Abstract:
Code mixing (or transitioning from one code arrangement to another) is one of the hottest topics in contemporary linguistics. Kodlar aralashuvi is the transliteration of the English term code mixing (or code-switching), which first appeared in 1970s English linguistics. Prior to the use of this term, R. Yakobson drew attention to this phenomenon: “Any general code is multi-form, it is a hierarchical (stepped) set of different subcodes freely chosen by the speaker according to the function of the message, the relationship between the addressee and the interlocutors.”

Abstract:
The study aimed to analyze Code-switching and Code-mixing between English and Indonesian language used by the lecturer in teaching the subject Communicative English Grammar for the second semester students of English education department of STAI DDI Pinrang. The method applied was qualitative descriptive. The data source was the utterances of the lecturer in teaching Communicative English Grammar. The data were collected by recording what the lecturer uttered in teaching-learning process and interviewing the lecturer to gain information about the functions of switching and mixing his code in teaching-learning process. Then, the collected data were classified and analyzed based on the types of code-switching and code-mixing and the functions based on the theory of Hoffman. The results showed that:1)The types of code-switching used by the lecturer of Communicative English Grammar in teaching and learning process were: inter-sentential, intra-sentential, and emblamatic/tag switching, and establishing continuity with the previous speaker. while for the types of code-mixing were: intra-sentential code mixing, intra-lexical code mixing, and involving a change of pronunciation; 2) The Functions or reasons of using both code-switching and code-mixing by the lecturer of Communicative English Grammar were: Repetition used for clarification, Intention of clarifying the speech content for students, and interjection. The findings implied that both code-switching and code-mixing were used by the communicative English grammar lecturer in English teaching-learning process, so it showed that both code-switching and code-mixing are necessary to facilitate ELT particularly in complicated subjets like grammar. In other words, the lecturers should consider the usage of both of them to meet the objectives of ELT. Keywords: Code-Switching, Code-Mixing, English Language Teaching

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to argue that the process of code-mixing is constrained by the government relation that holds between the constituents of a sentence. The government constraint replaces a number of specific constraints that have been proposed in the literature to account for apparently ‘impossible’, ‘ungrammatical’ or ‘non-occurring’ types of intra-sentential switches. Code-mixing is a form of linguistic behaviour which produces utterances consisting of elements taken from the lexicons of different languages. Some examples are given in (1).

Abstract:
In ordinary life, we frequently speak in a language that is not understood by others. When communicating, we frequently employ language switching or merging, also known as code switching and code mixing. Which seeks to make the interlocutor more understandable. Code switching and code mixing are used in today’s works of art, particularly films, to communicate amongst actors in their own films. This is done not just as a trick, but also because there is a lot of terminology from foreign languages that has been assimilated into Indonesian and is used more frequently. So the purpose of this research is to look at and learn about the many sorts of code switching and code mixing in the IMPERFECT film, as well as the rationale for using code switching and code mixing in the IMPERFECT film.

Abstract:
Translation has largely been considered a process involving only two languages, source and target. However, plurilingual audiovisual content has proliferated over the last few decades, reflecting, as a result, the world’s linguistic intermingling. Such a plurality complicates both theoretical categorizations and translation practices. Even though multilingualism in the media has received scholarly attention, more explorations are needed to ascertain the translation processes and methods adopted to handle linguistically diverse source texts in the streaming era. The present piece of research tentatively explores the treatment given to Cantonese and English code-mixing and code-switching present in Hongkonese films and TV shows currently streamed on Netflix, the video-on-demand platform. This article probes a selection of such content and compares the original dialogues with official Chinese, English and Spanish subtitles. Preliminary results point towards a loss of linguistic diversity and nuance caused by subtitling processes. The differentiated roles that both languages originally play in creating comedic, stylistic, or emphatic effects are rarely retained, possibly affecting viewers’ reception and appreciation. This article argues that further attention should be paid to the translation and adaptation of code-mixing and code-switching present in Hongkonese creations, both by the industry and academia, if such a multilingual reality is to be portrayed successfully via subtitles.

