Abstract:
Chuck holders are widely used for jobs with high precision. A chuck holder consists of a nut with a tapered surface and a thin-slotted clamping sleeve typically made of hardened steel and named a collet. Chuck holders are, essentially, wedge mechanisms. In this paper, we investigated the reactions and strains due to the forces during the chip removal process in the contact elements or jaws of the collet by means of mathematical analysis. Deflections in the jaws of the collet arise with a high influence from the precision of the workpieces. The cutting or process forces cause an axial force, a radial force, a torsional moment, and a bending moment on the chuck collet, and, consequently, displacements and inclinations of the clamping system are caused. Therefore, the proposed analytical models are based on elasticity and contact theories. The mathematical model for determining the deflections of the clamping system force was developed and implemented using MATLAB. The results showed that the variation in the clamping force during rotation in a collet chuck holder mainly depends on the stiffness of the collet chuck holder and the stiffness of the workpiece. The results indicated that the collet should be vulcanized to minimize the deformations that affect the final product. The deflections of a collet chuck holder due to process forces depend strongly on the clearances, wedge angle, and stiffness of the collet.

Abstract:
In precision machining, expanding mandrels are used for jobs with close tolerances. An expanding mandrel consists of a tapered arbor or shaft, with a thin-slotted clamping sleeve or collet made of hardened steel. The internal tapered and external cylindrical surfaces are ground to a high degree of accuracy, and the mandrel expands to fit the internal bore of the workpiece. Expanding mandrels are, essentially, wedge mechanisms. This paper proposes an automatic expanding mandrel with a novel force transmission system for high stiffness within a novel air sensing system, which allows detection of the correct part position before starting machining. A computational model for determining the dynamic clamping force of the proposed mechanism is developed and implemented using MATLAB. This model considers the influence of the stiffness behaviors of the collet, force transmission structure and workpiece. Additionally, this paper presents the finite element method analyses which were conducted to check the proposed computational model. The amount of clamping force transmitted by a collet chuck holder depends strongly on: clearances, wedge angle, stiffness of the collet chuck holder and workpiece stiffness.

Abstract:
AbstractWeb-based cryptocurrency mining attacks, also known as cryptojacking, become increasingly popular. A large number of diverse platforms (e.g., Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS) and devices (e.g., PC, smartphones, tablets, and even critical infrastructures) are widely impacted. Although a variety of detection approaches were recently proposed, it is challenging to apply these approaches to attack prevention directly.Instead, in this paper, we present a novel generic and accurate defense solution, called “MinerGate”, against cryptojacking attacks. To achieve the goal, MinerGate is designed as an extension of network gateways or proxies to protect all devices behind it. When attacks are identified, MinerGate can enforce security rules on victim devices, such as stopping the execution of related JavaScript code and alerting victims. Compared to prior approaches, MinerGate does not require any modification of browsers or apps to collect the runtime features. Instead, MinerGate focuses on the semantics of mining payloads (usually written in WebAssembly/asm.js), and semantic-based features. In our evaluation, we first verify the correctness of MinerGate by testing MinerGate in a real environment. Then, we check MinerGate’s performance and confirm MinerGate introduces relatively low overhead. Last, we verify the accuracy of MinerGate. For this purpose, we collect the largest WebAssembly/asm.js related code with ground truth to build our experiment dataset. By comparing prior approaches and MinerGate on the dataset, we find MinerGate achieves better accuracy and coverage (i.e., 99% accuracy and 98% recall). Our dataset will be available online, which should be helpful for more solid understanding of cryptojacking attacks.

This chapter presents data from three databases. These are the CPR database, which contains case studies on fisheries and irrigation systems worldwide; the NIIS database, which collects case studies on Nepalese irrigation systems; and the IFRI database, which contains forest management case studies worldwide. Afterward, the individual steps of data preparation—check for correctness, selection, recoding, weighting, and splitting—are presented. Especially important is assigning individual variables to the twenty-four success factors by three individual raters. At the end of this process, machine-readable, analyzable data set variants are available. By describing this process in detail, transparency and reproducibility are provided.

Abstract:
This chapter delves into the musical community associated with old-time music and its beginnings within the American folk music revival of the 1950s. From the start, this was an intentional community largely urban based and focused on recreating music many of its adherents viewed as embodying a simpler time, and representing vaguely defined notions of tradition. Various influential musicians are profiled, all of who contributed to the popularity of this music especially among college aged, predominantly white individuals. These include the New Lost City Ramblers, Hollow Rock String Band, Fuzzy Mountain String Band and Highwoods String Band. The interest in this music during the revival era also inspired the first small-scale banjo builders who became important participants in this process by making instruments available at a time when the major instrument manufacturers were ignoring this phenomenon. Several of these makers are profiled and their contributions discussed: Chuck Ogsbury (Ode banjos); Art Gariepy; Kate Spencer (A.E. Smith banjos); Bart Reiter.

Abstract:
This chapter reviews the major theories of drug use progression and their implications for prevention in adolescents, including the gateway model, the general liability model, and the developmental cascade model. Prevention interventions designed for universal (e.g., school-based, environmental), selective (e.g., family-focused), and indicated approaches (e.g., targeting heavy college drinkers) are reviewed, including programs that include all three levels (e.g., Family Check-Up, Triple-P). All of these approaches have been found to have both short-term and long-term efficacy. Challenges remain in disseminating these interventions on a wide scale, and many communities employ weaker programs when stronger ones are available. Potential pathways to achieve greater adoption of effective programs are outlined.

