Abstract:
We analyze a problem of formalization a non-repeated decision-making in entrepreneurship when there are exist alternatives with negative outcomes, or losses, one among which does not have dangerous consequences. We consider a problem of modelling the subset of alternatives as variants of risks combinations, in particular, the choice of an optimal variant of the alternative. The proposed model may be exploited for formal justification of the alternative choice during the early stages of non-repeated.

Abstract:
The paper discusses fixed units, raging from non-idiomatic phraseological units to idioms, naming death in Polish and Italian. Two corpora of word combinations have been excerpted from lexicographic works in order to conduct the analysis covering the following aspect: motivation, stylistics, axiology, semantics with a special focus on specifying function of the units, equivalence. The stylistics of the units vary greatly, since their functions range from elevation of the death to its depreciating, which results from the fact that word combinations perform a variety of psychological functions. The vast majority of the word combinatio ns excerpted appear in both languages, since either they are of Christian, especially biblical, or mythological origins. Other units belonging to the group are those reflecting common observations of the process of dying as well as the funeral culture. Therefore, the idioms belonging to the group are word combinations of a high degree of translatability. In many cases such idioms appear not only in Polish and Italian, but in other languages as well,, since they are of international character. However, there are units appearing only in one of the languages, i.e. either Polish or Italian. Some of them are products of metaphorical thinking specific to the nation, others base on word play. Moreover, certain idioms have a cultural motivation of national character, for instance they refer to the element of reality important only in a given culture or the key component is a proper name of national importance.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was analyse by means of polar coordinate analysis the efficacy of the behaviors shown during offensive combinative game in elite male and female handball in Spain. Ten teams belonging to the ASOBAL League were observed in the male category and to the Queen's Cup in the female category. An ad hoc observational tool of 12 criteria and 62 categories with a Nomothetic/Punctual/Multidimensional observational design was used. The unit of analysis was the positional attack. Four focal behaviours were selected: simple collective tactical means, combination of tactical means, transformations and advantageous launchs. An analysis of polar coordinates was carried out with the HOISAN software, considering the modules ≥1.96 to be significant. The results showed differences in the flow of behaviors between the male and female game. The female category with accentuated actions in the right zone of the field. The most consistent results coincide with the first forty minutes of play and with the use of simple collective tactical means and combinations. In the male category, good tactical performance was evident throughout the game. The combination of the collective tactical means showed a direct relation with the victory. In both categories the transformation of the systems induces the completions in forced launchs. The differences suggest to intervene in the preparation of both categories with a specific orientation towards the improvements in the performance the combinative positional game.

Abstract:
It is well recognized today that anticancer drugs often are most effective when used in combination. However, the establishment of chemotherapy as key modality in clinical oncology began with sporadic discoveries of chemicals that showed antiproliferative properties and which as a first attempt were used as single agents. In this review we describe the development of chemotherapy from its origins as a single drug treatment with cytotoxic agents to polydrug therapy that includes targeted drugs. We discuss the limitations of the first chemotherapeutic drugs as a motivation for the establishment of combined drug treatment as standard practice in spite of concerns about frequent severe, dose limiting toxicities. Next, we introduce the development of targeted treatment as a concept for advancement within the broader field of small-molecule drug combination therapy in cancer and its accelerating progress that was boosted by recent scientific and technological progresses. Finally, we describe an alternative strategy of drug combinations using drug-conjugates for selective delivery of cytotoxic drugs to tumor cells that potentiates future improvement of drug combinations in cancer treatment. Overall, in this review we outline the development of chemotherapy from a pharmacological perspective, from its early stages to modern concepts of using targeted therapies for combinational treatment.

Abstract:
In this work a new strategy for combination of adaptive filters is introduced and studied. Inspired by incremental schemes and cooperative adaptive filtering, the standard convex combination of parallel-independent filters is rearranged into a series-cooperative configuration, while preserving computational complexity. Two new algorithms are derived employing Recursive Least-Squares (RLS) and Least-Mean-Squares (LMS) algorithms as the component filters. In order to assess the performance of the incremental structure, tracking and steady-state mean-square analysis is derived. The analysis is carried out assuming the combiners are fixed, so that the universality of the new structure may be studied decoupled from the supervisor\'s dynamics. The resulting analytical model shows good agreement with simulation results.

