Abstract:
The design process and construction of the initial modular ramjet attachment to the Cal Poly supersonic wind tunnel is presented. The design of a modular inlet, combustor, and nozzle are studied in depth with the intentions of testing in the modular ramjet. The efforts undertaken to characterize the Cal Poly supersonic wind tunnel and the individual component testing of this attachment are also discussed. The data gathered will be used as a base model for future expansion of the ramjet facility and eventual hot fire testing of the initial components. Modularity of the inlet, combustion chamber,

Emissions from gasoline engines remain an important issue worldwide as they are both harmful to health and contribute to green house effects especially under cold start conditions. A major challenge of the automotive industry is to reduce harmful emissions as much as possible whilst continuing to reduce CO2 emissions. Three-way-catalytic converters have been used very successfully to convert the harmful gases before release to the environment but these devices have to reach their light-off temperature in order to activate the chemical reactions. The design trend for light duty diesel engines is towards lower compression ratio and higher turbocharger boost. This can enable higher specific power and lower pollutant emissions to be achieved, but raises concerns that cold start operation might be adversely affected. This is investigated and quantified through the study of a modern light duty diesel engine at two compression ratios and temperatures down to -20ºC. Key indicators of cold start performance are the magnitude and cycle-to-cycle variation of indicated mean effective pressure. Initial studies were carried out at 300 rpm, a speed

The quenching of hydrocarbon flames on cold surfaces is considered to be a potential source of unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) emissions from internal combustion engines, but its contribution to emissions has been difficult to determine due to the strong coupling between physics, chemistry and flame/wall geometry. This is particularly problematic for high pressure direct injection (HPDI) engines where high pressures, inhomogeneous mixtures and complex piston geometry are present. D.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, 2006.
Includes bibliographical references (p. 163-165).
An experimental study was performed to investigate strategies for reducing cold start hydrocarbon (HC) emissions from port fuel injected (PFI) spark ignition (SI) engines with better use of existing hardware and control systems. Engine experiments and computer simulations were used for three major phases of the project: the effect of variable valve timing on first cycle mixture preparation, the interaction between fuel injection and valve events

The present research project is carried out at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (Rhode-Saint-Genèse, Belgium) with the financial support of the European Space Agency.

The first stage of spacecrafts (e.g. Ariane 5, Vega, Shuttle) generally consists of large solid propellant rocket motors (SRM), which often consist of segmented structure and incorporate a submerged nozzle. During the combustion, the regression of the solid propellant surrounding the nozzle integration part leads to the formation of a cavity around the nozzle lip. The propellant combustion generates liquefied alum

Abstract:
No
The increasing complexity in the development and manufacturing process of internal combustion engines leads to a higher demand for more effective testing and monitoring methods. Cold engine testing becomes progressively the main End-of-Line test which is used nowadays from automotive engine manufacturers with the purpose of determining the integrity of engine assembly. The present work is focused on the development of a detailed physics-based, lumped-parameter, dynamic model of a single cylinder internal combustion engine coupled with an alternating current transient dynamometer for cold

碩士
國立雲林科技大學
機械工程系碩士班
90
The research is performed against a YAMAHA ME200F three cylinders direct injection marine diesel engine. The target of this study is to explore the effects of fuel injection velocity, injection angle, and the Sauter mean radius on the engine’s in-cylinder temperature, pressure, flow field, spray pattern, turbulent kinetic energy (TKE), and the HC concentration distributions in the cylinder. These findings can suggest the manufacture a better engine parameter set to achieve excellent fuel/air mixing efficiency. The KIVA-II program is a phenomenol
