Abstract:
WRAS at Georgia State assumed status as one of the nation’s leading college radio stations in the 1980s. Yet as this article reveals, participants confronted a crucial moment in the emergence of college radio’s role in the music industry and the emergence of alternative rock as they debated the station’s new format in 1979. While the format fight revealed the dynamics between DJs who preferred a sound that was familiar and palatable to a wide range of audiences versus those who wished to air less conventional, more adventurous rock music, the surrounding politics instead reveal the inseparability of college radio and its role in popular culture from campus politics, particularly the ongoing Black Campus Movement. WRAS’s internal format fight, while heated, neglected the concerns of other students at Georgia State, particularly Black students, who felt shut out of the power dynamics of these stations. Federal regulatory shifts also influenced station affairs through a more public relations–oriented administration, all of which reveal the intersection between institutional and regulatory politics and the soundscapes being created by college radio participants in the early 1980s. The debates regarding genre and sound at Georgia State thus reveal the dynamics that shaped college radio, yet which nonetheless rendered Black students as bystanders in determining the sound of that influence. This article argues that college radio’s “modern” reputation as the home of college rock obscures campus dynamics that were important in shaping college radio culture and practices, which belie stations’ commitment to liberal values of sonic diversity. This history expands beyond the influence of a single, powerful station, moreover, and reveals the potential for expanded research into the emerging network and influence of college radio throughout its history.

Abstract:
This descriptive quantitative research determined the effectiveness of the Block Scheduling Scheme (BSS) vis-à-vis the Paulinian Remote Flexible Learning Experience (ReFLEx) scheme in St. Paul University Surigao as perceived by the college students during the academic year 2022-2023. Validated researcher-made questionnaires were administered to the 322 college students at St. Paul University Surigao who were randomly selected. Then, the Frequency Count and Percentage Distribution, Mean & Standard Deviation, Kruskal-Wallis H-test, and Mann-Whitney U-test were all employed in order to analyze the gathered data. Findings revealed that the most valuable contributors to this study were mostly 20–21 years old and were females. As to the effectiveness, the college students deemed described that the block scheduling scheme of the University vis-à-vis the Paulianian ReFLEx is highly effective with respect to the assessment of learning station, while moderately effective with respect to the independent, collaborative, and interactive teacher-directed learning stations. In relation, the indicators of the effectiveness of the BSS therefore have positively influenced the students' learning experiences at St. Paul University Surigao. Moving further, there were significant differences in the college students' perceptions of the effectiveness of BSS with respect to their college departments vis-à-vis the independent, collaborative, and interactive teacher-directed learning stations under the ReFLEx modality. Also, there was a significant difference in the college students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of the BSS with respect to sex vis-à-vis the assessment of learning station under the ReFLEx modality. In the end, the college students insinuated that BSS is deemed effective in enhancing student engagement, promoting in-depth learning, and facilitating greater independent learning, interactive teacher-directed learning, and collaboration among students. Given these significant results, the Paulinian institution should look into how to close the gaps identified in the study and further improve the implementation of the BSS vis-à-vis ReFLEx with respect to the independent, collaborative, and interactive teacher-directed learning stations to become highly effective. Moreover, the institution should continue regularly evaluating the effectiveness of BSS vis-à-vis the Paulinian ReFLEx to consistently determine the achievement of learning outcomes through the implementation of BSS with ReFLEx.