Abstract:
After successfully implementing the concept with individual universities, Host approached NCAA president Ced Dempsey about a “bundled rights” package for all NCAA media rights and marketing. Host met with CBS executive Sean McManus and offered more than $5 billion for an eleven-year NCAA tournament deal. Host would publish the print programs for the tournament, operate the radio network, and sell corporate sponsorships. A long saga ensued. The NCAA originally balked at the proposal, and then CBS decided to shut Host out of the deal in favor of International Sport and Leisure (ISL). Even so, Host agreed to give up the remaining contractual rights for the NCAA basketball tournament. When CBS’s deal with ISL fell through, Host brokered a new contract with the network. Host’s team then worked closely with Coca-Cola executives (including Don Keough, Chuck Fruit, Scott McCune, and Steve Heyer) to create a record-setting sponsorship. When completed, the $500 million deal made Coca-Cola the NCAA’s first “corporate champion” and set a new standard for college sports marketing.

Abstract:
This study examined the relationship between digital distractions, mindfulness, and academic performance with undergraduate college students. A total of 199 students completed surveys that examined digital distractions and the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (Baer et al., 2006). The results indicated that 96.5% of participants had a digital device near them when studying, and 94.0% used a digital device to help them study. The major purpose for using a digital device in the classroom was to check the time on their phone (91.0%) and text someone (88.9%). Some reasons for using a digital device for non-classroom purposes included to fight boredom (39.2%) and to stay connected with others (25.1%). Participants who had fewer digital distractions tended to be more mindful and a significant positive relationship (r = .192, p <; .05) was obtained between overall mindfulness and academic performance.

Abstract:
This chapter considers the practice of modeling ecological niches and estimating geographic distributions. It first introduces the general principles and definitions underlying ecological niche modeling and species distribution modeling, focusing on model calibration and evaluation, before discussing the principal steps to be followed in building niche models. The first task in building a niche model is to collate, process, error-check, and format the data that are necessary as input. Two types of data are required: primary occurrence data documenting known presences (and sometimes absences) of the species, and environmental predictors in the form of raster-format GIS layers summarizing scenopoetic variables that may (or may not) be involved in delineating the ecological requirements of the species. The next step is to use a modeling algorithm to characterize the species’ ecological niche as a function of the environmental variables, followed by model projection and evaluation and finally, model transferability.

Abstract:
Combined Extrusion-Forging process is a renowned metal forming method which serves as a pathway for manufacturing components of complex design. In that context processing a component with better mechanical and metallurgical properties can be enhanced by severe plastic deformation which processes the fine-grained materials formation in the product. These fine-grained materials achieved by SPD makes the component with superior quality. The novelty of the concept is to validate the presence of fine-grained materials at lower ram displacement. This paper presents the estimated forming load, metal flow pattern and alike, using aluminum 1072 as billet material for manufacturing SCCCH, along with micro-structural validation by experimental die-punch setup and simulation using modelling software DEFORM3D. Numerical analysis was also performed to estimate the forming load and metal flow patterns. Good number of experiments has been carried out at various punch movements to find out forming load and metal flow pattern. Microscopic analyses have been performed to validate the data with the results obtained from the experimentation. It was found that the numerical data was well validated with the experimental results. Further, Micro-hardness analysis was also performed. As the component was manufactured on application of heavy loads, the residual stress was also found to check the load carrying capacity of the component.

Abstract:
This paper presents investigational findings and a discussion of recommendations relating to sound and vibration measurements performed in connection with a fluid induced vibration issue on two air blowers and attached exhaust piping at an industrial facility. These vibration and sound measurements were prompted by recent check valve failures for the air blower units, and unacceptable sound levels emanating from these units and affecting nearby residents. This data was acquired during steady state operating conditions of the blowers under normal operating conditions. An FFT data acquisition system, a piezoelectric microphone and three piezoelectric triaxial accelerometers were used to collect vibration measurements at each of the 70 locations on the blowers, motors, blower bases, and exhaust piping, while sound measurements were simultaneously acquired with the microphone. Piping and blower vibration readings were used to construct an operating deflection shape analysis of the blowers, foundations and attached piping system. The resulting vibration and sound analysis revealed that acoustic excitation of the piping system appeared to be the likely source of the high vibration, high sound pressure levels; piping cracks and check valve failures. Corrective actions were implemented that reduced the sound pressure levels, vibration levels, and reduced/eliminate the piping damage and valve failures.

The TruPro® process enables to collect a significant number of samples to characterize radiological materials. This innovative and alternative technique is experimented for the ANDRA quality-control inspection of cemented packages. It proves to be quicker and more prolific than the current methodology. Using classical statistics and geostatistics approaches, the physical and radiological characteristics of two hulls containing immobilized wastes (sludges or concentrates) in a hydraulic binder are assessed in this paper. The waste homogeneity is also evaluated in comparison to ANDRA criterion. Sensibility to sample size (support effect), presence of extreme values, acceptable deviation rate and minimum number of data are discussed. The final objectives are to check the homogeneity of the two characterized radwaste packages and also to validate and reinforce this alternative characterization methodology.