Abstract:
Mobile robots rely on sensor data to have a representation of their environment. However, the sensors usually provide incomplete, inconsistent or inaccurate information. Sensor fusion has been successfully employed to enhance the accuracy of sensor measures. This work proposes and investigates the use of artificial intelligence techniques for sensor fusion. Its main goal is to improve the accuracy and reliability of a distance between a robot and an object in its work environment using measures obtained from different sensors. Several machine learning algorithms are investigated to fuse the sensors data. The best model generated with each algorithm are called estimator. It is shown that the employment of the estimators based on artificial intelligence can improve significantly the performance achieved by each sensor alone. The machine learning algorithms employed have different characteristics, causing the estimators to have different behaviour in different situations. Aiming to achieve more accurate and reliable behavior, the estimators are combined in committees. The results obtained suggest that this combination can improve the reliability and accuracy of the distance measures by the individual sensors and estimators used for sensor fusion.

Abstract:
The hypothesis quality induced by current machine learning algorithms depends mainly on the quantity and quality of features and examples used in the training phase. Frequently, hypothesis with low precision are obtained in experiments using large databases with a large number of irrelevant features. Thus, one active research area in machine learning is to investigate techniques able to extend the capacity of machine learning algorithms to process a large number of examples, features and classes. To learn concepts from large databases using machine learning algorithms, two approaches can be used. The first approach is based on a selection of relevant features and examples, and the second one is the ensemble approach. An ensemble is a set of classifiers whose individual decisions are combined in some way to classify a new case. Although ensembles classify new examples better than each individual classifier, they behave like black-boxes, since they do not offer any explanation to the user about their classification. The purpose of this work is to consider a form of symbolic classifiers combination to work with large databases. Given a large database, it is equally divided randomly in small databases. These small databases are supplied to one or more symbolic machine learning algorithms. After that, the rules from the resulting classifiers are combined into one classifier. To analise the viability of this proposal, was implemented a system in logic programming language Prolog, called RuleSystem. This system has two purposes; the first one, implemented by the Rule Analises Module, is to evaluate rules induced by symbolic machine learning algorithms; the second one, implemented by the Combination and Explanation Module, is to evaluate several forms of combining symbolic classifiers as well as to explain ensembled classification of new examples. Both principal modules constitute the Rule System. This work describes ensemble construction methods and combination of classifiers methods found in the literature; the project and documentation of RuleSystem; the methodology developed to document the RuleSystem; and the implementation of the Combination and Explanation Module. Two different case studies using the Combination and Explanation Module are described. The first case study uses an artificial database. Through the use of this artificial database, it was possible to improve several of the heuristics used by the the Combination and Explanation Module. A real database was used in the second case study.

The Pardo River Basin provides a good representation of the situation of the region, where forest fragmentation is a result of the haphazard process of the land use and occupation. The aim of this study was to define the priority areas to facilitate connectivity between forest fragments in order to forest restoration. Multicriteria approach with Weighted Linear Combination was used for combination of factors (landscape features). To establish the factors, their weights compensation (expressing the relative importance of factors in decision making) and the restrictions (restrictive category of characteristics) it was used to Participatory Technical and Analytic Hierarchy Process. The selected factors were: proximity of fragments of larger nuclear area, proximity to forest area, proximity to water, distance to urban centers; soil erodibility, and slope. The result obtained was a map of priority areas, with levels of priority represented on a continuous way, from 0 to 255. To facilitate the visualization and the analysis of results, the map was reclassified, with only five levels of priority. It was concluded, from the results, that the Multicriteria Evaluation ,in a Geographical Information Systems (GIS), is appropriate to the mapping of priority areas for forest restoration in river basins, the method of Weighted Linear Combination is flexible, easy to be implement, and allows the interaction of knowledge (researchers, analysts) and landscape features, determining the robustness of the solution for decision making; multicriteria analysis, based on Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), is essential in evaluating the factors, it uses a pair wise comparison between factors to determine the relative importance of each one, reducing subjectivity and subsidizing the creation of better scenarios for the decision maker; and the map of adequacy, for forest recovery River Basin Pardo-SP... Abstract:
In the professional sphere as well as in the academy, business combinations require accountants, managers, economists, statisticians, lawyers and financiers due to the complexity and the high figures involved. However, relevant regulatory gap related to the recognition of eventual goodwill generated by transaction inside an economic group in the Individual Financial Statements provides thorny turmoil. In Brazil interpretations and even regulations have conflicted over the last few years. Further there is no international agreement regarding this issue. The question basically rests on the analogy of IFRS 3, CPC 15 in Brazil (addressed for business combination between third parties and Consolidated Statement). Both here and there, for different reasons, three possibilities for the Intragroup Goodwill are discussed: always recognize it, never recognize it, or the acclaimed \"it depends\". This theoretical and interdisciplinary study made use of theory and doctrine from Corporate Law and Accounting. It was also supported by economic theories, elements from General Theory of Civil Law and Obligation Law, as well as the Brazilian and international legislative standards. In the analysis of these 3 views, through this accounting and legal perspective, we sought to deepen the concepts of Goodwill and Economic Groups, guided by the structuring parameters of the IFRS. As a result, the normative research concluded in favour of \"it depends\". The application of the analogy, when legitimacy of intragroup goodwill is verified, is established not on the simple check of stock control, but through the parties\' independence. In most cases, the controlling stock holder ends up directing the transaction. Nevertheless, mismatch can occur between the stock control and the effective management control (transaction\'s direction) resulting in cases of independent parties inside the group and, on the other hand, dependent parties in external relations.

