Full textThe litigations between Germany and the French Foreign Legion started before the 1st World War. Despite this, the end of the war changed the situation. For one part, the two nations were no longer equal to each other, as Germany had lost the war, and was suffering from important internal problems. On the other hand ‘the old Legion had died in the trenches in the North of France’. Because of this, the Legion, as an institution, needed to rebuild itself. Unfortunately to do this, and to renew itself, it needed war- hardened troupes, which could only be recruited from their old enemy, Austria and Germany. This paradox, not only was the start of a rivality between the nations, to assure the recruitment, or its refusal, but also led to a spy system being formed between the two countries. In its term this led to a communication’s system being formed around social evolutions and the life surrounding the Legion. For the French Foreign Legion, the period between the two World Wars, is a passage from one war to another, and has no peaceful moments. It is a period where it questioned itself, adapted to subversive political elements, and which it became part of the rivality between growing colonial and political differences

Full textCognitive radio (CR) has been proposed as a technolgy to improve the spectrum efficiency by giving an opportunistic access of the licensed-user spectra to unlicensed users. In this thesis, our purpose is to propose a specific scenario of CR and to present solutions to some related problems .or this purpose, we consider an overlay CR consisting of a primary macro-cell and cognitive small cells of cooperative secondary base stations (SBS). We suggst studying a hydbrid CR where a filter bank multicarrier (FBMC) is used for the secondary users (SU) whereas the primary users (PU) are based on orthogonal frequency diiision multiplexing (OFDM). This choice is motivated by the following reasons : as OFDM is used in many current wideband primary systems, an important bandwidth can be reused when OFDM is considered for the PU. Concerning the secondary system, although OFDM has been recognized as a condidate for CR systems, FBMC modulation can be another candidate that overcomes some OFDM drawbacks. Indeed, compared to OFDM, FBMC has the advantage of reducing the SU interference level tha is induced by the differences between the SBS and PU carrier frequency offsets (CFO). In order to cancel the interferences, a precoding can ben inserted at the SBS. Therefore, we propose to derive the interference expression due to SU at het PU receiver. Then, ero forcing beamforming (ZFBF) is considered to cancel the interferences. To confirm the efficiency of the proposed cheme, we make a comparative study with CR based on OFDM for both the PU and theSU. However, applying ZFBF depends on the channels between the SBS and the PU. A channel estimation is hence necessary. For this purpose, we propose to approximate the channel by an autoregressive process (AR) and to consider the channel estimation issue by using a training sequence. The received signals, also called the observations, are disturbed by an additive measurement noise. They can be : 1) additive and white. In that case, the AR paramters and the channel can be jointly estimated from the received noisy signal by using e recursive approache. Neverless, the corresponding state space representaion of the system is non-linear. In addition to existing methods that have been considered, we propose to carry out a complementary study by investigating the relevance of the quadrature Kalman filter (QKF) and the cubature Kalman filter (CKF). The, we compare them with other non-linear Kalman based approaches. 2) additive and colored. In that case, a parametric approach can be considered and based on a priori model of the noise. In our case, a moving average (MA) model is studie. Our approach operates as follows : firstly, the AR parameters are estimated by using the overdetermined high-order Yule-Walker (HOYN) equations. The variance of the AR-process driving process can be deduced by means of an orthogonal projection betweenn two types of etimates of AR-process correlation vectors. Then, the correlation sequence of th MA noise is estimated. Secondly, the MA parameters are obtained by using a new variant of the inner-outer factorization approache. We study the avantages and the limits of the proposed method. The, we compare it with existing algorithms such as the improved least square-colored noise (ILS-CN), the Yule-Walker ILS (YWILS) and the prediction error method (PEM). The proposed method is first evaluated with synthetic AR and MA processes and then is applied in the field of mobile communcation for channel estimation

Full textBit rates of high speed serial links (USB, SATA, PCI-express, etc.) have reached the multi-gigabits per second, and continue to increase. Two of the major electrical parameters used to characterize SerDes Integrated Circuit performance are the transmitted jitter at a given bit error rate (BER) and the receiver capacity to track jitter at a given BER.Modeling the phase noise of the different SerDes components, extracting the time jitter and decomposing it, would help designers to achieve desired Figure of Merit (FoM) for future SerDes versions. Generating white and colored noise synthetic jitter patterns would allow to better analyze the effect of jitter in a system for design verification. The phase locked loop (PLL) is one of the contributors of clock random and periodic jitter inside the system. This thesis presents a method for modeling the PLL with phase noise injection and estimating the time domain jitter. A time domain model including PLL loop nonlinearities is created in order to estimate jitter. A novel method for generating Gaussian distribution synthetic jitter patterns from colored noise profiles is also proposed. The Standard Organizations specify random and deterministic jitter budgets. In order to decompose the PLL output jitter (or the generated jitter from the proposed method), a new technique for jitter analysis and decomposition is proposed. Modeling simulation results correlate well with measurements and this technique will help designers to properly identify and quantify the sources of deterministic jitter and their impact on the SerDes system. We have developed a method, for specifying PLLs in terms of Phase Noise. This method works for any standard (USB, SATA, PCIe, …), and defines Phase noise profiles of the different parts of the PLL, in order to be sure that the standard requirements are satisfied in terms of Jitter