Abstract:
Abstract. An extensive magnetometer network in Alaska and Canada (consisting of 6 auroral and sub-auroral stations) and at Macquarie Is. (Australia) was used to study magnetoconjugate phenomena in 2003, using the H-component magnetograms. Altogether 193 magnetically disturbed days (with ΣKp≥10) were used in the analysis. The maximum negative swing in the H-component (ΔH) was assigned for each day from the auroral conjugate station's data. Two types of magnetoconjugate data were found: Type-1 when the daily (00:00–24:00 h UT) substorm activity was faithfully reproduced in the H-component variations in the northern and southern auroral zones, and Type-2 when a major peak in disturbance was largely missing in one conjugate location. A distinct maximum in the occurrence of the Type-1 events was in the southern summer (northern winter), reaching almost 70 per cent of cases. A minimum in this type of events was in the southern autumn and winter (around 40%). The correlation between ΣKp and ΔH for auroral stations faithfully reproduced the percentage occurrence of the Type-1 events for various seasons, with the maximum correlation coefficient r≈0.8 in summer. The time conjugacy of the events (i.e. the events occurring with a small time displacement in the southern and northern auroral zones) was highest for the auroral stations located close to the theoretical conjugate point location at L-value ≈ 5 (i.e. College and Macquarie Is.). The substorm onsets started earlier at the stations positioned east of the conjugate point of Macquarie Is. in spring and winter, indicating a westward drift of auroral disturbance with velocities of 1.4–1.6 km/s. The magnitude of average ΔH increased rapidly past the invariant latitude of Macquarie Is. towards the latitude of its nearest northern conjugate station College , particularly in spring. The average level of disturbance was consistently lower by about 30% at Macquarie Is. than at College. Since Macquarie Is. is the only available auroral station in the southern auroral zone the maximum southern auroral activity level (maximum iso-aurorae) should be inferred from magnetic data obtained at a northern conjugate station positioned at a slightly higher L-value, such as College (L-value = 5.73). It is concluded from the above considerations that the maximum iso-aurorae is located at a shell with L-value ≥ 5.73 in both hemispheres.

Abstract:
Abstract The Mackenzie Mountains EarthScope Project—a collaboration between Colorado State University, the University of Alaska, Michigan State University, and Yukon College—deployed a roughly linear, 40-station broadband seismographic network. This network crossed the actively deforming Northern Canadian Cordillera and the Mackenzie Mountains in Yukon, Canada; it also extended into the Canadian Shield in Northwest Territories, Canada. The array was deployed between July 2016 and August 2018 (with four pilot stations installed in July 2015 and three extended stations operating through August 2019) coinciding with and complementing the deployment of the EarthScope Transportable Array to Alaska and western Canada. In this article, we present an overview of project scientific objectives, station configurations, and site conditions; discuss environmental challenges, including those that resulted in station downtime (e.g., spring flooding and encounters with bears); and suggest potential solutions to such subarctic challenges for the benefit of future deployments in comparable regions. We also include an initial characterization of seasonal and geographic variations in ambient seismic noise for the northwestern Canadian Cordillera.

Abstract:
A single examination does not fulfill all the functions of assessment. The present study was undertaken to determine the reliability and student satisfaction regarding the objective structured practical examination (OSPE) as a method of assessment of laboratory exercises in physiology before implementing it in the forthcoming university examination. The present study was undertaken in the Department of Physiology of Melaka Manipal Medical College, Manipal Campus, India. During the OSPE, students were made to rotate through 11 stations, of which 8 stations were composed of questions that tested their knowledge and critical thinking and 2 stations were composed of skills that students had to perform before the examiner. One station was kept as the rest station. Performance of the students was assessed by comparing the students' scores in the traditional practical examination (TPE) and OSPE using “Bland-Altman technique.” Student perspectives regarding the OSPE were obtained by asking them to respond to a questionnaire. The Bland-Altman plot showed that ∼63% of the students showed a performance in the scores obtained using the OSPE and TPE within the acceptable limit of 8; 32% of the students scored much above the anticipated difference in the scores, and the rest scored below the anticipated difference in the scores on the OSPE and TPE. Feedback indicated that students were in favor of the OSPE compared with the TPE. Feedback from the students provided scope for improvement before the OSPE was administered for the first time in the forthcoming university examination.

Abstract Seventeen F, sorghum hybrids of released and experimental parental lines arranged in a RCB design with 3 replications were evaluated for resistance to sorghum midge (SM) in duplicated field trials at the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station at College Station, TX and at the Texas A&M University Research and Extension Center at Corpus Christi, TX. Seed was sown 14 May in rows spaced 30 inches (76.2 cm) apart and 5 Apr in rows spaced 38 inches (96.5 cm) apart at College Station and Corpus Christi, respectively. Yield and damage ratings were used to evaluate hybrids of resistant by resistant parents, and resistant by susceptible parents, compared with hybrids of susceptible by susceptible parents. At College Station, 100-kernel weight also was determined. Rating of damage caused by SM was done at sorghum kernel physiological maturity where 1 = 1-10, 2 = 11-20, to 9 = 81-100% kernel loss. Panicles from plots were hand harvested (0.0025 ha) and threshed by using a stationary plot thresher. Grain yield was calculated by converting grain weight to kg/ha. ANOVA and LSD at the 0.05 probability level were used to analyze data.