Abstract:
Malaria is one of the priorities of global research in the area of vaccine development. In spite of the continuing and growing research activity in this area, there is still no vaccine to prevent infection by Plasmodium spp. Due to the complex life cycle of this agent, an effective vaccine formulation to elicit protective immune responses should contain a combination of immunodominant regions of parasite antigens. Therefore, this study aimed at characterizing the humoral immune response induced by experimental immunization of mice with Apical Membrane Antigen 1 (AMA-1), C-terminal region of the Merozoite Surface Protein 1 and Merozoite Surface Protein 3β of P. vivax, provided either alone or as a combination. The recombinant proteins were purified by affinity and ion exchange chromatography, subsequently were analyzed by RP-HPLC to confirm the high purity of the samples. The immunogenicity of these formulations was evaluated in BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice, administered in the presence of two different adjuvants, Quil A or Poly I:C. The humoral immune response was measured by IgG antibody titers using ELISA. C57BL/6 mice immunized with the recombinant antigen combination in the presence of Quil A or Poly I:C adjuvants showed high antibody titers (log10>4) similar to mice inject with a single antigen alone. In contrast, BALB/c mice immunized with the recombinant antigen combination had lower antibody titers to MSP119 or to MSP119 and AMA-1 when administered in the presence of Quil A or Poly I:C adjuvants, respectively. Interestingly, we observed a significant increased in the antibody titers of the C57BL/6 mice receiving the combination of antigens against MSP3β protein in Poly I:C. The ratio between the IgG subclasses profile showed a mixed Th1/Th2 response in all groups tested. Specific antibodies were still high six months after the last immunizing dose indicating a long lived immune response. Together, our data show that the combination of antigens may be an effective strategy for immunization against malaria.

