohort study was conducted on 116 patients enrolled in the FAST PATH program through 02/01/2012. Assessments were conducted at baseline and six months to evaluate the association between baseline cocaine use and treatment retention as well as opioid abstinence at six months. Baseline cocaine use was measured by either any urine toxicology screen positive for cocaine prior to study enrollment or 30 day self-reported cocaine use on the initial assessment. Of the 116 participants, 39% were positive for cocaine use at baseline and 52% were HIV positive. Baseline cocaine use had no effect significant on treatment retention or opioid abstinence at six months. Among all the participant characteristics measured, there were no significant differences between the cocaine positive (n=45) and cocaine negative (n=71) groups. In adjusted analysis, age was the only covariate which was significant at predicting the odds of treatment retention or opioid abstinence with a 1.11 (p-value = 0.0003) and 1.08 (p-value = 0.02) greater odds of each, respectively. Although cocaine use did not affect the dependent variables, integrated substance abuse and primary care clinics utilizing buprenorphine are a rich area of future research. Specifically, subsequent studies should determine how varied groups of opioid dependent persons perform within this framework, and the underlying characteristics moderating their outcomes.

Full textThis study aimed to analyze the phenomenon of abdication of monitoring/treatment of crack users in a CAPS AD in Campina Grande-PB. That s an exploratory , description approach ,whose theoretical focus was historical-dialect of public politics on alcohol and drugs. The information collected was realized by using the technique of semi-structured interviews, combined with the crack users registered in CAPS AD in Campina Grande between 2007 and 2011.The material collected was subjected to thematic analysis method, obtaining the extraction of the following categories and subcategories of analysis: CATEGORY 1: Factors of abdication of monitoring/treatment in CAPS AD in Campina Grande PB with subcategory 1.1. Abdication on their own , 1.2. To take work/employment, 1.3 . Search for more intensive treatment , 1.4. Due to relapse; CATEGORY 2 : Treatment/monitoring in CAPS AD to the subcategory, 2.1. The dependence of crack and family support as reasons that led to frequent CAPS AD. CATEGORY 3: Living with crack addiction without treatment/monitoring in CAPS AD with the subcategory, 3.1. Religiosity as a therapeutic tool .The results showed a distance between priority for community treatment and the reality where there is lack of information about this kind of treatment and the admission as a solution. The discourse about the abdication of treatment of crack users make reference to the importance of family support, to the influence for the phenomenon of relapse and the affection to religious conceptions. Although the subjects recognize the qualifications of CAPS AD treatment, they try by themselves or by family influence, another ways of hospitalization. This leads us to conclude that it is necessary reflection and assessment of the work of CAPS AD. Counting on the social changes and the need of answers that the phenomenon requires

Full textThe present PhD thesis analyses the preserving capacity and the sensory quality of different meat-or-fish-based dishes which are cooked by using the sous vide method and recreating the conditions of catering industry. The aim was to study the spoilage and to determine the shelf-life of these products to introduce technological improvements. For this purpose, several parameters were established: microbiological (aerobic and anaerobic psychrotrophs, lactic acid bacteria, Enterobacteriaceae, mould and yeasts), physical-chemical (pH, aw, acidity, instrumental texture and colour CIELab) and sensory (QDA of the appearance, colour, odour, flavour and texture). The results indicated that the periods of time and temperatures which are recommended to cook sous vide meat or fish guaranteed a correct pasteurization which prevented the proliferation, at 2 ºC, of Enterobacteriaceae and altering microorganisms. Only the sensory analysis permitted the evaluation of the spoilage of the sous vide cooked meat or fish during their storage. All this would leave a considerable safety margin in the cooking process so that the sensory quality could be adjusted. Besides, no noticeable variations of humidity, acidity, colour or texture were detected by the physical-chemical techniques, which were employed.

The object of this study is the encounter between a team of Primary Health called Consultório na Rua – CR (Office in the Street), whose objective is to facilitate homeless persons access to the other services of the Sistema Único de Saúde – SUS (Unified Health System), and those who may or may not become its users. Many of these encounters occur in the so-called crack use scenes, popularly known as cracolândias. Hence, we highlight also the relationships woven with this drug by those who use them, the team that seeks to meet these users and the other institutions involved in these scenes. Therefore, we use ethnography as a means to comprehend the problems that emerge from these different encounters, specially the ones related to the CR, the crack cocaine and the other institutions posed by the persons who inhabit these scenes. The functioning of CR becomes intelligible, as well as the functioning of crack cocaine and other institutions. Finally, we propose a certain bioethics able to face this subject matte

Full textThis dissertation consists of the study of the meat consumption by the nobility group during the 13th and 14th centuries in France and its cultural meaning, based on the analysis of the culinary treatise Le Viandier de Taillevent. The research work began with the translation of the referred document to Portuguese and cataloguing of recipes and respective ingredients. Subsequently, analogical comparisons were made between Le Viandier de Taillevent and two further French culinary documents from the same period, Le Fabliau de Cocagne and the treatise Le Ménagier de Paris. The development is supported by a specialized bibliography on nourishment habits in the Middle Ages, from which Le Viandier de Taillevent was put into perspective. The analysis of the consumption of meat and its symbolic meaning for the social context are presented and related to the exercise of power, economy, religion, and dietetics and cooking.

In contemporary times, the crack is the drug that is most alarming Brazil, about to be treated epidemiologically. Studies point out that they are different types of presentation of the cocaine derivatives, which are: salt, crack, home folder, the latter being the form used in Mato Grosso, due to the nearby border with producing countries. Therefore, the base folder or crack tends to be interpreted symbolically differently compared to other psychoactive substances, being understood as socially responsible by most contemporary problems, making secondary problems and issues related to the drugs and not prohibited for purposes prescribed medication whose harmful effects caused by improper use or not, end up being invisible on the agendas of government discussions. Thus, the question requires analysis in multidimensional views, which are capable of interacting individual experience, biographies, with the macro-structural approaches, as well as the psychosocial work organization, knowledge and therapies that accompany and harmonize with other care alternatives, or with the various social groups that provide support to the diseased. All this a challenge to socio-anthropological research, being here in this case, think of the essential impacts of the disease on families. Therefore, availing ourselves of the theoretical and methodological experience chronic conditions that accompany people everywhere, causing them to live with, despite the illness addressing both the ideas that these families have about drugs and their consumers, as well as ways to manage the consequences of that use. It was this perspective that has been defined as an object of study to investigate the experience of family members who live daily with people who use cocaine base paste. Understand the meanings of the use of cocaine base paste by family becomes relevant to sociocultural approaches that will get recognition towards an improvement of actions formulated and implemented by the health system, targeting this segment. It was concluded that for the family, drugs are not new, but the discovery of the use in its midst surprises, shocks, mobilizing stigma and feelings of powerlessness. Drugs are usually identified by the unlawfulness, featuring strong moral content of the question, being tolerated the drug. The explanations for engagement with the use, involve vicissitudes and vulnerabilities of people that made them susceptible to bad company. It is necessary to better involvement of health professionals with this issue.
