Abstract:
This thesis asserts the importance of Dickensian comic modes. It engages with academic discourse and popular culture which between them have formulated a serious, socially engaged and psychologically dramatic Dickens in which comedy is muted. It examines the nature of Dickens's comedy and his debt to traditions of comic writing. It attempts to construct an understanding of Dickens in which comic modes are as vital as the dramatic to our understanding of Dickens's methods, themes and purposes. It adopts an inclusive approach to methodology in recognition of the wide-ranging nature of Dickensian

We studied the values for the Higgs mass and string coupling for which the gravitational effect of an infinite cosmic string in the context of the Einstein theory is not only locally but also globally weak. We conclude this happens for strings formed at scales less or equal to the Planck one with Higgs mass being less or equal to the boson vectorial mass. Then we examined the metric of an isolated self-gravitating abelian-Higgs vortex in dilatonic gravity for arbitrary coupling of the vortex fields to the dilaton. We looked for solutio

Abstract:
We have developed a two-dimensional heliospheric model that includes galactic and anomalous cosmic rays as well as pickup ions. Cosmic rays are described via their number density in phase space, rather than pressure, as every preceding 2-D model has done. Cosmic-ray pressure is included in the total energy budget, allowing us to compute dynamical effects of the energetic particles on the solar wind. We include the magnetic field as well in order to consistently compute cosmic-ray diffusion coefficients. To accommodate' lower-energy cosmic rays with their short diffusion length, we implemented
