Abstract This work presents a comparison of the effect generated by a mixed culture of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) isolated from a natural estuary in western Venezuela, on the cathodic protection (CP) of carbon steel under simulated blisters. The laboratory study was carried out simultaneously measuring attack morphology, polarized potential, pH, and sessile growth, inside a simulated blister in a special cell arrangement, using two types of coatings: one 100% solids epoxy, and the other one, a tape type, which consists of the combination of a geo mesh-polypropylene textile and tarred rubb

Quality assurance monitoring and material characterization is of great importance in the pharmaceutical industry. If the tablet coating and/or core are defective, the desired dose delivery and bioavailability can be compromised. Tablet coatings serve a wide variety of purposes such as regulating controlled release of active ingredients in the body, contributing to the bioavailability of a particular drug or combination of drugs, during certain times and locations within the body, protecting the stomach from high concentrations of active ingredients, extending the shelf life by protecting the i

The insecticidal efficacy and safety of a new combination drug in tablet formulation based on derivatives of spinosyns, pyrimidines and pyrazinoisoquinoline against aphanipterosis in cats was studied. The study was carried out on 16 animals with spontaneous infestation with fleas Ctenocephalides spp. which were divided into two groups: experimental and control groups of 8 animals each. The animals of the experimental group were given the drug individually, once, orally, on the root of the tongue immediately after feeding in the minimum dose per 1 kg of animal weight (by active ingredients): 50

The purpose of this supplementary report is to ensure that the Registry provides updated 10, 15 and 20 year data on the comparative performance of all prostheses including those that are no longer used. Analyses presented in the main report are now limited to prostheses that were still used in 2022. Surgeons at the Annual Report Workshop highlighted that there was ongoing interest in the comparative performance of all devices reported to the Registry and recommended its inclusion as a supplementary report. The global COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented disruptions to the higher education landscape worldwide. Widespread school closures, driven by the imperative of social distancing to combat the virus's spread forced a rapid and dramatic shift from traditional face-to-face instruction to online learning and teaching environments in numerous countries. Recent research has highlighted the formidable challenges lower- and middle-income countries face, particularly those with weaker ICT infrastructures and less technology-ready teachers and students, when adapting to these new tech-enhanced teach

Full text
Abstract:
The complexity of reasoning in fuzzy description logics (DLs) over finite lattices usually does not exceed that of the underlying classical DLs. This has recently been shown for the logics between L-IALC and L-ISCHI using a combination of automata- and tableau-based techniques. In this report, this approach is modified to deal with nominals and constants in L-ISCHOI. Reasoning w.r.t. general TBoxes is ExpTime-complete, and PSpace-completeness is shown under the restriction to acyclic terminologies in two sublogics. The latter implies two previously unknown complexity results for the classical

Since 2013, the formal structure of global corporate tax policymaking at the OECD has changed. Decisions are no longer made by 37 OECD members, but by 137 countries from all regions and levels of development through the ‘Inclusive Framework’ (IF). Official documentation emphasises that all countries participate on an ‘equal footing’, but some participants and observers have emphasised that developing countries in particular face practical obstacles that lead to unequal participation in practice. In this paper, we assess these claims, drawing primarily on 48 interviews with negotiators, policym

Pipeline engines fitted with modem automation and control systems serve as ideal candidates for On Board Diagnostics (OBD) and Diagnostic Monitoring (DM). OBD is very effective for real time performance monitoring, pollution prevention and safety monitoring in the engine room. Diagnostic Monitoring (DM) extends the capabilities of OBD by using extensive historical data to characterize unit specific characteristics thereby dealing with engines as individuals. The work to date has focused on the development of a methodology to support real-time multiparameter analysis and crosscheck of engine da

Original objectives: Dipping of table grapes in ethanol was determined to be an effective measure to control postharvest gray mold infection caused by Botrytis cinerea. Our objectives were to study the effects of ethanol on B.cinerea and table grapes and to conduct research that will facilitate the implementation of this treatment. Background: Botrytis cinerea is known as the major pathogen of table grapes in cold storage. To date, the only commercial technology to control it relied on sulfur dioxide (SO₂) implemented by either fumigation of storage facilities or from slow release generator pa
