This International Workshop on Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion was an outcome of the collaborative effort by the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies (GSWS) at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Canada and the Research Center for Gender and Development of Hohai University (HHU) in Nanjing, China. In 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the SFU Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) and the HHU School of Public Administration was signed by both universities. One of the stated objectives was to organize a collaborative international workshop on gender and diversity at SFU in 2019.

Feinstein, Robert, Joseph Connelly, and Marilyn Feinstein, eds. Integrating Behavioral Health and Primary Care. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780190276201.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
This book describes real-world examples and practical approaches for integrating behavioral and physical health services in primary care and some specialty medical environments. Integrated care models are patient-centered; delivered by teams of medical professionals, utilize care coordination, and a population-based approach. This book is comfortably accessible to students, residents, faculty, and all mental health professionals, primary care and medical specialists who are working in ambulatory/office-based practices. We examine the integrated care literature and recommend applying collaborative care and other existing models of integrated care based on the existing evidence-based research. When there is no literature supporting a specific approach, our experts offer their ideas and take an aspirational approach about how to manage and treat specific behavioral disorder or problems. We assume the use of a fully integrated team staffing model while also recognizing this an ideal that may need modification based on local resources and practice cultures. The full integrated team includes a primary care or specialist provider(s), front desk staff, medical assistant(s), nurse(s), nurse practitioners, behavioral health specialist(s), health coaches, consulting psychiatrist, and care coordinator(s)/manager(s). The book has four sections: Part 1: Models of Integrated Care provides an overview of the principles and the framework of integrated care focusing on five highly successful integrated practices. We also discuss team-based care, financing, tele-behavioral health, and use of mental health assessments and outcome measures. Part 2: Integrative Care for Psychiatry and Primary Care is a review of existing and proposed models of integrated care for common psychiatric disorders. Our continuity approach emphasizes problem identification, differential diagnosis, brief treatment, and yearlong critical pathways with tables and figures detailing “how to” effectively deliver mental health care and manage substance misuse in an integrated care environment. Part 3: Integrated Care for Medical Sub-Specialties & Behavioral Medicine Conditions in Primary Care focuses on two models of integrating behavioral health care: (1) integrating wellness with behavioral health and (2) integrating psychiatry and neurology. Other chapters are “Women’s Mental Health Across the Reproductive Lifespan,” “Assessing and Treating Sexual Problems in an Integrated Care Environment,” “Integrated Chronic Pain and Psychiatric Management,” and “Death and Dying: Integrated Teams.” Part 4: Psychosocial Treatments in Integrated Care describes brief office-based counseling and psychosocial treatment approaches including: health coaching, crisis intervention, family, and group interventions. All of these brief treatment approaches are patient–centered, tailored to be used effectively integrated care settings and as an important contribution to population management.

Abstract:
The research collaboration that led to the production of this book was supported by the TY Danjuma Fund for Law and Policy Development at the University of Cape Town. The primary collaboration between the Centre for Comparative Law in Africa (CCLA) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) was established in 2014 as the CCLA–NIALS partnership—a fundamental term of the TY Danjuma endowment at UCT. The editors therefore express their gratitude to General TY Danjuma GCON for the generous and far-sighted support of this collaborative model of Africa-focused research. Indeed, African investment in collaborative and multi-disciplinary research such as this exemplifies the multi-stakeholder input that needs to foreground any meaningful intervention in Africa’s developmental issues, including the pervasive issue of energy access....

Helfter, Susan, and Beatriz Ilari. Models of Collaboration and Community Music. Edited by Brydie-Leigh Bartleet and Lee Higgins. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780190219505.013.19.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter discusses the nature of collaboration as it pertains to community music. The chapter begins with a discussion of some areas of tension in collaborative initiatives within community music. Vignettes that stem from the authors’ observations of community music programs in Canada, Brazil, and the United States are presented to both introduce and discuss different models that might assist in designing and developing effective collaborations within community music programs. The chapter ends with implications of these same models and traits for the assessment of collaborations and collaborative research within the context of community music. The main argument is that any study of collaboration in community music needs to centre on an in-depth understanding of contextual issues, social and cultural capital, and musical aspects that impact organizations, but also on the models and traits that frame the underlying partnerships/collaboration.

Mugyenyi, Peter. Pioneering work on HIV/AIDS in Uganda. Oxford University Press, 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780198703327.003.0004.

Abstract:
Chapter 4 describes how the author and his colleagues set about trying to tackle HIV/AIDS in Uganda through health education and prevention campaigns, collaborative research, and, ultimately, treatment. It covers how, through the work of the Joint Clinical Research Centre and active support from the country’s President, Uganda took the lead in many aspects of research and development, and how it became clear that the biggest challenges were securing access to treatments and confronting attitudes that the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Africa was simply unfeasible. It also describes how ART became available and successful services were established throughout the country, how Uganda served as a model for many other countries in Africa, and explains the continuing need for investment and development to maintain and build on these successes.

Kumar, TM Vinod, and Dilip R. Ahuja, eds. Rural Energy Planning for The Indian Himalaya. International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), 1987. http://dx.doi.org/10.53055/icimod.7.

Full text
Abstract:
This book is perhaps the first effort to focus on energy issues in the Indian Himalayas. Though a lot has been written on the ecological consequences (of energy-related activities), these energy issues by themselves have not received sufficient attention. The papers in this volume have been selected from those commissioned by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, and the Tata Energy Research Institute as a part of their collaborative programme on rural energy planning. As it was found that critical gaps exist in knowledge and experience in the area of effective diffusion of energy technologies for promoting Himalayan development, it was felt that a collection of papers on the existing states-of-the-art would be a useful first step before embarking on practical interventions. There are papers that have focussed on technologies, planning issues and economic welfare aspects relevant to development in all the different regions of the Himalayas. Some authors have focussed instead on the regions and have looked at the status of the three subject areas (technologies, planning and welfare) as they pertain to their regions. The major value of this book is that in addition to a clear articulation of problems, issues and possible solutions, it represents a comprehensive collection of information existing for this region. The authors have also brought out the gaps that exist currently and have established priorities for further research and direction for programmes to promote sustainable development of energy resources and their use in the Himalayan region.