Full textThis manuscript presents research aiming to show possible positive effects of deterministic and stochastic perturbations on the responses of different nonlinear systems. To that end, both numerical and experimental studies were carried out on two kinds of structures : an elementary electronic FitzHugh-Nagumo oscillator and an electrical line developed by resistively coupling 45 elementary cells. In the first section, the elementary cell characterization was undertaken in a deterministic regime. In the presence of a bichromatic stimulus, it is shown that when the low frequency component is subthreshold, its detection can be maximized for an optimal magnitude of the second component thanks to vibrational resonance. Next, it is established that this resonance may be enhanced for specific frequencies of the second component ; this phenomenon is referred to as frequency resonance. Furthermore, white and colored noise sources effects on vibrational resonance are reported. Then, for any other bichromatic excitation configuration, attention was focused on ghost stochastic resonance. Contrary to the other phenomena introduced in this manuscript, this one differs in the fact that the frequency of interest in the system output is here not applied on the input. Finally, the last part of the manuscript is devoted to the study of the coupled structure. It is shown that information propagation through line cells can be enhanced by vibrational propagation and noise assisted propagation phenomena. These nonlinear effects respectively occur when the system is under a high frequency deterministic perturbation or a random noise source

Blind source separation (BSS) is a popular topic in many practical applications such as beamforming (array processing), image/speech processing and biomedical signal analysis with multiple sensors at receivers. The multidimensional observation vector is assumed to be given by x[n]=As[n]+w[n](1.1) where A is a PxK mixing matrix,s[n] is a Kx1 source signal vector and w[n] is a Px1 additive noise vector. The key objective of BSS is to separate and estimate the source signals s[n] from the received measurement vector x[n] without any knowledge of the mixing matrix. Some existing second-order statistics (SOS) methods, such as Tong et al.’s algo-rithm for multiple unknown signals extraction (AMUSE) method [1] and Belouchrani et al.’s second-order blind identification (SOBI) [2], are two-step approaches includ-ing a whitening procedure followed by the determination of an unknown unitary ma-trix. In the whitening procedure, the noise variance has to be accurately estimated to structure the whitening matrix. However, when the noise variance is either unknown or cannot be estimated, these methods may no longer be effective. After the whiten-ing procedure, an unknown unitary matrix needs to be identified in order to estimate the mixing matrix A. The AMUSE algorithm performs diagonalization of the whit-ened covariance matrix at only one time lag not equal to zero to estimate the unitary matrix. However, it is not possible to determine a time lag such that the eigenvalues of the whitened covariance matrix, i.e., the autocorrelation functions of source signals, are distinct. When the spectra of the source signals are very similar, joint diagonali-zation of more than one whitened covariance matrices with different time lags will improve robustness. Based on this concept, the SOBI algorithm simultaneously di-agonalizes [3] a set of the whitened covariance matrices. Thus it can be seen that these SOS methods require more strict condition on the spectra of the source signals which corresponds to the second-order identifiability condition found in [4]. A Higher-order statistics (HOS) method such as Ding et al.’s kurtosis maximization algorithm (KMA) [5], designs a weight vector through the gradient type optimization algorithm with slow convergence rate and high computational load to extract a tem-porally independent or colored source signal. In view of these shortcomings, Chi and Chen proposed a fast KMA (FKMA) [6] with a fast convergence rate and low com-putational load. Unlike SOS methods, these HOS methods only permit the source signals to be non-Gaussian but do not have any condition on the spectra of the source signals. Although the FKMA (including the KMA) is theoretically applicable to both the cases of temporally independent and colored source signals, we empirically found that the performance of the FKMA significantly degrades as the source signals are temporally colored especially when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is low. An insight of this observation is that the FKMA may converge to an undesired solution under low SNR due to the relatively small absolute kurtosis of the temporally colored source signal. In this thesis, a novel space-time BSS algorithm, the blind source ex-traction-inverse (BSE-INV) algorithm, is proposed, which involves a blind beam-forming processing using the FKMA followed by a blind deconvolution processing using the SISO-IFC [14], to improve the convergence property and also the perform-ance of the FKMA for the case of temporally colored source signals. This thesis is organized as follows. In Chapter 2, FKMA is reviewed and the ef-fects of the temporally colored source signals on FKMA are described. In chapter 3, the proposed blind source extraction-inverse (BSE-INV) algorithm is presented for BSS. In Chapter 4, some simulation results are provided to justify the efficacy and feasibility of the proposed BSE-INV algorithm. Finally, some conclusions and future researches regarding this thesis are given in Chapter 5.
