Abstract:
One of the main advantages of cognitive linguistics (and in particular Cognitive Grammar) over other approaches to the study of language structure is the fact that every descriptive construct is defined in psychological terms. This means, ideally, that any cognitive linguistic description of a word or grammatical construction constitutes a hypothesis about the mental representation of that structure. It should thus be possible to verify such descriptions, or to decide between competing analyses of a phenomenon, by experimentally testing the hypotheses that they entail. Such tests have been rar

Cognitive dissonance has traditionally been defined as the negative affective state which accompanies inconsistent cognitions and motivates one to make the cognitions consistent. This thesis critically evaluates two theories about cognitive dissonance. The action-based model of dissonance argues that inconsistent cognitions have the potential to interfere with effective and unconflicted action. The new look model of dissonance, contradicting the traditional definition of dissonance, argues that it is aversive consequences rather than inconsistent cognitions that cause dissonance. Recent studies in cognitive science—in embodied, extended, embedded, and enactive approaches to mind—demonstrate the extent to which our psychological development is deeply and inextricably shaped not just within the confines of the brain, but also in the

Si l’avenir de notre planète dépend en effet, comme le confirme Roberts et al. Si la connaissance des écosystèmes méditerranéens, la maitrise des techniques d’ingénierie écologique témoignent d’importantes avancées au courant des dernières décennies, le transfert sur le terrain et la mise en œuvre de ce
