Abstract:
Cell migration is a fundamental biological process involved in tissue development, wound repair, and diseases such as cancer metastasis. It is a biomechanical process involving the adhesion of a cell to a substratum, usually an elastic extracellular matrix, as well as the physical contraction of the cell driven by intracellular actomyosin network. In the migration of cells as a group, known as collective migration, the cells are also physically linked to one another through cell-cell adhesions. Molecular Biology and Genetics
Ph.D.
Epigenetics was a term first coined to understand how cells with the same genetic make up can differentiate into various cell types. Elegant research over the past 30 years has shown that these mechanisms include heritable marks such as DNA methylation and histone modifications along with stable expression of non- coding RNAs. Within the realm of epigenetics is a phenomenon known as genomic imprinting. Imprints are marks that distinguish the maternal from the paternal chromosomes in the form of methylation. Methylation marks can influence transcript e

Following vascular damage, platelets will accumulate and stably adhere to exposed subendothelial matrixes. The binding of platelet surface receptor Glycoprotein VI (GPVI) to exposed collagen initiates a signaling cascade, which culminates in platelet activation. Stimulation of GPVI pathways results in the generation of thromboxane and causes the platelets to secrete their granule contents. This generated thromboxane as well as constituents released from

Collectively, these diseases are characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis, bone marrow failure, and an increased risk of developing myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and subsequently acute myeloid leukemia (AML). This observation highlights the role of dysregulation of this class of proteins in the development and progression of myeloid neoplasms.