Abstract:
Onze novos sinônimos foram descobertos: Heliura cadroe Schaus (= Acridopsis lucis Butler), Pseudaethria cessogae Schaus (= Heliura cosmosomodes Dognin), Pseudohyaleucerea manicorensis Rego Barros & Machado (= Heliura quadriflavata Kaye), Delphyre nilammon Schaus (= Eucereon inconspícua Kaye), Heliura klagesi meridionalis Rothschild, Delphyre lemoulti Draudt (= Neacerea rhodocrypta Druce), Automolis oviplaga Rothschild (= Delphyre subapicalis Dukinfield-Jones), Theages quadricolor Walker, Eucereon quadricolor boreale Rothschild e E. quadricolor meridionale Rothschild (estes três = Chelonia punctata Guérin-Meneville) e Eucereon tigrisoma Rothschild (= Galethalea pica Walker). A combinação nova Heliura elongata (Schaus), comb. nov.
The genus Heliura Butler had 53 names and 40 valid species at the beginning of this study. A cladistic analysis was performed to test its monophyletism, which results showed that it is polyphyletic, as well as all other genera included in the analysis and represented by more than one taxon. Heliura, as defined here, comprises 66 species in its sensu stricto, 16 of which are new, and 76 in its sensu lato (which includes incertae sedis species). This arrangement counts with two new synonyms for Heliura, Ptychotricos Schaus, sin. nov. e Mesocerea Hampson, sin. nov. All the species belonging to Heliura in the sense here defended were redescribed, illustrated and mapped. The other ones were rearranged according to the results obtained at the analysis. Among those successfully placed in genera already described are Eucereon baleris Dyar, comb. nov. and Pseudaethria cosmosomodes Dognin, comb. nov. Two new genera were created to place other species that do not belong in Heliura: Bus, gen. nov. and Dusi, gen. nov. However, it was not possible to place confidently all the species that do not belong in Heliura, and those which phylogenetic positions remain a mistery were given the status of incertae sedis. Eleven new synonyms were discovered: Heliura cadroe Schaus (= Acridopsis lucis Butler), Pseudohyaleucerea manicorensis Rego Barros & Machado (= Heliura quadriflavata Kaye), Delphyre nilammon Schaus (= Eucereon inconspicua Kaye), Heliura klagesi meridionalis Rothschild, Delphyre lemoulti Draudt (= Neacerea rhodocrypta Druce), Automolis oviplaga Rothschild (= Delphyre subapicalis Dukinfield-Jones), Theages quadricolor Walker, Eucereon quadricolor boreale Rothschild e E. quadricolor meridionale Rothschild (these three = Chelonia punctata Guérin-Meneville), and Eucereon tigrisoma Rothschild (= Galethalea pica Walker). Two other species here treated in Heliura were declared species inquirendae: H. Pierus Cramer and H. Dares Cramer. Heliura distinct Rothschild received a new name, Heliura rothschildi, nom. nov., because Teucer distinct Rothschild, which is one year older, is now also part of Heliura. At last, notes on Delphyre Walker and Eucereon Hübner are provided, with the revalidation of some of its synonyms (Neacerea Druce, gen. revalid. and Erithales Poey, gen. revalid.), plus the creation of a new genus, Aus, gen. nov., for some species previously placed in Delphyre. The identities of Eucereon archias and E. Punctatum are discussed based on new evidence. New combinations are proposed in Galethalea Butler, Pseudohyaleucerea Rego Barros & Machado, Diabaena Felder, Pseudopharus Hampson, Eucereon Hübner, and

Abstract:
The Safety-Related structures of the U.S. EPR™ Standard Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) predominantly consist of reinforced concrete shear walls and slabs; thus they are typically modeled using shell finite elements and analyzed and designed for a large number of applicable load combinations. This paper presents a load combination reduction methodology that has been specifically developed for and applied to these types of structural elements in order to methodically reduce the full set of applicable load combinations to a manageable sub-set of load combinations, termed “controlling load combinations” for structural design purposes. Load combination reduction criteria involve code-specified section capacities (i.e., allowables), structural demands (i.e., forces and moments), and demand-to-capacity ratios (DCR) as complemented by reinforcing ratios. For a particular Safety-Related structure or portions thereof, the controlling load combination produces the most demanding forces and moments relative to design allowables in accordance with applicable codes and standards for reinforced concrete design, resulting in the highest DCR among all applicable load combinations. To facilitate the load combination reduction process, portions or segments of a particular Safety-Related structure that are in close proximity and thereby most likely to be designed for a common reinforcement pattern are identified and grouped as a single design component and termed an “evaluation level component.” It is demonstrated that the load combination reduction methodology developed herein is instrumental in narrowing down numerous applicable load combinations to a sub-set of controlling load combinations for the U.S. EPR™ Nuclear Island Safety-Related structures.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper presents new insight into the robust stability analysis of families of matrices described by convex combinations of Hurwitz stable 'vertex' matrices. Significant new insight is provided that removes many misconceptions that currently prevail in this problem formulation. In this connection, careful distinction is made between 'Structured' and 'Unstructured' convex combinations of matrices. The convex combinations arising from an uncertain matrix with interval parameters is labeled as 'structured' convex combinations whereas the convex combinations of 'user specified' Hurwitz stable vertex matrices are labeled as 'unstructured' convex combinations. It is clearly shown that the convex combination property in matrix case is dictated more by the nature of the 'vertex' matrices rather than by simply assigning values to the coefficients of the combination. From this analysis, it is clearly established that 'structured' and 'unstructured' convex combinations are two entirely different problem formulations and one is not a special case of the other as it is currently believed. Thus even the solution algorithms for checking the stability of these matrix families are different. After establishing this distinction, this paper then concentrates on the 'unstructured' case and provides a 'vertex solution' to a specific three vertex convex combination problem. The algorithm is illustrated with several examples. This contribution suggests that there is still considerable research needed to appreciably enhance the knowledge base in the important area of robust stability analysis of matrix families which arise in various applications.