Abstract:
An FM Broadcast Trainer was developed to expose the students to the basic equipment needed in radio broadcasting. The cost of Portable FM Broadcast Trainer is much lower than the cost of the traditional commercial equipment because of the materials used. The FM Broadcast Trainer is laboratory equipment that can be used by schools offering academic programs in Industrial Courses specifically Electronics Communication courses. At present, there is no portable FM broadcast station available in the local market. Some schools are reluctant to buy new FM station equipment since these are quite costly. To resolve this problem, the researchers deemed it necessary to design and develop a portable FM Broadcast Trainer that is simple and affordable to fulfill the basic curricular requirements for offering courses in Electronics Communication Technicians. This is a requirement for our graduates to qualify to take the Radio Telephone Operator examination given by the National Telecommunication Commission the telecommunication body in the Philippines counterpart of Federal Communication Commission in the US. Aside from this, the station will be a venue for Mass Communications students and a vehicle for channeling important announcements from the School.

Abstract:
Purpose College radio stations provide tools, skills and experience to students and graduates, facilitating their integration into the media industry. The purpose of this paper is to examine whether the college radio station gives students, beyond practical tools, a sense of self-fulfillment and self-confidence. Design/methodology/approach Research was carried out through semi-structured in-depth interviews with about 70 interviewees: senior directors of the college radio project, students and graduates. Findings It was found that students gained self-fulfillment and developed considerable self-confidence through intrinsic motivation, in accordance with Deci’s self-determination model. In addition, it was found that activities in college radio stations match the components of the Project Based Learning model, based on learning in small groups and producing a real product, which is then presented to an audience. Social implications This will impact students to develop their high intrinsic motivation to study. As a result, they will become more creative and satisfied employees, producing higher quality and added value work. Ultimately, the outcome will be one of more positive social welfare and individual well-being. Originality/value This research emphasizes the importance of integrating practical workshops in academic studies as a way to empower students in all fields: theoretical study, practical experience and personal development.

Abstract:
Herbicide-resistant weeds threaten cotton production, and herbicides alone are not a sustainable remedy. Field trials at two locations, College Station and Thrall, Texas (2019-21), assessed dicamba-based herbicide programs in various crop sequences and tillage systems to identify sustainable weed management recommendations based on weed control and partial net returns. The study showed no-till cover cropping and conventional tillage had the highest aggregate partial net returns at College Station and Thrall, respectively. A cotton:sorghum:cotton rotation provided significantly higher partial net returns (>$450 ha-1) compared to continuous cotton only at Thrall. Partial net returns were significantly higher in a low input herbicide program (LI) compared to a high input herbicide program (HI) from 2019-21 only at Thrall. Herbicide programs showed a high degree of overlap and were indistinct in all tillage types at College Station based on CDFs graphs. Low input under cotton:sorghum:cotton rotation showed 100% probability of higher partial net returns compared to continuous cotton in all tillage types at Thrall. Stoplight charts showed LI provided greater than 50% probability of partial net returns greater than $1,066 ha-1 across tillage types at College Station. In Thrall, LI under cotton:sorghum:cotton rotation offered 88% and 26% probability of partial net returns above $1,066 ha-1 in conventional and strip tillage, respectively. Higher partial net returns for LI were mostly attributed to cost savings from using inexpensive herbicides rather than higher yields. Therefore, using less expensive herbicide programs and crop rotation appeared to be the most risk efficient strategy for managing weeds in irrigated and dryland cotton production.

Abstract:
According to the 2020 Hope Survey, 38% of two-year college students and 29% of four-year college students experienced food insecurity. The distinct lifestyle of student-athletes may place them at an even greater risk for experiencing food insecurity and its consequences as compared to non-student-athletes. Therefore, this study assessed the prevalence of food insecurity among 98 student-athletes at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and explored its impact on their athletic and academic performance, and emotional well-being. The current study utilized a mixed-methods, cross sectional design. An online survey was used to assess food security status, fruit and vegetable intake, reliance on athletic department fueling stations, and other sociodemographic variables. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore the impact of food insecurity on athletic performance, academic performance, and emotional well-being. Of the 98 student-athletes, 34.7% were food insecure. Reliance on the fueling station as a primary source of food for the day and reduced fruit and vegetable intake were identified as significant predictors of food insecurity. Eight semi-structured interviews were conducted and revealed that food intake impacts energy levels during athletic events and overall quality of athletic performance, as well as energy levels in class and ability to focus during class. Additionally, unequal access to resources within the fueling station were seen as a barrier to their success. Future research should investigate the prevalence of food insecurity among student-athletes and assess the use of the athletic department fueling station as an intervention to mitigate food insecurity among this population.

