Objective: The goal of this research was to explore how the design of clothing, specifically the design of the suit, can create height illusions. Background: Taller people enjoy many advantages, such as increased income and perceived attractiveness. These advantages motivate people to try to appear taller than they actually are, and clothing experts provide advice on how to accomplish this. However, there is little empirical evidence to validate the illusory effects clothing might have on overall height perception. For millennia magicians have entertained their audiences by manipulating perception, as well as other cognitive processes, such as attention, memory, and decision-making. In the past decade psychologists and neuroscientists have realized that this intuitive knowledge magicians have about the human mind can be used to further investigate some aspects of human perception and cognition, from a novel perspective. Whilst most of the research done in this field, to date, has been focused on subjects’ behavioural responses elicited by a magic trick, very little has used the unparalleled nature of the

One of the studied factors has been the affective touch, a caress-like, gentle, touch that is performed at a slow specific speed (1-10 cm/sec). Action has many influences on how and what we perceive. One robust example of the relationship between action and subsequent perception, which has recently received great attention in the cognitive sciences, is the “intentional binding” effect: When people estimate the timing of their actions and those actions’ effects, they judge the actions and effects as having occurred closer together in time than two events that do not involve voluntary action (Haggard, Clark, & Kalogeras, 2002).
