Abstract:
AbstractFinite ρ-groups with all of their maximal subgroups isomorphic are studied by means of the coclass. All such groups of coclass I and 2 are determined, while those of coclass 3 are shown to have order at most ρ13. A general bound for the order is given as a function of ρ and the coclass only.

In this paper we take a significant step forward in the classification of 3-groups of coclass 2. Several new phenomena arise. Theoretical and computational tools have been developed to deal with them. We identify and are able to classify an important subset of the 3-groups of coclass 2. With this classification and further extensive computations, it is possible to predict the full classification. On the basis of the work here and earlier work on the p-groups of coclass 1, we formulate another general coclass conjecture. It implies that, given a prime p and a positive integer r, a finite comput

AbstractLet G be a p-group, and let χ be an irreducible character of G. The codegree of χ is given by {\lvert G:\operatorname{ker}(\chi)\rvert/\chi(1)}. Du and Lewis have shown that a p-group with exactly three codegrees has nilpotence class at most 2. Here we investigate p-groups with exactly four codegrees. If, in addition to having exactly four codegrees, G has two irreducible character degrees, G has largest irreducible character degree {p^{2}}, {\lvert G:G^{\prime}\rvert=p^{2}}, or G has coclass at most 3, then G has nilpotence class at most 4. We introduce the concept of infinite cochain sequences and initiate a theory of homological algebra for them. We show how these sequences simplify and improve the construction of infinite coclass families (as introduced by Eick and Leedham-Green) and also how they can be applied to prove that almost all groups in such a family have equivalent Quillen categories. We also include some examples of infinite families of$p$-groups from different coclass families that have equivalent Quillen categories.

AbstractAn old question of Brauer that asks how fast numbers of conjugacy classes grow is investigated by considering the least number cn of conjugacy classes in a group of order 2n. The numbers cn are computed for n ≤ 14 and a lower bound is given for c15. It is observed that cn grows very slowly except for occasional large jumps corresponding to an increase in coclass of the minimal groups Gn. Restricting to groups that are 2-generated or have coclass at most 3 allows us to extend these computations.

In 1980 Leedham-Green and Newman made a series of conjectures on the structure of pro-p groups and finite p-groups of a given coclass [10]. These insightful conjectures have gradually been proved, in a series of papers (some of which are still unpublished) by Leedham-Green, Donkin, McKay and Plesken (see, e.g. [11, 2, 8, 9, 13, 14]). Some simplifications (as well as additional information) have recently been given in [12, 15].

CoClass is considered to be the solution for the lack of communication and will eventually phase out the existing BSAB96 classification system. CoClass is a modern classification system and is adapted for digital information management. CoClass focuses on buildings' full life cycles, instead of production only as BSAB96 does. Newman and O'Brien (in 1999) conjectured the number of descendants of 2n for all n. What we eat, where it is from, and how it is produced are vital questions in today’s America. We think seriously about food because it is freighted with the hopes, fears, and anxieties of modern life. Yet critiques of food and food systems all too often sprawl into jeremiads against modernity itself, while supporters of the status quo refuse to acknowledge the problems with today’s methods of food production and distribution. Food Fights sheds new light on these crucial debates, using a historical lens. Its essays take strong positions, even arguing with one another, as they explore the many t