Abstract:
Code-mixing is a phenomenon where two or more languages are combined in speech or writing. It occurs when individuals use elements from different languages within a single utterance, whether it be a word, phrase, or clause. Code-mixing is not limited to oral communication; it is also prevalent in written forms, including literary works such as novels. One of the novels that employs code-mixing is Antares by Rweinda. The characters in the novel utilize code-mixing to communicate with each other. Therefore, this study addresses two main questions: what are the types and forms of code-mixing present in the novel Antares by Rweinda. The types of code-mixing include inner and outer code-mixing, while the forms of code-mixing encompass words, phrases, and clauses. This study aims to examine and describe the types and forms of code-mixing in Rweinda's novel, Antares. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method to effectively describe the data, focusing on the main research objectives. The results indicated the presence of two types of code-mixing: six instances of inner code-mixing, including Sundanese and Javanese, and thirteen instances of outer code-mixing, such as English and Arabic. Meanwhile, in terms of form, code-mixing was observed in fourteen instances in word forms, where English words dominated. Additionally, five instances were identified in phrase form, also predominantly consisting of English words. However, no instances of code-mixing were found in clause form.

Abstract:
In recent years, the sociolinguistic theory of code-switching and code-mixing has been a source of great interest among scholars worldwide. The phenomenon is common in such multilingual societies as India. Most known cases of code-switching are, however, restricted to the spoken form, in which English is liberally interspersed with such regional languages as Hindi, Marathi, and Telugu. What has not yet significantly caught the attention of scholars is the notion of such switching and mixing in print. This practice is however particularly prevalent among writers in popular magazines, who resort to written code-switching for a variety of reasons. The present paper endeavours to examine the causes of the popularity of this style of writing in the light of some accepted theories of multilingualism.

Abstract:
As a linguistic phenomenon, code mixing is common to be identified in language users. Furthermore, YouTube as one of the online platforms has become an environment rich with the use of code mixing. Considering that YouTube might influence the language use in its audience, the following study aimed to identify the use of code-mixing presented by Indonesian content creator named Nessie Judge. Following the qualitative analysis research from Miles, Huberman, & Saldana (2014), the recent study identified the types of code mixing as presented by Hoffman namely, Intra-sentential code-mixing and Intra-lexical code-mixing. The present study identified the use of code mixing type intra-sentential and -lexical uttered by the speaker. From 114 utterances made by Nessie Judge in her video, code-mixing was identified in 86 utterances, where 53 utterances belong to intra-sentential code mixing and 13 utterances belonged to intra-lexical code mixing. The analysis revealed that the use of code mixing might be rooted in the speakers’ inability to find the equivalent words while discussing the video content. By looking at the number of the data percentage, intra-sentential code-mixing had more data than intra-lexical code-mixing meaning that the use of intra-sentential code-mixing was more common rather than intra-lexical code-mixing. It can be concluded because the speaker in the video inserts English words at the end of sentences or in the middle of sentences most of the time. The speaker on the video was clearly seen mixed Indonesian words with English words without changing the structure or context of the sentences.

<p align="center"><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>This conceptual paper aims to examine the use and application of code-switching and code-mixing among users of social media based on recent studies in Sociolinguistics. Communication in general has evolved tremendously in the 21st century, as it has made interactions with people all around the world much faster and easier. Social media is an important platform that allows these interactions to take place. Having multiple users from different countries influences the utilization of the first language (mother tongue), code-switching, code-mixing and borrowed words. Social media users have been shown to extensively use code-mixing and code-switching, particularly among speakers in the bilingual or multilingual society. Thus, this conceptual paper will attempt to deliberate on the use of code-switching as well as code-mixing among users of social media; namely people’s preference of social media, types and use of code-switching and code-mixing on social media, and lastly factors which influence the use of code-switching and code-mixing on social media.</p><p> </p><p>Keywords: Code switching; Code mixing; Sociolinguistics; Social media</p>
