Secmeler, Ozge. "Comparison Of Microwave Drying And Microwave Mixed-bed Drying Of Red Peppers." Master's thesis, METU, 2003. http://etd.lib.metu.edu.tr/upload/1098979/index.pdf.

Abstract:
The main objective of this work is to investigate whether the time required to dry red peppers in the diffusion controlled period can be reduced. For this purpose, the possibility of microwave drying in this period was studied. As comparison parameters the drying rates and color of the products were selected. The conventional drying was conducted under constant external drying conditions with air at 60 0C and 3.5 % RH and 1.0 m/s velocity in a batch dryer. For the microwave drying a domestic microwave oven with three power levels, 286, 397 and 560 W was used. Pre-experiments were done to obtain an insight on the possibility of moisture distribution within the structure of the red peppers and electrical field distribution inside the oven cavity. The non-uniformity due to the latter effect was tried to be overcome by designing and installing a six blade impeller into the bed having the symmetrical pair of blades fixed at three levels. Samples for the microwave drying experiments were prepared by drying the peppers from approximately 90% of moisture to 20% in 7 hours in the conventional dryer at 600C and then cutting them into pieces about 1x1 cm. Thus prepared samples were dried further in the microwave oven to 14% moisture content without and with the agitator. To compare the results, the effective diffusivity coefficients were calculated for all of the methods and parameters to enable the aimed comparison. These indicated that by using microwave drying, the drying time can be reduced by about 120 times. Further, by mixing the uniformity of drying and the drying rate could be improved. Considering color of the product, there was no significant difference with respect to the fresh samples after all operations.

Vallée, Nathalie. "Caractérisation des jets à hautes pressions : étude expérimentale d'injections continues sub-, trans- et super-critiques." Thesis, Normandie, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018NORMIR08/document.

Abstract:
Studying a fluid flow under high-pressure conditions through reliable experiments is still nowadays a challenge. When the chamber pressure exceeds the critical pressure of working fluids the supercritical state of matter is reached and the distinction between gas and liquid becomes blurred. For such special conditions, experimental data are scarce and need to be consolidated. In the present study, a new test bench has been designed at CORIA Lab to study the non-reactive injection of ethane and propane into nitrogen or helium under sub- and supercritical conditions. Experimental data are collected from four image-based techniques : shadowgraphy, diffused backlight illumination (DBI), radiography and color background oriented schlieren (CBOS). Qualitative information on topology of the jets and their mixing layer are provided. Quantitative measurements of dense core length, jet spreading angle and density field are supported by a phenomenological study based on binary mixing theory

Before Since half a century ago, phosphor technology has been playing an important role in the applications of the general lighting and the display engineering both. However, the combination recipes of the color phosphors to goal at the target chromaticity ate still built up by the experiments of trials and errors. It is of great time-consuming and very inefficient. Therefore, how to quickly obtain the accurate weight ratios of phosphors in the combination recipes becomes a critical issue of phosphor technology for many practical applications. In this work, firstly the principle of the color mixing has been applied to the optical mixing ratios of phosphors in approaching to the target chromatic performance. Then, the relation between the optical mixing ratios and the weighting ratios is concluded to an experimental model from a great amount of the realistic datum. Finally, any requested chromatic performance of the phosphor recipe can be precisely predicted by these two steps above. As a result, the chromatic deviation from the quick model to the goal can be well controlled down to less than 0.003 (Δxy). It will also been tested in the practical CCFL production lines about the accurate phosphor mixing recipes.

Diffractive optical elements(DOE) have been developed since the middle 1980’s. It’s based on diffraction theory. The characters of DOE are mini size and surface relief. Surface relief can control the incident wave front to perform desired distribution. In this research project, we design a phase-only DOE that can let light with different wavelength uniformly distribute on the observational plane. We call this ” Uniform color mixing DOE”. Comparing with the past technique, ”Uniform color mixing DOE” has better energy efficiency. We design this ”color mixing DOE” based on multiple wavelength GS algorithm and also improve the algorithm. We hope the improvement can bring the better quality of image. According to numerical simulation results, the wavelengths of incident light are 635nm and 445nm. If we use the method of single wavelength GS algorithm for 635nm, its DR(dynamic arrange) will be 13.22%. The result is good. But for 445nm, the DR is not good because its only 55.69%. The two results are quite different. To avoid this problem, so we use multiple wavelength GS algorithm. The numerical simulation results are 29.72% and 43.19%, respectively. The results are in an acceptable range. So we can prove the efficiency of this algorithm.

