In the background of all human thinking—acting and reacting are sets of connections between different neurons or groups of neurons. We studied and evaluated these connections using electroencephalography (EEG) brain signals. In this paper, we propose the use of the complex Pearson correlation coefficient (CPCC), which provides information on connectivity with and without consideration of the volume conduction effect. Although the Pearson correlation coefficient is a widely accepted measure of the statistical relationships between random variables and the relationships between signals, it is no

Correlation methods are indispensable in the study of the linear relationship between two variables. However, many researchers often adopt inappropriate correlation methods in the study of linear relationships which usually leads to unreliable results. Recurrently, most researchers ignorantly employ the Pearson method in a dataset that contained outliers, instead of more appropriate correlation methods such as Spearman, Kendall Tau, Median and Quadrant which might be suitable in the calculation of correlation coefficient in the presence of influential outliers. It is noted that the accuracy of

Abstract:
Despite the ever-increasing interest in the field of text similarity methods, the development of adequate text similarity methods is lagging. Some methods are decent in entailment while others are reasonable to the degree to which two texts are similar. Very often, these methods are compared using Pearson’s correlation; however, Pearson’s correlation is bound to outliers that could affect the final correlation coefficient figure. As a result, the Pearson correlation is inadequate to find which text similarity method is better in situations where data items are very similar

Repeated measures are increasingly collected in a study to investigate the trajectory of measures over time. One of the first research questions is to determine the correlation between two measures. The following five methods for correlation calculation are compared: (1) Pearson correlation; (2) correlation of subject means; (3) partial correlation for subject effect; (4) partial correlation for visit effect; and (5) a mixed model approach. Pearson correlation coefficient is traditionally used in a cross-sectional study. Pearson correlation is close to the correlations computed from mixed-effe

In this paper, we propose a Pearson correlation based anomaly detection algorithm to detect CAN message modification attacks. Abstract:
The U.S. population is aging rapidly. As people get older, they increasingly face issues such as increased susceptibility to injuries and the need to be assisted with many day-to-day activities. Older adults have the opportunity to opt-in to live in an older adult community (OAC) based on their needs and capabilities. This study comprehensively reviews existing governing development regulations and design criteria related to the older adults’ communities, conducts surveys among people involved with some of these communities in California, and recommends improvements to community design for act

Abstract:
Under a model having a Kronecker product covariance structure with compound symmetry or circular symmetry, two-sample hypothesis testing for the equality of two correlation parameters is considered. Different tests are proposed by using the ratio of independent F distributions. Several tests are compared with the proposed ones and practical recommendations are made based on their type I error probabilities and powers. Finally, all mentioned tests are applied to a real data example.