Abstract:
This study reported the investigation of the Radio Frequency (RF) signal propagation of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) coverage in Emmanuel Alayande College of Education (EACOED), Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study aims at amplifying the quality of service and augment end users' sensitivity of the wireless services operation. The drive test method is adopted with estimation of coverage level and received signal strength. The Network Cell Info Lite application installed in three INFINIX GSM mobile phones was employed to take the measurement of the signal strength received from the transmitting stations of different mobile networks. The results of the study revealed that MTN has the maximum signal strength with a mean value of - 68.33 dBm, directly followed by Globacom (-80.41 dBm) and Airtel with -83.13 dBm. The Airtel signal has a conspicuously invariable poor performance with coverage level of 41.66 %. Conversely, the MTN and Globacom signal reception are observed to surpass the Airtel network within the college premises with 83.33 % and 60.41 % coverage level respectively. This implies that the signal quality for MTN and Globacom networks were comparatively disseminated within the college with inconsequential fluctuations in quality while Airtel signal is subsided and weaken. The poor performance in some areas was due to the presence of physical impediments and far distances location of base station antennas in the promulgation locations. This study therefore suggested that Airtel and Globacom Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) should be positioned within the college to improve good network reportage level.

Abstract:
The increasing population along with water scarcity give rise to water management practices. Water scarcity can be eradicated by wastewater treatment that would in turn prevent contamination of water bodies. One of the challenges in wastewater treatment is to efficiently transport and treat the sewage in a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). Most of the existing STPs in closed campuses of Indian scenarios such as academic institutions, industries, and residential apartments employ several pumping stations in a campus and pump motors in each station that pump sewage to STP for treatment. Manual operation of such motors would lead to sump overflows that negatively impact public health and sanitation. Therefore, an IoT-based system for monitoring and controlling sewage flow is proposed in this paper that uses water level sensors and prevents sewage overflows in pumping station sumps, resulting in the utilisation of all the collected sewage for treatment. Since each campus might have different communication networks such as GPRS, WiFi, RF, or Ethernet, the proposed system is designed to work with any network. The proposed system was tested in the college campus with three pumping stations. Moreover, a test bed was simulated and tested with 100 pumping stations. It is observed that the proposed approach prevents sewage overflows in various scenarios with different constraints.

Abstract: In the current scenario the growth of a nation is totally depends upon the road infrastructure and connectivity of that nation. So, at the same time it’s equally important to construct sustainable and environment friendly roads in the country. This study compares the applications of novel surveying technologies for road surface mapping by total Stations and design of flexible pavement by using IIT pave. This project is on GIFT college Gate to Khordha - Chandaka Road. This is the road that connect our college and it is around 300 m stretch. In particular, a Leica TCRP 1203 instruments was used for surveying. This study deals with issues of road surveying under light traffic condition, the safety of surveyors, work methodology, optimization of surveying time, traffic volume study during 8.00-9.00am and 3.30-4.30pm. The aspects of data processing, assessment, traffic analysis, flexible pavement design as per IRC:37-2018 are also handled. Possible reasons for detected discrepancies between different approaches are discussed in detail. The methods in question both allow the accurate determination of paving material volumes that should be milled off the upper layer of the road surface and the volume of the filling material required to achieve a smooth road surface. However, this study evaluates the use of conventional surveying methods such as total station surveying in road surface mapping and design of flexible pavement (code IRC: 37) as well as the material evaluation. Now-a-days, handling the waste from different industry is a challenge. So, this study also evaluates the sustainability of waste material to construct the flexible pavement inside the college campus. Abstract:
Ground-based measurements were taken at various locations, including Kathmandu Bode, Beijing, Gandhi College (located in South Asian zone, highly polluted area), Canberra, and UNC Gaitan (located in South Eastern zone, low polluted area), from January to December 2016. The study investigated the seasonal and inter-annual AOD that were obtained using CIMEL Sunphotometer, as a part of the Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET). The data showed that Kathmandu (0.45±0.01), Gandhi College (0.45±0.02 and Beijing (0.85±0.03) had higher AOD values compared to other stations, with Kathmandu being a high-altitude site. The analysis found that pre-monsoon AOD were higher over Kathmandu (0.45±0.01), Gandhi College (0.45±0.02), UNC Gaitan (0.28±0.001), and Canberra (0.06±0.002). On the other hand, the monsoon AOD was higher over Beijing (0.85±0.03). The study identified various factors contributing to the higher AOD values in specific regions. Beijing, Gandhi College, and Kathmandu, located in Asian monsoon regions, experienced high aerosol loading due to economic activities, vehicles, urbanization, vegetation fire, land clearing for crop cultivation, as well as winter biomass burning, heating needs, and pollution from bricks kilns, factories, and vehicles. Canberra and UNC Gaitan had higher AOD values primarily due to biomass burning and dust. AOD values are higher for shorter wavelength and vice-versa. We conducted a correlation analysis between AOD and perceptible water at different wavelengths and observed one to one correspondence. The columnar water vapor (CWV) exhibited a high correlation with AOD in Canberra (Coefficient of determination, R2 = 0.61) at 1640 nm but had no relationship with AOD in Gandhi College (Coefficient of determination, R2 = 0) at 1640nm. There is weak negative correlation between AOD and preceptable water over Kathmandu and UNC Gaitan, but have positive correlation in Canberra, Beijing and Gandhi College