In recent years, the intensive development of liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) has been creating much clearer images and much more vivid colors showing on the displays. As reviewing several new technologies, one novel design on the backlight modules of color LCD displays is proposed in this work to enhance the color qualities of the images but still not substantially change too much of the existing configuration of the LCD displays. Based on measurements from the spectral analysis, we found the fact that the mismatch between the transmittance spectra of the color filters and the primary color lights from the backlight modules is the main excuse for poor color saturation. Most of all, the transmittance spectra of the blue color filters and the green color filters have a big overlap band such that the blue light from the backlight module can leak via the green color filters and the green light via the blue ones. Applying the time sharing concept, one novel categorizing method for color sequential multiplexing is proposed to effectively enhance the color gamut of the LCD displays. In our practical implementation, the color gamut has been greatly increased by almost 20%.

A RGB-color-mixing device has been studied. To achieve full-range color-mixing and color image generation¸ the use of three basic colors, selectively modulated in three separated intensity modulators, is mandatory. A three-branch optical waveguide , use two Y junction to form a single output is designed and fabricated. The waveguide is fabricated by firstly deposited a 8um thick buffer with TEOS, and then deposited the core layer doped with TMP to modified its index. After deposition and lithography of Cr mask the core layer is then plasma etched. The sidewall roughness and vertical profile of the waveguide are the two key factors for optical performance of the waveguide. We compared the etching characteristic between ICP and RIE and studied the residual stress and the influence of RTA process on the deposited waveguide structure. The fabricated device is tested and shows successfully performing the mixing of light although the loss is still large due to the sidewall roughness resulted from dry etching of the waveguide.

ABSTRACT Due to the evaluation of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) technologies, their performance in both luminance and color saturation are pushed further to the edge. This leads to their applications in Backlight Units (BLUs) designs. However, LEDs are point light sources. How to convert point light sources into a surface light source has become one of the most important issues in the BLU industry. For direct-type LED BLUs, R, G, B color mixing has become a topic of interest because of the problem of non-uniformity of color. The problem is further complicated by incorporating the scattering effect of diffuser plates in direct-type LED BLUs designs. This study is aimed to resolve this problem by a well-performed optical model for diffuser plates programming in ASAP. LEDs are considered by most to be monochromatic light sources. However, a commercial LED exhibits multichromatic characteristic. As known, the hazing effect of a diffuser plate is related to the wavelength of the incident light. Therefore, the wavelength effect as well as other effects, such as the diameters of scatters, the concentration of scatters, the relative refractive indices, and the thickness of a diffuser plate, etc., all play a part in color mixing. In this study, all above effects on LED coloring mixing are investigated thoroughly. The arrangements of LEDs and the distance between a diffuser plate and LEDs all contributing to the non-uniformity of color, in addition to the effects of diffuser plate, are also under investigation. A surface light source with uniform luminance and color is achieved by using a optimal combination of the above parameters.

In the case that LED light source gradually replaces traditional light source, the color temperature is arousing attention from industry. We can explore the relationships between color temperature and comfort range by analyzing the color temperature in physiological and psychological attributes. Then, apply it to different circumstances and purposes. We can see lots of LED applications for color of lighting today. The main goal in the thesis is to research on the method of LED color mixing. Through the given single LED package specifications, including luminous flux and chromaticity coordinate, then develop an algorithm of different specifications for LED color mixing. Afterwards, put the mixing number respectively into calculation to get the mixed chromaticity coordinate. Then use the formula of chromaticity coordinate transforming into color temperature to get the final mixing color temperature. Also, we can get the respective mixing number by putting the mixing parameters into algorithm of two and three specifications for LED color mixing. It is very helpful for LED applications of color temperature in solid-state lighting. In this essay, use the experiments of LED street lighting arrays and FRED optical simulation software respectively to verify the algorithm for LED color mixing. About the experiments of LED street lighting arrays, this part is to mix into low color temperature(3000K~4000K) and middle color temperature(4000K~5000K)by mixing numbers of 88,90,112,135.It is Measured by the Luminous Intensity Distribution Instrument assigned from CNS15233 of Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs. It turns out two trends: the more the mixing number is, the more the inaccuracy is. And, the higher the mixing color temperature is, the smaller the inaccuracy is. Besides, both of the inaccuracies are below the standard of 4%. Through the experiment and simulation, we can get the conclusion that LED of low color temperature (P2N) arranged in the middle resulted in smaller inaccuracy. In the end, combine the algorithm for LED color mixing and PWM dimmer controlling to propose a new method of LED color mixing.

