This paper describes a new model for understanding natural language commands given to autonomous systems that perform navigation and mobile manipulation in semi-structured environments. Previous approaches have used models with fixed structure to infer the likelihood of a sequence of actions given the environment and the command. In contrast, our framework, called Generalized Grounding Graphs, dynamically instantiates a probabilistic graphical model for a particular natural language command according to the command's hierarchical and compositional semantic structure. However, to accept a voice command from a live legal user, prior solutions cannot be combined directly due to two reasons. First, previous methods have introduced various sensing channels for the

Finding a provably correct subquadratic synchronization algorithm for many filesystem replicas is one of the main theoretical problems in operational transformation (OT) and conflict-free replicated data types (CRDT) frameworks. Based on the algebraic theory of filesystems, which incorporates non-commutative filesystem commands natively, we developed and built a proof-of-concept implementation of an algorithm suite which synchronizes an arbitrary number of replicas. The result is provably correct, and the synchronized system is created in linear space and time after an initial sorting phase. I

The nstagebinopt command finds a class of efficient “admissible” designs based on an optimality criterion using a systematic search procedure. Persons in authority are allowed to issue a command, which is binding for the addressee. In the case of failure to comply with the command, it may be qualified as an offense of disobeying the command of an official. This conference paper focuses on the characteristics of commands of official persons, their legal regulation and liability aspects of disobeying these commands. Often, the procedural defense of offenders consists in referring to the illegality of the official person‘s commands, which was therefore not obeyed by them. However, according to the view of the Constitutional Court, the a

Since its conception, Ginga-NCL supports live editing commands that allows broadcasters and their applications to change the behavior of NCL document presentations. This can be achieved via stream events inserted into the broadcast stream, or via Lua scripts in the same application. Recently, editing commands may be posted via apps running on smart devices in the home network. Considering this last mode, one may imagine a use case where smart devices can be used to change the behavior of Ginga-NCL apps including not only the command itself, but also new media content related to the command, li

A gantry cranes is generally modeled as a simple-pendulum with a point mass attached to the end of a massless rigid link. Numerous control systems have been developed to reduce payload oscillations in order to improve safety and positioning accuracy of crane operations. However, large-size payloads transforms the crane model from a simple-pendulum system to a double-pendulum system. Control systems that consider only one mode of oscillations of a double-pendulum may excite large oscillations in the other mode. In multi-degrees-of-freedom systems, command-shaping controllers designed for the fi

This report provides an implementation of the moveit-commander Python module to generate trajectories for custom six– and seven–degrees of freedom (DoF) arms. The moveit_setup_assistant package was used to modify an existing five-DoF OpenManipulator-X model to increase its range of motion. Specifically, additional joints were fabricated and mounted to the physical arm. Also, the Unified Robot Description Format files were modified to account for the additional joints. In order to optimize the solvers, many changes to the MOVEit configuration files were made. The changes documented in this repo

Managing wastes produced during contingency operations in United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM) locations has historically relied on local contract disposal or open-air burn pits, which have been shown to be harmful to the health of service members. Posture locations that can find alternative ways to manage waste, specifically through contracts with the host country’s waste services, can better protect the health and safety of the warfighter and the native landscapes. African waste systems are complex, decentralized systems with considerable regional variation. The lack of government-funded

Complex systems modelling is already implemented in critical policy areas such as climate change and health. It could also play an important role in the nuclear weapons sphere – by opening alternative pathways that may help mitigate risks of confrontation and escalation – but such modelling has yet to be fully embraced by policymakers in this community. By applying a complexity lens, policy- and decision-makers at all stages along the nuclear chain of command might better understand how their actions could have significant consequences for international security and peace.