Abstract:
Methane is the second most important anthropogenically emitted greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide. Anthropogenic methane sources in the US are dominated by emissions from domestic ruminants and from fossil fuel exploration, storage and transmission. The fossil fuel source is primarily due to natural gas leaks along the production to distribution chain, and pipeline leaks in urban areas have been identified as a significant contributor. In this study, we evaluated possible leaks in three neighborhoods of a midsize Texas metropolitan region surrounding Texas A&M University through mobile measurements using a fast response, high precision methane analyzer. Neighborhoods were selected by age and land use, and each predetermined driving route was evaluated three times. Methane spikes exceeding 2.5 ppm were identified as leaks, and approximately one leak per mile of urban road was discovered. The largest leaks were found around the Texas A&M natural gas plant and in the oldest neighborhood to its north, while fewer leaks were found in a slightly younger neighborhood. No leaks were found in the youngest, less than 20-year old neighborhood suggesting that pipeline system age is a strong determinant of current and future leaks from the natural gas distribution system.

Abstract A sketch of Eustace Hall is on the cover of this issue of HortScience. Eustace Hall was designed by Liberty Hyde Bailey and was the first building in the United States devoted exclusively to the study and teaching of horticulture. It was completed in 1888—the year of the founding of the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station. It was named Eustace Hall in memory of Harry J. Eustace, Department Head from 1908–1919. In addition to offices and classrooms, the twostory brick structure contained a photographic darkroom and rooms for grafting and storage of nursery stock. Now the home of the University College, it is the second oldest building on campus.

Abstract:
The level of pollutant of heavy metals (Hg, Co, Pb V, Cr, Ni, Sr, Zr, Mo, Cu, Rb, Zn, As,Th, U) , in the sediment samples on the banks of the Shatt al-Hillah River The study was conducted in the Department of Earth Science at the College of Science, University of Babylon, 14 samples of sediments ware collected from the banks of the river of Shatt Al-Hillah. The average concentration of the heavy metal in the sediment of the river bank in descending order: Sr (360.6 ppm) ,Cr (285.9 ppm), Ni (203.2 ppm), Co (169.9 ppm), Zr (166.3 ppm),. V (116.4ppm) , Zn (91.6 ppm), Cu (48.8 ppm), Rb (41.9 ppm), Pb (18.1 ppm),As(11.1 ppm), Hg(5.7ppm),Th (4.2 ppm),Mo(3.7 ppm), U(2ppm,. The geoaccumulation index (Igeo) for Hg of five sampling station along the river was greater than 3.0, which indicate contamination of sedimentation with a high degree of pollution. The Igeo for Ni in11 sampling station and CO in 12 sites were greater than 1.0, indicated the moderatly level of polluted sediment. The value of the pollution load index (PLI) for the total sampling stations ranged from 0.7 -1.4.