A simple method that controlling color mixing of red, green, and blue (RGB) LEDs based on photometry theory is presented. Controlling color mixing of RGB LEDs using pulse width modulation (PWM). It can achieve color mixing of RGB LEDs by PWM control circuit by sending duty cycle signal to LED drivers, respectively. From the experimental results, it is evident that the chromaticity coordinate variations Δuv of RGB LEDs are less than 0.0071, 0.0105, and 0.0110, respectively. The experimental data and the theory values are in good correspondence for the experimental setup at constant illuminance. However, the method using PWM to control color mixing of RGB LEDs has some merits, e.g. wide color gamut, simple configuration, low cost, real-time change, etc.

In this thesis, we investigate the generation of (355nm) light by the fundamental output of the in Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (λ=1064nm) and its second harmonic (λ=532nm) in argon. The emphasis is on the influence of relative phases and intensities of the 2-color light. Based on our simulation of the 3rd harmonic of the Nd:YAG laser, the intensity of the 355nm light will oscillate periodically with the relative phases of the two-frequency driving electric fields. The periodic modulation of the 3rd-order harmonic can be attributed to the interference of third-harmonic signals generated from a direct THG channel (3ω = ω + ω + ω) and four-wave mixing (FWM) channel (3ω = 2ω + 2ω − ω). Our experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical simulation. In addition, the dependence of the intensity of the 2-color exciting light and the gas pressure dependence of the 3rd-order harmonic signal are also presented. It was found out that the 3rd harmonic output exhibits saturation behavior as the intensity of the second harmonic reaches 7.6×1012 W/cm2. A square-law dependence on gas pressure is also in agreement with the prediction of the theory.

It was well known that white light light emitting diodes (LEDs) will lead the way to green (i.e., environmental protection) illuminant age in the near future. The thesis experiments demonstrates color-mixing and theoretical design of large-area, high-power white-light LEDs. Regarding the color-mixing experiments, a 3W blue LED is obtainable by mixing different yellow phosphors with a white light LED. The candidate phosphor could be yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG), terbium aluminum garnet (TAG), or Silicate. According to the experimental data and measured spectra, we find that YAG in LED has better photometric efficiency of 29.03 lm/W under the same condition while TAG in LED has a better color rendering index of 83 or even large. Although the photometric efficiency of Silicate is as good as that of TAG, its color rendering index is only 70 as TAG. Regarding the color temperature issue, YAG integrated Silicate is suitable to obtain the cool white light of 6000 K, while TAG integrated Silicate can produce the warm white light of 3000 K. So, it is important to select appropriate phosphors for color-mixing of white light LEDs to reach the best effect. The optic software TracePro is used to optimize design the LEDs. The light source is established by using a 3W white light LEDs. A spot tube is added into it to improve its light-focus performance. Even the size of LED module is controlled under 40 mm in height and 15 mm in radius, the directional half angle of LEDs could decrease from 90 degrees to 60 degrees. When a focus len is designed and combined with the spot tube, the directional half angle is further reduced to 25 degree and the maximal emitting power is 2.5 times improvement.

The lighting parameters of metric function include Color Quality Scale, Luminous Efficacy and Luminous Efficiency. Under a designated correlated color temperature and lighting parameters condition, we searched for the global maximum solution of the metric function and found out the available spectrum distribution. Traditional light source for bio-medicine investigation is xenon lamp which has broadband spectrum and the relative intensity of each wavelength is consistent. Due to the lifetime is short and energy-consuming of the xenon lamp, this study used color mixing from multi-wavelength light emitting diodes (LEDs) to replace the xenon lamp as a light source since the LEDs have variable wavelength from UV to IR, long lifetime, and low energy, consumption. The light interference from LEDs may be destroyed through the light transmission, reflection and scattering at each optical components. Finally, a white light source with broadband spectrum and nearly light intensity was successfully built.

In this study, it is assumed that spectral model can be used to predict the dot area of ink jet printing. A grating-type multi-spectral imaging instrument is used to analyze the spectral data of ink jet output. The spectral reflectance values from 390nm to 730nm in 10nm increment are sampled and then analyzed through principal component analysis (PCA). The spectral absorptions of color ramps for each primary color (C, M, Y and K) are used to derive the virtual spectral primary from the first component in the PCA. Regression analysis is used to find out the scaling factor and to reconstruct the spectral reflectance of each color ramp according to the spectral primary respectively. Color differences are computed to judge the goodness of the reconstruction. In the end, dot area for each color ramp is calculated by the ratio of scaling factor in each ramp to the 100% tint. The results indicate that it is possible to estimate the dot area by this proposed method. Furthermore, the second component can be influenced by the fluorescent characteristics in the material, which deserves some attention as well.

