This paper provides an account of the nature and development of tax law. The author argues that tax law touches human activities to the extent that it is an accurate predictor of human and corporate behaviour. The 'Vegetable Substances' collection was formed by the physician and collector Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753) between the 1680s and the 1750s.