In this study, we have demonstrated that a Three-band LED in which the phosphorescence from red- and green- phosphors are mixed with a blue LED is an effective way to generate white color with a high color-rendering-index. However, in previous studies, it has been shown that the color performance is not stable at various drive currents in this type of structure. This problem is believed to result from a low extraction efficiency of the red phosphorescence. In the present study, we have demonstrated the phosphorescence extraction can be improved effectively in a three-band white LED by using a new phosphor configuration, “Multi-Layer Remote Phosphor”. This novel phosphor configuration is found to be particularly useful for improving the extraction of red phosphorescence. For the white light applications, our study further shows that an improvement of the luminous efficiency by about 95%, using a “Multi-Layer Remote Phosphor” configuration in three-band LEDs as compared with those found in a traditional “Proximate Phosphors” configuration. In these studies, the correlated color temperatures are maintained between 3800K and 5900K. In the color stability, the color differences in a “Multi-Layer Remote Phosphor” configuration are measured to be about 0.006 when the operating currents varies from 50 mA to 400 mA.; a reduction by a factor of 5 as compared with that found in the traditional phosphor packaging configuration for a three-band white LEDs.

The stability of manufacture process depends on the magnetic force and polarity of magnetic pad regarding the shielding mask during the evaporation process in fabricating the OLED devices. In this thesis, first of all, we will discuss the relative properties using the mass-production equipments then calculated and monitoring through the SPC chart or the fundamental quality-analysis; secondly, the influence on process yield against the magnetic force and polarity of magnetic pad regarding the shadow mask will also be investigated in the research. Finally, we will build up an appropriate operation process on gap tuning and define the gap range of the assembly-mechanism. In the end, the optimization on the arrangement, distribution and the strength of the magnetic force should be clarified in this work. Nowadays, the LED technology is mature. Oversupply and new low-cost technology will definitely impact on the price. Compared with the high price of the ultraviolet light emitting diodes, the latter attracts more companies to invest.I focused on the ultraviolet light emitting diodes package and color mixing as well as the bacteria sterilizing application. The function of the LED package provides essential assistance on electricity, light, and heat. It also requires good heat dissipation and light extraction efficiency, which is the main part of this study. Most of the light emitting diodes package uses epoxy, which is a way to cut off the air efficiently and protect chips. However, epoxy is a material of high polymer, and it can’t resist ultraviolet, and it has worse heat resistance. In this study, I took advantage of the SOG, which has a characteristic of better heat resistance, combining with general epoxy, and as a result improved the problem of luminous decay caused by epoxy deterioration after long time of use. At present, the ultraviolet light emitting diodes has worse luminous efficiency. With the method mentioned above, I used the property of decreasing refraction index between the SOG and the epoxy to make luminous flux obviously increase. It makes this package method more useful. After improving the UV-LED package, the color mixing of UV-LED becomes more feasible. This coloring method has the highest CRI. At last, I combined the UV-LED and the Nano photocatalyst to eliminate formaldehyde with different current.

Color teaching is an important part in vision art education. Good capability of color mixing identification is foundation of color recognition and application. This study used colors 12, 24, and 48 as variables and a self-designed instrument to investigate the capability of color mixing identification for the sixth grade students. It aimed to find out the difference among students in the capability of color mixing identification. The conclusion is stated as follows: 1. The design of this study connected to the database indeed observed the students’ color mixing identification process. Therefore, it was able to analyze the performance of the students’ color mixing identification. 2. In the beginning, the students had better identification in yellowish blue, and worse identification in red yellow. 3. The students were very satisfied with this system. Nearly half the students agreed that the increase of difficulty in the identification elicited the challenge, made the material worth learning, and facilitated further learning, compared with traditional learning method. 4. Through the connection with the database, the computer simulation of color mixing identification indeed promoted the students’ capability in identifying colors. From the students’ operating the instrument, answering the questions, to the increase of the degree of difficulty, the operation data all showed how the students learned. 5. “The Computer Simulation of Color Mixing Identification Website” set up in this study applied the concept of computer-assisted instruction to reduce teachers’ and students’ time for preparing instruments and to help the color mixing identification learning. 6. The website of this study offered color mixing materials to guide the students’ learning. Therefore, the students could do it themselves at home by logging on to the Internet and evaluate the effectiveness of their learning. Based on the conclusion of this study, three suggestions are given for future research: 1. Due to time, manpower, and funds limitation, this study mainly focused on two classes of grade six students. The future researchers can apply simulation materials to investigate different grades of students. 2. To collect data needed, the advanced level of this study contained 48 colors for questions. However, it put pressure on students who operated slowly, and it influenced their performances. Thus how many is the adequate number of questions for evaluating the capability of color mixing identification remains to be studied. 3. This study showed that female students had better capability of color mixing identification than the male students. However, what were the factors that influenced this result? Was it the innate nature or the strategies they applied that caused this result? This question is worth the future researchers’ intention.
